  1. Called into halfords for some car shampoo. They no longer sell own branded filters any more - they only had crossland.
  2. A bit steep for a project. My mate bought a moonraker blue example in the late 90's on a C plate. It was nippy - but nothing more. It had a bank of lights near the mirror that lit up according to boost. It also had a gearbox that sounded like a bacon slicer. Everytime I go into a deli and hear that sound I imagine there's a metro turbo next to the chorizo.
  3. I got the mercury in the summer of 1987 from WH Smith in Warrington. I then went and watched the living daylights. I still have it along with the vette and testarossa.
  4. The corgi boat is from the chopper squad set - it comes with a trailer and a jeep. I have the juniors jet ranger helicopter but not the bigger ones.
  5. A word of advice - my 2.5 senator dripped fuel even when the pipes and clips had been renewed. I, like various garages had used generic 8mm hose. I went to the vauxhall dealer and got some from them - theirs was 7.3 mm internal diameter, not 8. No more leaks.
  6. Currently camping in North Wales. We have invested in inflatable furniture. It takes some getting used to - we are all like whisper in live and let die.
  7. Went to Anglesey trsnsport museum. A few bits of chod - rover's, lotus carltons and military vehicles like the humber pig and saracen. This was my favourite though.
  8. Good job. Best wishes for your family.
  9. The most I have paid is £5k. I don't have lots of cash to spunk on a car. I do not like the feeling of being trapped by unnecessary debt. You never know what is round the corner - redundancy / ill health / hike in interest rates. My dad never had much money and had to make do and mend - he kept his cars going with very little - and this has rubbed off on me. Having said all that my BMW 545 is 18 years old - it has just gone 100k. It has had a couple of big bills in it's life and I am mindful that a major failure may mean the end - not many want to get stuck into something that could be a ballache. Our vectra is fifteen and has done nearly 155k - it passed it's MOT no issues however the lacquer is peeling and the seat bolsters are flat due to wear so at some point it will need to be replaced - I am looking now but £ 3-5k only buys you something in the last quarter of it's life. I do think that the days of bangernomics could be limited due to cars not being cheap, price and availability of parts, the motor trade not wanting to touch old stuff and many of the "cockroaches" no longer around. Having said that I could be completely wrong and a world wide down turn will mean people only having what they can actually afford.
  10. I remember somebody I went school with got dropped off in her father's 2000i on an A reg.
  11. May 1989. Just started work full time. Interest rates getting higher. Dad had got rid of his montego as too expensive. We cobbled circa £500 together - all you could get back then was rusty cortinas, escorts, metros. Dad spotted a Royale in the trader £525. Arranged to go and look - me and my mate went with my dad but were told we couldn't come to the house - my dad did the deal. When the car came home I could see why. At first it looked really nice until you got up close - rear valance full of plastic padding, o/s rear quarter dented and rippled and roughed up in readiness for more plastic padding. Rust spots everywhere including the roof. Car chucked out black smoke on heavy throttle. Only one window worked. At ten years old it was utterly shagged. When people complain about modern cars I think how good a ten year old car is these days. Even today with 70's/80's/90's car prices going through the roof your dog wouldn't have pissed on our Royale. I remember a sticker in the glovebox for the garage who had MOT'd the car. I thought nothing about it for years until one of the proprietors was killed.
  12. Had my first dose of new meds at asthma unit. I knew it would be fortnightly and eventually I would have to inject myself ( I have done this before ) - what I didn't know was one shot is three injections. Every two weeks. I will be like a charity shop dartboard. Did three peak flow tests which left me feeling like I had ran a marathon.
  13. Not a dodgy seller as such but I sold a trailer to a guy in Oldham. I had put it on ebay and he had won the auction. Guy came down and collected trailer with no issues - explained he did them up and sold them on. Later on I checked his feedback - one was negative with the comment " trailer fell apart before we got it home" 😂
  14. Quite a few SD1 owners caught out by that one.....
  15. Sounds like he dodged a right banana skin....
  16. Won an ebay auction for a B5.5 passat. Reg plate was obscured and seller wouldn't send me the reg until I had won the auction. MOT history showed a haircut of huge proportions - this wasn't the first clocked passat I'd seen as they wear their miles well. I remember Carr Mill Auctions at St Helens - it seemed to a memorable occurrence to see a car enter the hall under it's own power. An automotive chapel of rest.
  17. Because many people are toss.
  18. I wish my 545 sounded like that. You don't seem to be able to get anything aftermarket for it unlike the 645.
  19. I don't think any of the other cars that featured are still around. I think one of the capri's from the professionals survived.
  20. I remember my dad teling me a tale from the 70's - a brand new barrelled past him. On the pavement. 'Cos the brakes had failed.
  21. Hope they do not return to move the pug and recalibrate your camera ....
  22. I had the corgi mercedes but it was a taxi IIRC.
