Did the longest run in my driving career so far yesterday: Chelmsford-Exeter-Plymouth-Merthyr Tydfil (achievement unlocked: International Truck Driver). Here's the mighty Merc parked up for the night on a remote Welsh industrial estate after collecting a load of medical equipment bound for the States:

I did the return trip this morning in just under four and a half hours, leaving me a bit of time to do some local work.
I really like long distance work and don't mind nights out at all, as I'm single, I like my own company and I get paid £30 tax free per night out; I've done two this week
Fun fact:   Driving a truck over the nearly traffic-free Prince of Wales Bridge at 0500 just as the dawn is breaking while listening to the full length version of Autobahn by Kraftwerk is a pretty thrilling experience, or at least it was to me ^^

Shep Shepherd reacted to dollywobbler in Lancia Gamma Coupe - lie to me
The Lancia Gamma coupe was based on the running gear of the Volvo 262, but with the engine turning the other way and mounted in the glovebox. The bodywork was designed by Fidel Castro and smuggled out of Cuba by a group of spying ninja nuns from Italy. These same nuns also tried to sabotage the Japanese car industry by suggesting to Nissan that it should work with Alfa Romeo.
    Naturally, you should buy one.

    Buy one!
For me the Berlina has the edge in looks which is why I bought the saloon.
The Gamma Consortium has done a fantastic job of salvaging parts from scrap cars, looking at supply from Europe and even have things made including the "L cloth" that many Gammas have.
The power steering pump is powered from one of the cambelts and only really has a problem if the belt is old and sloppy.
It is 1970s technology and any competent mechanic with the right attitude can work on these successfully.
There will be issues and you will need a bit of patience understanding a Gamma, but you will get it sorted.

With being allowed to escape my home LA now, it made sense to go and play with the Oxford instead of fixing any of the other cars..
We arrived and set to work:

I fitted the battery from the Toledo - it has 670cca And had just had a 40mile drive to charge it.
The oil was good in the engine, it had some coolant and so the ignition was turned on. The SU pump fired to life and we got it running.
Not drove itself from its resting place - showing small* levels of leakage..

Engine oil on the left, gearbox oil in the middle, diff oil at the rear plus all the watery sputter out the exhaust at the front right.

Nevertheless it was out and about. One tyre needed blowing up (all need replaced) but it seemed to be ok.

It got a wash and tootled about a bit.

Check out the starting once it was warmed up..
She's keen! Better than the Toledo anyways.
We also had a sort out of parts, and I've made a list of bits I want to do before heading out on the road with it.
Just as I went to park it up, at least one brake has stuck on, so I will investigate that when over next.

Shep Shepherd reacted to Endfloat in Endfloat - My YouTube channel and my introduction
Hi folks! Firstly, thanks for having me! I found out about this forum through watching Hubnut videos, and I am a massive fan of his work. I am an enthusiast of the "everyman" car. The ones my dad had when I was growing up, and have a particular soft spot for Volkswagens with round headlights (lost interest in them after that) and classic British cars such as MGs, Minis, Austins (or Austi?) and Triumphs. I am currently restoring a purple 1974 MGB GT that's been sitting up since 1991, and my 1974 1303S Beetle with a 1915cc engine in the back is nearly finished having some bodywork done and an appearance change, My wife and I also have a 1987 VW T25 camper and a 1991 Mk2 Golf driver auto.
Now, about my channel, Endfloat. I won't lie. It is hugely inspired by Hubnut, as well as by Mustie1 and Aging Wheels. I watched a lot of these guys' videos and thought "I wonder could I do this?"
Well, here's a couple of links if I can be so bold?
Where it all started with the MG
My 1303 Beetle just before it went in for bodywork
The TDI engine swap I did on our T25

Thanks folks, and I look forward to perusing your fantastic forum!

Hey all, long time no collection thread from me (I bought the Saab 10 months ago now! Time flies!).
Let's take this opportunity to introduce a new member to the forum, @Saltyscotsman. He's been thinking about getting something shite for a while, and now is the time.
This is going to be one hell of an introduction, too.

A few days ago now, a Mitsubishi Galant was posted in the ebay thread by @Ghosty.  This one, to be precise.
It looked nice. 1990 H, in blue, with low miles and a very clean MOT history. However the last MOT (which was spotlessly clean) was in 2018.
The car is also located in Surrey. Both @Saltyscotsman and I are in the vicinity of Aberdeen.

The following happened on our small discord server:

Thus, we now have a car that hasn't had an MOT since 2018 sitting in Surrey, which needs to get back to Ellon, roughly 12 miles or so north of Aberdeen.
At this point, we contacted @worldofceri to get some figures.
Then, @rantingYoof bravely volunteered his driveway in the Northampton area, and his services in driving it to an MOT garage.

This means the plan so far is to get Ceri to transport it to Yoof's driveway then Yoof will take it to a garage while being wired money for any work it may or may not need. Then, Salt and I will likely get a flight to Birmingham, get picked up by Yoof, then drive the Galant north.
I'm providing assistance due to my previous experience in stupid collections and my diary being completely empty for the next couple of weeks.

Did I mention this is utterly, utterly stupid?
The last time I did the Northampton - Aberdeen run was in late 2015 in that Lexus LS400 after another friend (now living in Oregon since late 2016) bought it from @rantingYoof so at least it was a known car. I think @dome, @320touring, @dollywobbler and a few others also know that car. That was done overnight on empty motorways in a time of about 9 hours. This will be done with roughly 1/3rd of the power* in a totally unknown car during a global pandemic. WCPGW?!
*The carb-fed 1.8 in these Galants apparently makes about 85hp. So it'll be slower than either of my 1990s shitboxes. Fun times.

As a thread is useless without pictures:

    Nice, isn't it?
    Doesn't help my nerves, though.

The timescale so far is for Ceri to collect it on Wednesday the 21st, so no movement as of yet. This thread is just being put here to keep everything in one place.
Live updates will hopefully follow at the tail-end of the week!

Yes, wiper works, but when you operate the rear washer, the front washers come on. Because French. The plastic cover on the wiper can be pulled off and has clearly been messily glued back in place before...
It's hilariously French. The suspension adjusts itself when it feels like, even when you're nowhere near it. Occasionally the dials will start moving even when the key isn't in it.

Glad you’re enjoying the open roads. It’s not always like that haha. I remember before I got furloughed last year I took a unit back to Arclid 1 junction up the motorway. It was dead. Usually rammed with trucks and arseholes but it was empty. Loved it. Really really enjoyed it.

Nights out are great if you are somewhere quiet out in the sticks; not so much in a dingy industrial area where you’re sleeping with one eye open for fear of your curtains being slashed or diesel syphoned.
Maybe tramping would suit you @Shep Shepherd? I’d have liked to do it - maybe even European work -  but I already had a wife and kids by the time I started lorry driving.
If you haven’t already, download the Truckfly app. Great for finding places to stop that aren’t signposted, ie quiet laybys. I still use it now as I occasionally overnight in the car on longer trips.
And if you need somewhere to stop in the south west, let me know... I must have slept in every lay-by and services betweenTruro and Exeter in the two years I did a twice-weekly run down there!
