  1. This has turned up close to me in Stoke on Trent. It’s probably not fair to class it as abandoned as it’ll probably get removed fairly quickly. It’s the second car around here that’s spontaneously combusted recently, I remember there was a fad years ago where kids set fire to the plastic bumpers on cars, hopefully it’s not becoming a fashion again!
  2. Many of these have ended up on eBay, I recognise the location. These we’re spotted on a recent trip to Watford/ Croxley Green in North London. There were plenty more old heaps seemingly abandoned on people’s drives but I felt too conspicuous taking photos. It’s weird seeing a quite affluent area full of so many abandoned motors, maybe people here don’t need the £400 or so Car take back would pay so are happy for them to fester.
  3. They’re probably wondering why their kettles stopped working.
  4. I don't think so, but I'll have a look. I've got some more of these hubcaps knocking around so I may have a spare in the garage.
  5. I got up early today after a night shift to pick up some Volvo 140 wheels that I don’t really need from Stockport. The seller had a box of 140 parts that I also purchased, luckily the box had a pair of front indicator lenses that I was desperate for but it also contained a load of stuff I don’t need. Anything you’re after for the 164, @wuvvum On the way back I dropped into ATS at Macclesfield where the bored looking lad working there told me Laguna's aircon had a leak and was borked, commenting that someone had tried to paint the aircon button black. Never mind, even if it did gas up ok I recon it would’ve all leaked out by the time I next had opportunity to use it next year. Hopefully the Groupon voucher can be used on the wife’s Jazz instead.
  6. I was after an XUD Xanita recently and went after one on the French Car Forum, unfortunately I was pipped at the post!
  7. Popped into the local shite breakers today for a battery tray from a Corsa B and a suspension cup from a Laguna Mk1. The Corsa battery tray was easy to retrieve but the Laguna part was a different kettle of crabs. A diesel estate was found and after clambering up I set to work. The strut bolts came out but I couldn’t get to the top mount nuts as the bonnet wouldn’t open. Clambering up and into the Laguna to pull the bonnet release didn’t yield the desired results and the bonnet remained firmly closed. Unfortunately I disturbed the golf next to the Laguna and approx a million wasps appeared from under the wing forcing me to make a “parkour” style escape over the pile of cars. I never realised I could move so fast! Im returning on Tuesday to get that Laguna part.. with better tools and a bee keeper outfit!
  8. They seem to be quite a bit of aggro in various ways but I absolutely loved mine. My roll-away wasn't even the first case of a driversless out of control XM I'd experienced. . After a spirited drive I parked on the road outside my inlaws house and sat in the living room chair so I could admire my XM through the window. After a minute or so it rolled off down the hill, by the time I'd dashed outside it had already escaped. It crossed the cul-de-sac and ended up in a neighbours front garden, knocking down their for sale sign. Luckily there was no damage and the neighbours had recently gone out, otherwise the XM would've T boned their parked car. I can only think the front discs were hot and contracted as they cooled, allowing the parking brake to release.
  9. I've never been to Newcastle motor auctions, I'm not sure of it's still going but reviews from 11 months ago suggest it could be. https://newcastle-staffordshire.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/newcastle-motor-auctions-16315928.html I'd be well up for a meet either way. edit* it appears they've closed down.
  10. I had two left, along with a single “blade” that’s used to scrape old glue from the glass. I’ve just chucked them in the post to you.
  11. The other day I was trying to fix a rattle on the Laguna which was traced to the plastic shroud that goes around the rear view mirror. I took it off and stuck a blob of blu tak behind it to try and prevent it from moving. Pushing it back into place and guess what happened? A few messages to the insurers and £100 later Autoglass we’re booked to replace the screen. I wasn’t too upset as the screen was chipped to buggery and would’ve needed replacement soon anyway. The nice man turned up, replaced the screen and even gave me some double sided tabs to stick the quarter light latches back onto the 145. These came adrift years ago and as a result the windows are free to flap around, if they drop out or are lost they’re practically irreplaceable although Kieron the Autoglass guy recons they could find some, having sourced and fitted a side window to a 1930s Roller recently. Keiron had never heard of a Volvo 145, or even a 240. He told me he wasn’t born until 1993 which made me feel absolutely ancient. With the catches stuck back on I then reattached the Visas rear view mirror, all minor victories but all steps in the right direction!
