“It’s never done that before” Could be true, but sellers credibility immediately under scrutiny, and general bad vibes about the situation.

I’m a fan of the welding; great to see a (literal) pro at work! 😎

Watching an Invacar auction on e bay, very interesting. It’s at almost 5k at the mo; I had no idea what they were worth. Then again ‘microcars’ do go for strong money, especially In Europe so maybe I shouldn’t be suprised. Could be bound for the continent, or maybe an AC completist?

Things ain’t what they used to be at the bargain bucket level of the used car market!

This old ruby is being delivered on Sunday. I prefer the earlier styling but the coupled front and rear brakes and supposed synchros on the 3 highest speeds and having a mostly steel roof means a later car, plus they are generally less expensive and a basically a bit more forgiving of an idiot (me) at the wheel. This will be used for local pottering semi daily In The centre of Tavistock in all weathers. it’s not going to be kept under a blanket and sat beside at shows in a fold out chair. Can’t think of anything worse to be honest. After all cars were designed to be used; and I can’t wait to park it next to an Audi Q7 or possibly a Tesla at Tesco and do a smol vs LARGE photo. Elon vs Herbert FACE OFF! Anyway thanks to @horriblemercedes we may soon have some photos of its previous escapades. Sadly a lot of history has been mislaid, apart from the plaques Rivited to the bonnet as spotted by @Dick Longbridge so I’ve not got much to go on. If I still own it at shitefest I will book a few days off and drive there avoiding motorways and dual carriageways; hopefully keeping out of the way of modern Britain with the keys chucked at anyone that wants a go 😂

IIRC that bottom plaque is from a trip through France, a few years ago

The other option is to remove the bling badges, front bumper and irons and get some appropriate font self adhesive digits to go in a curve below the radiator grille. Racy! Weight reduction FTW. Not sure It suits.

Thanks to @LightBulbFun’s research it appears it’s on its original reg. Cxv*** block was issued in London from may 1936 and this was first registered 1/6/36 - really happy about that as I initially thought it was a latter day replacment (it has that slightly crappy look of un sought after characters that the dvla tend to dish out as a replacement where there is no incentive to peddle it at an auction for their piggy bank) . Plus lots of regions in the 30s were still on the 2 letter prefix whereas London had hammered through those already, which confused my eye. I guess there are not many people with initials C.X.V. - so it has evaded plate hunters’ radar. To my eyes I think it’s got a set of later plates with smaller characters, so I will source either some cast aluminium larger character plates, or even some hand painted ones. In your face BS 145au!

This Abarth 595 is a bit new for here, but it’s got enough in built foibles and flaws that it feels from an older age; a bit like an 80s hot hatch. The ride is pretty rough, and the power delivery is quite peaky. I usually get bored of cars quickly; will the things that tire non enthusiast normal people (crashy ride, odd seat design and driving position, Induction sound effects turned up to 11) keep me entertained longer than usual? It was a toss up between this, or a 500c (soft roof) twin air. I like the idea of those but I got scared off a few too many “spares or repairs” e bay ads with the twin air. Does anyone have any real world experience with one?

I had a c900 Tii 8v that had been shod with “sime” tyres that were not very grippy in the wet, I made a mental note to change them after playing about with lift off oversteer- fun but the lack of grip was a worry. Alas I crashed it before I could change the tyres, through a dry stone wall. Goodbye saab! Admittely I used to drive it like a wanker, so it was a combination of poor adhesion and poor driving. But I’m still not a fan of Sime tyres; not seen any for ages.

I was parking earlier and I caught the horn push with my hand as I was turning the wheel, not hard has the entire massive centre boss is the horn push. Anyway a lady in a lowered vw caddy ahead of me lost it and got in my face. I kept apologising that it was a genuine error and not malicious / intentional, she said she was going to take a swing at me and then gestured at my car and called me a posh bastard, then got back in her car and drove off. Little did she know it cost way less than hers, and I was going to get a kebab.

I spotted on e bay last week a little spotters thing I had when I was a kid, and duely bought it now. It used to keep me occupied ….. And probably started my life long fascination with number plates. It also made me buy a particular plate some time ago as it triggered a memory of that old book I used to own….. The book I’m now reading in the car with the plate, bought because of the childhood memory of the plate in the book!

Wonder if VR means Vatican / roma (if mo = Modena etc)

Great purchase! Loved the sound of that brilliant straight six!

Lovely @trigger! Reminds me of a p plate 1850 auto I had in about 2004. It had a lovely Webasto roof and was the same colour. Sadly after being rescued from a barn and put into daily use something wierd happened with the rear axle and (to date the only time this has happened to me) a rear wheel fell off the car. I needed new underpants after that!

That’s also a brave snapper in the max power pics- looks like he asked the owner to to a burnout whilst crouched low beside/ almost under it. Committed!

I always remember my love for the Dimma kitted 205. It sort of went through a tacky cringey period when 205s were just “old” cars but with modern eyes they look so cool again. Much want; presumably a nice dimma kitted gti would now be north of 10k?

I was in the middle of a plate change to my plate wanker plate 😂

I took the opportunity to leave the roof off the ropey Boxster all day as it was tucked in the corner of the works car park, and it’s at the point where I think I’ve fixed the leak into the cabin, but it’s taking ages to dry out, given the time of year. No doubt the foam backing will need properly drying by pulling the seats and carpet to sort that properly. But that stripped out autoshite version of a GT3 lightweight can wait until the spring. To think Porsche used to charge more for less content; I’m getting it for free!
