this - moved from East Ayrshire to English equivalent of Kilmarnock (Gloucester) and never once regretted it. Now live in the English version of Cumnock and Doon valley - except the people are less strange!

the sunroof on mine leaked, the frame had started to rust, and water pooled up, then ran down and into the cogs, down those, into the motor and out onto the interior light, where it then entered the car.

Costa del glosta will find this out when I eventually get round to posting him the sunroof motor (im so fucking crap at remembering) , as with that removed it was fine, I sealed it up anyway!

I'm glad the xantia hasn't got a sunroof, the one in the zx leaked too, tiger seal to the rescue again there!

there are numerous reasns for an inoperable sun roof! The first is that it leaks around the seal. The second is the metal frame has rusted and has pushed the seal, letting water in. The third is a drain tube has come adrift, the fourth is that a drain tube is blocked or split. They run down the inside of the door pillars (which are filled with expanding foam for good measure). The fifth is that the motor has malfunctioned - plastic gear wheels are never a good idea. The sixth is the electrics are wonky and it refuses to seal. Seventh is a microswitch has gone inside the switch/motor. There is a clutch inside the motor once you undo the interior lights and you can in theory wind the roof by hand.

try and take the clutch cable off and reroute it (move it) as sometimes the movement is compromised by the position of it behind the engine! My last two manuals had superb, smooth, light gear changes.

Well, I have had this Citroen XM - dead and rusting - outside for over a year. The engine came out in the summer, and she was looking sorry for herself. I couldn't find a scrappy that would take it for nothing. In fact, with no wheels at the front and engine- and interior-less they wanted to charge me £80 to remove it. I'm Scottish and I went out and bought an angle grinder and twenty cutting discs instead. As I dismantled crudely i removed everything that could be salvaged and the wiring for recycling. So, we went from nearly a car, to a much reduced car in about nine hours over two weekends. Having bought a transit, I'm going to pop to the scrapyard now with the bulkhead and subframe without cutting them any more. In the meantime 1/2 a car has gone to the tip. A couple of parts of body went to a friend whose car needs some welding.

When I was at Uni the miserable old get who ran the garage I had a Saturday job at had me cut up a VW LT van with an axe and a lump hammer. He wouldn't let me use the grinder because, skinflint mingebag that he was, he reckoned I would have used too many discs.

Excellent, only issue you may have is lazy lawyers.
The lawyer I use managed to buy a house for someone in 10 days, he had to hassle the other party's lawyer every day to make it happen though!