  12. A few years back I bought a Citroen XM for spares. It was running but had no brakes at all, not even the parking brake. The inlaws drive where it was getting stored was at the top of a hill in a cul de sac and due to space constraints I had to unload the car from the trailer rat the bottom of the hill. No problem I thought, I'll drive the XM off the trailer and up the hill to the driveway. Obviously I stalled it as I was pulling onto the driveway and rolled off backwards down the hill. I just managed to miss some parked cars as I careered into oblivion but as I approached the road at the bottom of the hill I could see busy traffic passing in both directions. By sheer blind luck I missed the other vehicles and came to rest on a grass verge. After my heartrate had returned to normal I reconnected the slave battery , fired the old XM up and finally powered it up the hill onto the drive. It was at that point that I thought that my "taking the piss" lives had been expended and I decided not to take any more chances in the future!
  13. Today I completed my bi-annual shite rearrangement. The Volvo came out of its winter slumber (a few months late, but “life”) and the Visa was pushed inside. I actually managed to do some more work on the Volvo, bolting the steering box back in properly and adding even more fixing to the front wings to replace missing bolts. Unfortunately for the Visa the front numberplate that had been stored on the passenger seat has melted in the summer heat! FFS! It’s literally never been on the road. I might put it in the oven on a low heat with something to hold it down. Bastard thing.
  14. Thanks for the replies Barrett. My Dad found them fascinating and wants me to print out the comments so they can be included in the album. I didn't consider the Humber being a shooting brake, for some reason I just assumed it was a big saloon. You can't see the rear of it, so it could be anything of course. The other woodie deffo isnt the BSA as that was a pick up/ flatbed for delivering milk churns. There are other images of it around in family albums but so far I've yet to find any.
  15. Hi all. After another look at the albums I’ve spied a couple of odd looking vehicles in the background. The woodie shooting brake looks especially cool, although looking again they might be two different vehicles. There’s a bonus motorbike and sidecar snap that those in here might be interested in.
  16. Trotted off to the local breakers to find a fuel filter head that accepts cheap filters to run on the Laguna, I want to use biodiesel and you get through a lot of fuel filters for the first few months! I removed the filter heads from a Ssangyong Musso and an old E class Merc. The parts are virtually identical but the Musso has brass fittings and the Merc uses plastic, the Musso item is the better one to use apparently. I also retrieved a load of Corsa B wing screws and those spring loaded clip things they screw into as the Volvo 145 in my garage has a stack missing. They’ve done the job a treat!

This has just appeared on Facebook if anyone’s interested.
  18. Moving on… I managed to score a cheap “only used once” tow bar from Facebook marketplace. The seller said it would 100% fit a hatchback but then said he had it fitted to his estate. To clarify he sent me a link to the eBay seller he purchased it from and the seller confirmed it would fit.. It turns out it DOES fit, just not particularly well. The estate is approx 10cm longer than the hatch and although the tow bar bolts up fine it’s designed to clear the longer estate back end… luckily the tow bar is of the detachable type so won’t look like this all the time. It should be fairly easy to modify to a more appropriate position with a little cutting and drilling. Then again, I may just leave it as it is. Edit… Thought better of leaving the tow bar hanging out the back like that and managed to move it further under the car by turning the plates that make up the bracket around and drilling an extra hole. Pretty easy tbh.
  19. Mini update on this thing, There was still loss of excess paint on the NSR quarter which looked pretty crap so on a quiet evening at work I forget the steam cleaner up to 11 along with the TFR and got to work. There was paint flying all over the place and after half an hour of jet washing the NSR looked slightly better, however after it was dried off it looked a horrendous mess with patches all over the place. Back at home I got to work with the mop and G10 and finally managed to remove the last of the mismatched paint. Luckily the original paint survived and the door actually looks in pretty good shape! Not worth replacing at least.

  21. Great, looks like you really know your shite of yesteryear! AFAIK the BSA was a pickup rather than a saloon, I don’t know if it was a production model or modified.
  22. Thanks! My Dad just mentioned the BSA, I thought that would be the hardest to get but obviously not! Apparently it was a pickup and used to deliver milk churns. Here’s another one.
  23. Hi all. I’ve been looking though some photo albums my Dad was recently given and some of the images feature some nice looking old cars. Apart from the Austin badged one I’ve no idea what any of them are though. Do any vintage shite enthusiasts on the forum have a clue? The photos look like they range from the 1930s up to the late 50s but I’m not totally sure on the exact dates, unfortunately none of the photos have any captions with them giving any information.
  24. Granted, although it could be dropping off more stolen TV,s. The Leon on the other hand? It's owner seems to have found the holy grail of parking spaces.
