  1. Currently overnighting at a transport yard in Dewsbury, which was the closest (and cheapest) Snap parking to tomorrow's first drop at a place in Shipley. Nice and quiet, and there's a Sainsbury's next door ^^ I'd never heard of Brocklehurst before today. They sure do like Ivecos!
  2. Nice Cavalier Sportshatch. A Kent car, going by the registration. I wonder which dealer originally sold it?

    Pink

Some late examples of the Cortina 1600E were painted Light Orchid metallic, which looks the business. The colour was revived in the late 1970s for the Escort 'Capital' special edition.
  4. Japanese jazz fusion guitarist Yuji Toriyama's self titled 1983 album. I think that's a Chrysler K-Car of some sort, although it looks like an Isuzu Aska at first glance
  5. The Dukes of Hazzard was a big draw for me in the early to mid 1980s, due to the cars which featured in the series, which at the time I referred to as 'Yankie Jobs'. Also, I loved the characters, especially Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane and his dog Flash
  6. I saw that fine motorcar at the HubNut Social a few weeks ago. Makes The Volvo look concours
  7. Dagenhamtastic! I'm coming up for 20 years of owning The Volvo, which I bought off Peter Simpson of Practical Cla$$ics and Car Mechanics fame in December 2003. I hope to get it running and MOT'd in time to celebrate our 20th anniversary together
  8. Superb! I love Granadas, especially the mark 2, which is just 'right' in every respect
  9. At least three official ones; the Leader, the Meteor and the Digit, the latter being a series 1 equipped with a digital dashboard.
  10. My Actros would 'cry wolf' regularly, but it didn't shout at me when it did
  11. Sandwich!!! That was the very Invacar which used to scare me with its styling and engine note when I was a pup in the early 1980s 😮 Harnet Motor Carriage in Harnet Street was the 'upmarket' arm of the dodgy local Ford main dealer Malcolm Waite, which then and now has premises scattered all over the town. It was a Lancia dealer until the mid 1980s and has been for many years an extension of the Ford side of MW's business empire, although it dabbled in Volvo sales and servicing very briefly in the 1990s. The Empire aka the 'Flea Pit' is the town's small but perfectly formed cinema, which opened in the 1930s. It was used as a snooker hall for many years, as per the photo, but in the early 2000s it became a cinema once more
  12. Brilliant stuff, especially the DDR-era vehicles; the late unlamented Erich Honecker's CX 25 Prestige Turbo 2 looks incredible. I've wanted to go to Dresden for years, so when I do, I'll definitely pay the museum a visit
  13. Thanks for the kind words. I'm more than happy to impart my knowledge of old Volvos to fellow owners ^^ I really like the CF as it's easy to drive and has a well laid-out dashboard. I especially like the fact that due to the high cab (Space Cab?) it's got loads of overhead storage space and I'm able to stand up straight in it Pity about 'that' warning sound, though 😮
  14. I'm not sure what type it is, as the labels on it have had their print removed by carb cleaner 😄 I should be able to get a new replacement from eBay cheaply enough, as they're common to a lot of cars from the 1980s and 1990s. I had a go at cleaning the existing one, but I've not attempted to start the car since doing so several weeks ago, so I don't know if there's any improvement.
  15. Yes, but it's currently off the road sans MOT due to ongoing running issues which I have so far been unable to rectify. I suspect that the idle control valve has failed. I hope to get it back on the road in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of owning it in December
  16. Cheers! I took leave of the forum for various car and mental health reasons, but attending the HubNut Social today and meeting lots of lovely people and seeing lots of lovely cars convinced me to return. Incidentally, I was chatting with Mr. HubNut and others about the Mighty Dacia at the social I'm going to be all over the place in the aforementioned DAF, as my company covers a pretty wide base. I've only been as far as Cannock so far, but I'm off to the West Country on Monday. I'm hoping that I'll be going to Wales and Scotland in due course.
  17. My current wagon. I'm now tramping for a small general haulage company in West Thurrock, having finished with Woodland Group in July after nearly three years (between then and starting my current job, I suffered five weeks working for Uniserve, whose transport department couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery; just because a company has a fleet of brand new trucks, it doesn't mean that it's any good to work for). A definite step up from the knackered 17 plate Actros I used to drive ^^
