Hi Rob thanks for sharing your trip. Takes a die hard autoshitter to buy a non ulez compliant car while living in the zone, hats off to you. Looks a good car.

What's it like in the zone? Is there really as much camera damage as we hear?

Thanks, it's a great car.  Very much as described by @2316cc

Can't say I've paid much attention to the camera situation, but I did see one that'd been cut down and dumped by the road side recently.  Just 300 yards up the road from me.  It's still possible to spot older non-compliant cars in London, but they certainly have got thinner on the ground.  I've also noticed a few more historics when travelling around my manor, which is either just coincidence or some heroes have decided to do exemption properly and go 40+.

Nice. Obligatory 'that's a bit too far south for an Ovlov' comment.

It's also now too inside the ULEZ, but I can dodge the cameras around here for local trips and just pony up the rest of the time.  I'd forgotten how bloody marvellous these things are, so it's worth every penny I end up coughing up to TfL.

Seeing that photo makes me immediately want another one. 😢

Excellent to meet the estimable RobT earlier. I hope you have a successful journey home and that this particular slab of Swedish metal brings you great joy.

It's great, a proper old chunk of car.  Cheers m9.

    Reckomended seller, wud use again👍

The seats on the Azuma are rock solid. No usb is a fair trade off for some comfort IMO.

I did wonder about that, which led me to book the 225 instead.  Same reason why I try to avoid Thameslink trains where possible.  Or just end up standing instead.

Also, do people actually realise they're in a quiet coach?  Bloke behind (a Steven Smith from Grantham) is having a right old job taking out car insurance on the phone.  I wonder if he's on a collection mission too?  Either way just STFU plz.

Rob - have spotted this cracking Xedos on my manor a couple of times. I was surprised to note that it was a spanish too - I had incorrectly assumed they were two pedal only

Blimey that's tidy.  Paint I can only dream of, as mine's a definite 20 footer.

Manual ones do exist but I assume back in the day the autos were more common.

  6. Final lot for 2023, all of them in London bar the Audi below.

A shit photo but I'll include it anyway.  In Fulham near the Palace.  The bloke had his dog in the back, and why not!

Probably my best spot of the year, a 6.9.  Front suspension looked fucked.  Wonderful.

Yeah, if it wasn't an automatic I'd totally want dibs on it!

Well, the auto 'box threatens to go full bork every now and again by holding the gears and flashing the HOLD light on the dash.  Dodgy solenoid?  Either way I'll keep using it until it by becomes a bigger problem.  There's no pattern and it doesn't happen for months on end.

  8. Only two purchases for me this year (both In and Out) which must be some kind of record.  I end the year on three.

    In/Out

Fiat Marea.  Low millage ex-giffer car that drove really well.  Ticked a box and sold it to a bloke who wanted the world for £400.  I genuinely think I'm done with selling cheap cars to the masses.

    In/Out

Polo project that I bought off my postman.  It'd sat unused for two years and I thought I was on to a nice little earner, but nope.  I spent a few months doing some jobs, acquired a new MoT and then the head gasket went after a celebratory drive on the motorway.  Wasn't sure if I could be arsed fixing it but I took my time and got there in the end.  Sold via a classic auction at a loss.  But at least I got one road trip out of it as the auction house was 200 miles away.

    Remainers

Morris and Metro.  Both are runners, more or less, and I'm trying to use the Morris as often as possible over the winter.  I keep wondering whether to sell it and replace it with more historic chod, like a Saab 96 or something.

Xedos.  Still here on main car duties.  Future jobs are a pair of tyres and the exhaust centre section.  I keep patching it up but might have to bite the bullet before MoT time in March.  Not looking forward to that!  I keep bodging it with silicone sealant, and yes I don't care.  Does a better job than the paste shit.

  9. Thread resurrection time.

After 12 months in slumber on my parents' drive, this old heap will be my winter/ULEZ beater for local trips.

I collected it yesterday and fortunately the showers had stopped for the 20 minute drive home.  Good job as the wipers were inop.  But this morning they fixed themselves so that's a job off the list already.

Plans are to do some mild tinkering, like replacing the knackered door seals and do a proper radiator flush. A big job I undertook in early 2022 was a head rebuild.  Big to me anyway as I'd never removed a head before.  New stem seals were the initial reason for doing it as the smoke on start up was an embarrassment frankly.  That turned into a hardened valve seat conversion (with new valves obviously) and loads of other ancillary shit I've forgotten.  The upshot was it drove much better and hopefully it'll continue to do so.  Now I'll just crack on and use it as often as possible.

Don't think I've ever seen a W reg 126. Glorious pre-2001 plate font and original trims, too. And a brown interior. Absolute 100% class.

It was glorious.  I lingered for a while just taking it all in.  Parked on its own under an arch like it was 1981 again.
