  1. The premium he paid was in part due to the mileage etc, as long as he accepts value will drop simply from using it I personally don't see the problem. Someone who pays a premium for a car is likely to be demanding and unlikely to neglect or abuse it, so I suspect it will be looked after accordingly.

It just takes an impressionable teenager to see it in use to plant the seed for enthusiasts of the future.

Like a mint and boxed dinky, there's almost something sad about a car that's not driven and enjoyed IMO

  2. Scariest drive for me was a very tired xj40 that gradually overheated in traffic and had worn or damaged front suspension that was only partly connected to the steering wheel. Terrifying both stood still and on the move basically.

edit- a 425cc (18bhp IIRC) AZAM 2cv in the wrong circumstances was scary too (busy traffic on the a303) but was also terrific fun (trying to conserve momentum through corners)

  3. Vivid memories of the paint flaking off in chunks from my primary school headmaster's rover. Correct it was an early SD1. He remained loyal to the brand and it was replaced by an 800 mk1 fastback years later.

Shed award at secondary school went not to the teachers' cars but the school minibuses, an LDV 200 and 400. They were caned mercilessly by the staff and seemed to have recieved minimal rust protection as they were both H platers and both battle scarred and bubbling up by 1995

  4. Top save sir!

Glad you made it back ok. That first journey back, one eye on the temp guage, ears tuned to the Pink Floyd cassette, brings the memories flooding back!

The weep from the rad is on the passenger side upper corner, if that makes sense. All the best with the recommissioning work on the ex wuvvum/Robt/brookjm/garycox ghia estate.

I Hereby award the Patrick le Quement legion d'honneur for saving one of his signature designs for the blue oval, from the oval.
