I rather like that.  There is a faint alarm bell ringing though, because it's listed as an 1800 engine, which wasn't available in 1970-71.  Of course it could easily have had a replacement fitted in a 50-year life!  Appropriately, it's in Bedford, Bedfordshire.  Where else would it be!

I think after all his effort in saving these cars something less miserable is deserved. I think Angrydicky  suggested a Rover 620 which is a car I always thought looked quite good for a modern car.  A Rover 75 is another that has some style and character.

They are good, yes: our identical Denim Blue example did the trip to Inverness every year while we had it.  That car was one of my better decisions!

The yellow Cortina disappeared quickly now this has appeared to tempt me.
    This looks fantastic:

Can someone here buy it so we can do a group test with my CX Pallas and Granada 2.8GL.

Also some unexpected items in the bagging area this afternoon...

    Well blow me down.
    Most unexpected.
    And inside...

Some ace Matchbox models that still haven't made it across the Irish Sea through normal retail channels, plus a very groovy Corgi Juniors MCI A8 Greyhound bus.
Plus a bonus cassette tape. Most groovy.
    Cheers for that, @flat4alfa!

If your  MIL was a named driver on the Motability car, the insurers will, if asked, give her proof of NCB as a named driver providing no accidents of course.
This is acceptable by many insurers when she insures in her own right.
I found Motability very good to deal with at such a time.

One of the last bids I put in before banning myself from eBay was for this door donor for my MK2 Transit

Just kidding folks, I still need a side door. Hadn't really appreciated that these have a plastic base to allow for the front air dam etc

"TM" is a local registration too.  It's quite possible the truck hasn't been more than a few miles from home in its entire life!  Could even have been part of the press fleet...

Still remember just standing by the tailpipe of this thing when it was running at the FotU and enjoying the lazy "Blub, blub, blub" idle.  Sounded like it was idling at about 200rpm which seems to be the norm for their stuff.
I really quite enjoy American cars which aren't trying to pretend to be anything else.  I *really* wanted to bring back the Chevy Astro that we had as a runaround back in 2014.  It was the "low end" version over there (rather than the day vans you tend to see), but it was just so, so, so comfy a thing to waft around in and I've never been in something that was just so easy to drive.

It was hilarious though looking under the bonnet.  Over here it would be a 2.0TD if you were lucky...No, V6 petrol here - all 4.6 litres of it.
It had such a long stroke because of that that the torque was absolutely ridiculous...It pulled like a train from idle, and the gargling exhaust note was just hilarious.  Not quite as hilarious as how the thing would stand on its tail end and take off like it had been fired out of a cannon if you did floor it was though.
Sadly it was going to cost well north of five grand to get it shipped back though (plus the purchase price!), so I just couldn't make it make sense.
Even though this is a very "bread and butter" vehicle, it's just so very American...and that means COMFY and EASY where motoring is concerned.

    Update: RC Golf
I needed to make some upper wishbones* for the steering. It turns out the picture hanging kit I bought has come in handy after all. I made the rough shape of them, drilled and trimmed and epoxy resined in place. So that's the steering sorted now.

The battery compartment cover was missing so I used the cover off the donor parts car, trimmed it, relocated one of the retainers and added two locating lugs. Looks a bit poor but it will do the job.

So the next thing to do is to look at the motor...

Post Lady delivered a large parcel from deepest Essex.
In there was a Mini.  So, four different Corgi Mini castings could be lined-up for scrutiny

The oldest and the youngest have no opening parts.  Progress, eh
