Back in the news: A married man who murdered his lover and her young son more than 45 years ago will likely die behind bars. William MacDowell, 80, was sentenced to life in prison with a recommendation that he serve a minimum of 30 years for killing Renee and Andrew MacRae in November 1976. MacDowell, of Penrith, Cumbria, killed the mother and son at a layby near Dalmagarry on the A9, about 12 miles south of Inverness. Mrs MacRae's BMW car was discovered on fire in the layby but the bodies have never been found. https://news.sky.com/story/man-80-sentenced-to-life-after-murdering-his-lover-and-their-son-more-than-45-years-ago-12707789 The company Volvo used by MacDowell. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/29/renee-andrew-macrae-murder-inverness-1976-william-macdowell-guilty

Imagine owning that Marina though - yes, no crime actually happened in that car but it was the unreliable car breaking down that led to Marie Wilks' murder! I'm not sure I'd have taken it on a motorway again....

The abandoned Renault 5 of Hilda Murrell, a "naturalist, diarist and campaigner against nuclear power and nuclear weapons" who in 1984 was abducted in her own car during a burglary at her home in Shrewsbury and was and left to die in a field. "The case remains controversial and subject to conspiracy theories." Bonus image of the crime scene: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilda_Murrell

Pregnant Marie Wilks' Morris Marina coupe, which broke down on the M50 near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, leading to her being murdered whilst she was using the roadside emergency phone, in 1988. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Marie_Wilks

Donald Neilson aka the Black Panther's Morris, used in 1975 to transport kidnapped Leslie Whittle from Highley in Shropshire to her place of death in Kidsgrove near Stoke-on-Trent. I believe the car was found in Dudley where a security guard had been shot by Neilson, who later died. Bonus image of a young Martyn Lewis reporting about the case

Scene of the Brink's-Mat robbery in 1983. I was wondering if the Allegro was involved in the robbery, but it's probably just an unmarked police car 1983-style.

Sorry to post a new car, but one to watch for the future? The newer model has been on sale for a year, but here's an older one that got away!

I've been wondering if lockdown and the ensuing lack of new car sales and resulting surplus stock is going to create a whole lot of new and exciting late registration madness. Are we going to find cars such as the previous model Peugeot 208s and Corsas on 70 and 21 registrations?

I've spent the last couple of days getting an error message when clicking on Autoshite in my favourites, thinking the site had been down. I'd convinced myself that it had gone forever, until just when I decided to search for it on Google and found that it had had a makeover!

My dad had an automatic V6 760GLE saloon in the early 90s and a 740GLE estate straight after. The 760 was a beautiful car, as children we slid across the black leather seats in the back and burnt our legs on the hot leather in the summer. The engine sounded lovely. He wanted an estate though so replaced it with a high milage 740 estate which really felt every one of its miles - and the step down from a 760 to a 740 was very noticeable - velour seats, sunroof with a windy handle etc. The aforementioned overdrive button failed and rarely went into 5th gear on the motorway and the gear knob even came off in my dad's hand at one point, exposing all the wires. I'd love to have my own 760 saloon with all the trimmings.

Thanks, I didn't know that! Still, seeing a "C reg" Allegro is rather thrilling.
