Although it seems most people only want advice that justifies their already held viewpoint, I still try.
I would have posted in the grumpy thread if I had reached my 'go fcuk yourself' limit.
They both have been there for me when I have been drowning in my own fuck ups, so it seems reasonable to help out in return.
On the flip side when brother in laws sister arrived to ferry them to their next family gathering this afternoon, I stood by watching the chaos as it was realised she had a flat tyre.
After 15 munutes I had to take over though because idiots.
    Then it started raining.....
    Im still a  bit soggy

Good cheer to all men and all that other seasonal shit ?

Sadly I expect karma will just bring me more aggro.
On the other hand I usually find Xmas family gatherings to be more emotionally draining than transit fettling.
And one for the grin thread :
I managed to pull my own name out of the hat for family secret santa and, just for once, I got a decent present.
'My' santa massively overspent as well because I/he is such a nice guy?
A bottle of Makers mark 46 and a six pack of walnut topped whips. I deserve it because I am special* ?

My sister and partner are moving to Portugal on the new year.
They wanted a van to move there with.
They saw a transit on gumtree they liked and asked my advice.
I pointed out it was massively overpriced had spent 2 years sitting after a huge mot fail on rot, had had another fail the year after again for rot and the last 2 owners had only had it for 4 months each before punting it on.
I searched the ebay for something better near them. Half the milage half the price and twice as nice looking.
Apparently it was 'too cheap and probably broken' so they didn't even go look at it.
They then go ahead and buy the rotten Shitter.  Because the lady selling it 'knew nothing about cars but was very nice.'
Fast forward to Xmas eve and on route to our family gathering they broke down.
The transit and occupants were then deposited off a flatbed outside my parents house, 8 hours later at 6 am.
Guess who spent their afternoon under a transit while everyone else was shovelling dinner down their throats....
Top bolt on the starter was fcuked and no access, so I had to chisel a hole in the transmission tunnel to remove it.
New starter ordered to collect Friday and hopefully the dmf and ringgear are ok.
Took over 2 hours to get it of so no way am I trying to repair the starter I took off.
    Merry xmas?

I have been ignoring a small split on my voyager exhaust for 3 and a half months.
It's been very noisey for the last 3 months
In a act of extreme exertion I have dragged my arse out of bed before 11am and popped to work to have a look.
It's split and rusted out over half way round the middle box.
So up on the 'portable lift' and a quick buzz with the welder. Hopefully it will at least last to mot time

‘Vendor’ offering it free- to a good home, with no other takers! He was going to scrap it!
As we run a fleet of 4 Espero’s, thru Europe,  inc a UK red one, this seemed too good an option to pass up(& he was recompensed with expensive matured alcohol!)
Hadn’t moved from his barn storage for 3 yrs, but a bit of air in the tyres and a battery charge saw it running nicely, albeit with a strange alternator groan - that he was convinced wasn’t there previously.
Drove  300 miles south without issue, actually quite a nice car, although currently slower, as a 2 litre, than our red 1800 - but I guess that’ll change. Feels congested, a good blast once legalized should clear it.
It does have a little grot, , but we’re minded to sort - as long as the rest of the sheet is fairly clean, Thursday.

so, 2 red ( both manual ), a green auto @ 2 blue ( 1 of each)  Is a fair old collection of Esperos! Esperanto, maybe?

Sadly I have been very quiet on the car front for sometime. I have not touched any of my projects for ages. This burst of activity was just helping some close friends out.
Tbh they were both fairly dreadful jobs but i find it much easier working on other people's cars. Perhaps it because I just want the pain to end rather than worrying about when im next going to put the kettle on?

Had a customer return on this one
Radio had lost the aux option? Obviously all my fault.
Factory fitted aux/USBn the armrest but won't come up on the mode select of the radio.
Parrot hands free also has stopped working.
Lots of googling and apparently the radio needs to see a resistor across the inputs and also have a firmware flag present to allow aux function. Also usually buggers up with a flat/ removed battery.
Got him to disassemble the dash as penance while I tried to reflash the radio.
1+1/2 hrs of pissing about and I managed to set the aux on flag in the firmware and laugh at the birds nest of wiring and interface boxes he had uncovered.
Bmw oem aux works now so I said the parrot is not my problem?
Since my previous fiddling the rain sensor triggered front wipers and reverse triggered rear wiper now both work which they never did before.
    I call it a win?

I got in a bit of a quiet strop on Saturday.  We were in the Arndale centre in Manchester, with daughter and her boyfriend and wife and me.
I see a levi shop. I said, "My work jeans are starting to look worn. I'll see if they've got the same again"
    Yes black.501s in 38 x 30.
No I don't need to try them on. They will be my 4th identical pair.
Wife insists that I try them then tells me they are too baggy around the ankles. They clearly fit perfectly. She gets some bloke to find me other black jeans. More expensive and not 501s.  They look.shit.
Apparently I should buy them. I refuse. They don't have a button fly, the material isn't as soft. The fit on the arse is wrong. They are not what I know to be right.
My whole life balance has been ripped from under me.

I do have a bit of a grin.  Amazon has them. 25 quid cheaper and I can click and collect. I'll just buy them and start wearing them.  Nobody needs to know.
