We've sold out the main 350 car display area already but we'll have more space thankfully. The main reason for having an "open to all" policy is to bring an end to the infuriating "does it qualify?" comments. Whether this is a sensible policy remains to be seen. I thought these also had a conventional master cylinder backup or was that only the Silver Spirit? I am loving this RR. So many of the cars on this place are hovering between scrapman and salvation but few are this glamorous.

In TWC news, she hasn't been out much this year. Too much else going on and the single seat option isn't great for a family... Hope to boost the number of driving family members in the coming months. But, the winter project is to finally do something about the bodywork, which has been getting worse since she returned to the road. More on that once we get started. I also hope to go over the mechanicals. I've managed to acquire (courtesy of Adam) a stripped engine. I know it rotates but haven't yet assessed whether the distributor moves. That is very much my hope. The engine appears to be an early one with the old-style filter, correct for TWC. I also need to do something about the transmission. I do have a spare, but it is locked in gear. Considering swapping just the diff, but that could well be beyond my meagre abilities.

Hope you get to enjoy some travels together. Such a rare, almost utterly unloved car these days. Which makes it prime for this place. Did see one advertised in Belgium with a BMW flat twin crammed into it... Fast and rare!

Regarding clutch, are any gears synchronised? If no synchro, I always snick into a synchro gear first before selecting. Tends to stop stuff moving, though naturally won't stop a clutch that isn't quite separating.

Pre-selectors make more sense when you consider when they were current. Manual gearboxes were often lacking synchromesh and had one of those tricky clutch things. By comparison, a pre-selector is delightfully easy to drive. By the time automatics had been made to work with smaller engines, pre-selectors were rather pointless.

Apologies for there being a me in the shot, but not only was this one-of-six Daimler CVG6 with centre-door a joy to drive, the video on it did amazingly well too. Keep-fit steering, three brake servos (one for each front wheel, one for the rear effectively acting on the handbrake mechanism), pre-select gearbox and a lovely Gardner six cylinder diesel. My favourite fact, not mentioned in the video, is that the brake lights are operated by a mercury switch, so only come on with sufficient G force! Only one conclusion to draw. I must feature more buses.

I'm still amazed it worked. Must have done about 1500 miles since then. Power still dies off completely about 3500rpm, but there's so much torque low down that this is rarely a problem.

Magic potion worked wonders, though the stuff creating a brief runaway didn't half help blow some crap out... 78bhp on the Dyno suggests there is still an underlying issue though but the main difference post spray (aside from the fact it actually ran properly) was that we could actually hear the turbo again.

That Daimler is deeply delightful.

Gawd. Some honest truths in this thread. I need to pay attention and sort my mess out too. It's genuinely debilitating at the moment.

Yet the 2CV was producing 29bhp from 602cc at 5750rpm (slightly more in the Ami and Dyane). They don't have any issue revving. Regarding heater, air-cooled really isn't as good as a proper heater matrix, especially around town. Adequate, definitely but far from perfect. Drive by noise regs were certainly an increasing issue. Even very late 2CVs had extra bits of rubber on the engine to try and quieten them down and I believe it was one of the biggest issues of the Honda 1300 compared to its rivals. Water jackets really help rein in the noise.
