I’ve run out of indoor storage, so I’ve dumped it in a large empty building in Birmingham for the weekend.

Remind me who it was who had to drive the thing north instead of just getting a lift from the nice mister @gm in his mini.

Honestly, it was a fine experience except for being allergic to dogs.

It is a tale as old as time.
Boy convinces mate that a Clio 182 is a fine plan.
    Mate buys Clio 182.
    Inevitably, mechanical maladies abound.
Clio 182 returns to its natural habitat.
    Clio Stu works his magic.
Clio 182 is ready for collection.

At this point, @loserone decides to repay the misery I foist upon him Clio 182 wise by letting me know of the existence of this fine specimen...

    It's a 2009! MK1 Octavia 100 pd..
    Low mileage

Never raced or rallied, but extensively mini-cabbed (and doggo cabbed)

Nevertheless, it forged northwards in fine fashion

As alluded to above, @loserone took some antihistamines and trooped north, arriving at mine in good time.

I then took over for the last hour to Clio Stu's
It was all I had hoped*

All things considered, it drives fucking lovely! Bit of a shudder from the brakes and the shocks are not in their first flush of youth..but it boosts!

Awesome spottage. I’m still grinning at both of them — but especially the Granada.

Quite the morning!  I had a client meeting in Ely which is always a pleasant jolly.  Once completed, I decided to take a middle-class deviation to Waitrose for a Bear Claw pastry and orange juice following a productive appointment.
Then, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye.  I was so excited, I abandoned my car in a bus stop and forgot to put my handbrake on in a fluster!

Communications were sent to @Skizzerand @Cheggers, with whom - via Whatsapp - we share our love of the unloved.

Things then took a very quick change of direction as I pulled into Waitrose

This is the best thing I've spotted in years. Actual years.  A Pre-facelift MK2 Granada 2.3 L in full 'Euston Films/Minder' condition and spec.  Just. Simply. Amazing.

These still look so bloody good.  I wanted it, there and then.

I've had to come home for a sweet cup of tea and a lie down.
PS - this is a maximum 2 hour car park, so it's definitely being used.  Fair play to them too.

back on this today after procurement of new bits.

First up, a new caliper and pads (and caliper carrier bracket) for the front left.

    All good!

Time for the new Car and Lambda sensor ..
@jaypee modelling what £170 buys you

    And fitted

Brilliant, great stuff. That's the Cat and front brake sorted.  Clio Stu has done the steering angle sensor and the rear brakes. Only welding to go...
Think I'll fire it up and see how it sounds/check for any blows...

Ok, time to fire up the scanner.  And do some test driving.
On start the lights stayed off, but came on when braking.
Code reading pointed to a brake light switch issue.
Removed the switch and exercised it - got brake lights and the dash lights stayed off. Result.
New brake light switch has been ordered.

With the rear brakes having been rebuilt I was hoping some adjustment/checking the pivot that the cables go into would get me a functional handbrake...

As you can see, it went well*
The cable is siezed - so the inner cable doesn't return fully. This meant that :
    1. The handbrake lever on the caliper was not actuating correctly - so the handbrake was shite.
    2. The cable stopped the lever returning correctly. Hence the caliper would stay partially on.

time to get the cable out.

We really* enjoyed that! A new one will be ordered.
Last thing to look at was the welding needed on the driver's side rear.

After an initial prod with a screwdriver..

That's a distinct lack of inner and mid sill.
Handily* next to the axle mount and the plastic fuel tank.

We packed up and went home.

I've got no more storage space and no time for cars these days so obviously last week I bought this.

It was on eBay looking horrid and nobody else bid on it. It has a fresh MOT though, and has had a bunch of mechanical work done recently, and has a galvanised replacement chassis. The seller turned out to be a very amiable chap who has had it a few years, knew the previous two owners, is a proper engineer and is into old military vehicles so cares about the substance not the surface. Ideal.

It wasn't a megabargain but these seem to be on the up nowadays and have been on my want list since they were new and I was six. They come up for sale reasonably regularly but are either stupidly expensive or utter basket cases: this one was nicely Goldilocks.

It runs but I trailered it away because 1. I didn't do that with the last car I bought and regretted it (Gamma, still not running) and 2. I need to justify owning a trailer.

It's an absolute hoot to drive. Lovely snickety gear change, super precise steering, good brakes, fab noise. There are a few issues to sort and it needs a bit of a service/tune, so I'm planning to trailer it to LotusBits for fettling soon.

Interior is really good, apart from the seats needing a bit of a clean:

It's currently in storage at a friend's house (there are clues in the pictures); I have no idea where I'll put it when it comes home but hopefully some solution will turn up by then.

Safety Devices are the kings of roll cages. They don’t list the 600 (or its Accord sister) for an off the shelf kit, but they do bespoke as well so may be worth a call?
I dare say there are cheaper options, mind.
Might also be worth DMing Richard Brunning on Twitter, he’s bound to know someone who does cages well.

I've rescued several of these injectors so far out of 16 only 2 have failed to be revived and some looked like those (same type used on early EFI rover V8), I've built a rig to run them up with cleaning fluid a frequency generator and resistor to mimic the original load resistor.
Cut the hoses off being carefull not to damage the injector, and pull the gauze  filter out of the end with a large self tapping screw then running  them both directions with the fluid while cycling the injector seems to work.
There should be  a Bosch Part number on them,  google it and they might be the same as something more common.
If you are happy to send them I'll have a go at reviving them  for you.
