Well, the block is on hold until I get the new tooling and spares, so may as well crack on with the head. I've moved my leave at work one day later to Tuesday and Wednesday to work on the block - hopefully everything arrives before then 🤠
    Starting with lapping the valves.

This was actually one of the most relaxing jobs I've done on this car. Nice and steady, and taking my time.
    Results are promising too.

Should help keep the head a bit more gastight!
After a lot of tweezer action, fangs, and the air gun, I got the majority of the swarf out of the head chambers, I installed the valve stem seals - piece of cake with the insertion tool that came with the removal pliers.

Finally, it was time to re-introduce this haggard lash-up to reassemble the valves!

I was unsure if this was going to work this time around, but thankfully it did!

With the stems lubed and the collets greased, everything came together nicely and all 8 valves were fitted.

After that, the tappets and shims were greased/lubed and fitted, and the camshaft studs fitted. Going to check torque them again with the advice from @red5 (Thanks mate!).
    But first, it's breakfast time.

They may look like wheelbarrow wheels, but they are very different. Every law that applies to a car applies to a trailer and faults are punished as if it were a car (in law, a trailer is a vehicle). Police are much keener on checking trailers these days, after all the motorist is an easy target.

After a MUCH better day I am back home. I will post the full story on @LightBulbFun thread to keep it tidy, which is where any updates will also be posted to save some of searching for the latest.
Sufficient to say it was great to meet @red5 and some of his students. The Disco covered 890 miles in 2 days, towing, and never missed a beat!

Honestly, it's like when I named my girls, from left to right:
Willy the white car, Olly the orange van, Billy the blue car and of course Suzy the silver shit heap. Christ, the grief I had trying to get parts.

    Amateur.
A lady I was seeing to last year had a nice little desk/laptop set up in her bedroom.
She pinned me to the bed and rode me like a rocking horse during one teams meeting.  It was quite interesting hearing about her company's projected P&L for the last financial year whilst being mounted.  Made a change from The Archers or Loose Women in the background.

That might be a problem. Only - that hasn't happened, has it?

There's that saying about arguing with people on the internet, and I want to make absolutely sure that I don't fall into that trap.  You are absolutely obsessed about this detail, and nothing I or anyone else says is going to change your opinion of it.  So I wish you every success in your pursuit.
Please just remember to be courteous in all of your dealings with people; they are often underpaid and overworked - dealing with shit day in day out.  I'm absolutely sure you'll be nothing other than immaculate, patient and polite whilst dealing with people whose priorities and focusses are different to yours.

You are taking all this stuff far too seriously M8.
I know zilch about computer search systems, but is it possible that your industrial scale DVLA bashing has alerted them in some way, and they are wondering why somebody is so interested in such an obscure group of vehicles?   Not suggesting you are being in any way dishonest, but sometimes it's best to keep your head down.  Just saying.

I do hope that Dez can get this thing on the road sooner rather than later.  Then he can just worry about whether it is going to start in the morning, like the rest of us.

I had an indicated 100 out of the Sierra on the private road which is often mistaken for the A421 between what is easily thought of as Bedford and St Neots but is actually not for legal reasons.
As the good captain said: it wasn’t an experience I’d like to repeat. In that car 30mph on the needle is exactly 30 by GPS so god knows what it was, but the poor old car protested by vomiting quite a good measure of its internal fluids and I did the same.

Top speed is irrelevant. I had the Dolomite at an indicated 85mph (probably more like 80mph) and it was shit. Loud, light steering, crosswinds trying to shift it a lane over, 6mpg in 20w50.
You do top speed once for a laugh and then never again.
Realistically you're not going over 55mph. I wouldn't even take the thing near a motorway - it's a shit place to be in a Triumph Acclaim, let alone something with three wheels.
Carb needles and ign timing are also irrelevant until you can actually test drive it as the book figures are all based on a fresh engine and petrol that no longer exists. The Dolly drives significantly better tuned by ear and feel over the book values.
