  1. Right, I tried this the other day and the post kept on reproducing my pictures at the end of my post despite them already being on the post. Anyway, I have a small selection of recently purchased 1/43s. I have tried to stay away from 1.43s and concentrate on 1/18s but some of the ones I've picked up were so low priced, it was too irresistible to pass. So, I have a Corgi Vanguards Austin Allegro and a Rover P6 V8, a Corgi Rover 2000 "Golden Jacks" and courtesy of @bunglebus I have a Solido Renault 4 "La Poste" van: I've always wanted a Golden Jacks Rover since I first knew about them. They were quite pricey though and many had the spare wheel "Rover" emblazoned lid missing. The great thing about the Golden Jacks Rover is that the spare wheel cover has its "Rover" emblazoned lid still which many, many examples no longer have. Again, cheap for what it was given very similar examples are going for £40+ etc... Rover comparison: Despite being technically made by the same manufacturer (Corgi) the Rover P6s are quite different, the Vanguards Rover is much better in its proportions and looks. The Golden Jacks Corgi Rover is not as good and lacks a lot of detail (hence the added details) Both though have jewelled headlights and thats about it for similarities.
  2. A couple of purchases by me: Firstly 1/18 Mercedes C36 AMG: Now, some of you may remember correctly that I have posted this up very early on in this thread many years ago, it was posted along with a 1/18 black Peugeot 605. The only issue is, when I went to dig those cars out of my Mum's loft, I couldn't find it, along with 605, an Audi A6 estate and a 1/18 'Senna' Mercedes 190. I cannot think for the life of if me who'd nick them. Both Mum and sis never went in the loft. The only people who ever did was myself, and some workmen some years back when the loft was being insulated and even then I took everything down before anyone went in the loft. Anyway, I'm building my collection back up again, I've got a 1/18 Peugeot 605 and Mercedes C36. This Merc C36 isn't in too bad in condition compared to worse examples going for more money. Mercedes 190e Corgi: Until relatively recently I hadn't realised that Corgi had made a normal 190 as the ones I'd seen were the bodykitted ones. When this arrived, both axles had popped out of their holders and the black paint on the door rubbing strips and handles had worn off. Plus it had marks on the front screen and roof, so clearly previously used as intended as a toy. I drilled out the front rivets carefully not going in too far and managed to prise the base off. I carefully bent the base around where the axles are normally held in place as this opens the plastic acle holder to help pop them back into place. The bending of the plastic base had nearly taken its toll as the rear part was ready to tear away but thankfully I'd got the axle back in before any further damage was done. I clipped the base back on and took a black tipped pen to the rubbing strips and handles. Now it rolls properly and looks more original.
  3. Nice, but a bit salty for me. One day...
  4. Nice! Let me know (or I'll keep an eye on this thread) as I'll be in Bournville for most of the day.
  5. Looks like a still from Crimewatch UK 1989. "Just get in there love, don't scream and you'll be alright..."
  6. Reminds me I was offered a job some years back for JLR driving cars off the production line and parking them in the carpark. Wouldn't mind it now mind, but the money offered was too low at the time.
  7. Interesting. I have the earlier version somewhere like this:
  8. At first glance, that looks like it says "mr" Sava which sounds like some dodgy foreign bloke or a mid-1980s small time shop chain. I'm pretty sure there is a warehouse or "business park" near the M6 called "iLink". Yeah pal, you ain't 'linking' anything.
  9. @AnnoyingPentium I got a reply from the seller of the above garages, he has just bought some 1.64 cars and is going to rescale the garages and offer them at some point: "Hi I've just ordered a bunch of Hot Wheels 1:64 scale vehicles. They should be here this week so I can use them to help me rescale it. I'll push it up the to do list and see what I can do.It'll probably be done from MDF rather than card so it's more sturdy. Thanks" I am definitely going to be purchasing the garages if he can do them.
  10. Just tried to swap my Peugeot against a BMW 520d up for £1395. I was offered £800 for the Peugeot to which I then offered Peugeot + £300 for the 520d given the BMW had 205k compared to the 134k mine has. Offer wasn't excepted. Ah well, still plenty out there to check.
  11. Well, I finally did it. I actually bought a 1.64 set of garages for my cars. I love garages, real ones (probably because I don't have one that I can regularly use, I rent one + a unit, but both not near home) and toy ones. I noticed a few shiters have these set of garages and searched eBat many were big prices but some reasonable but were snapped up and gone by the time I got paid. I then saw one advertised on eBay at £39.99 and offered less, then in the midst of negotiations, I found the same one for £8.99 'buy it now' SOLD to me 😁 You'll noticed I have modded it a bit, there is black tape on the roof (easily removed) to mock composite roofing used on real garages and the handles painted silver as you would expect on most real garages. It looks as near to real as I can get it but I'll look at other options like some mock-brick to stick on or something. You'll also notice the smaller 1.60 garages at the end. I bought this some years ago without doors for a couple of quid as many have been broken/been lost. I spotted some unpainted new replacement doors on eBay and snapped them up. They fit on Ok (after a tad bit of faffing about) but does need painting (as does the whole garage to be honest) I've also managed to re-fit the garage correctly as the roof was loose and thus the new doors kept falling off. Prior to the purchase whilst browsing on eBay, I spotted these '00' gauge garages (1.76 scale iirc) I sent the sellers an email asking if they are able to up the scale a bit as I'd love to have a set of these garages too for my 1.64s. They sell the 00 gauge garages as a build kit.
  12. Thanks. Take the Nova by all means as I have exactly the same one, its just the Golf I was hoping for.
  13. So following on from a post last year about lack of aircon, it had been correctly suggested to me that the lack of cold air or ultra hit air in the winter was down to a flap inside the airbox, this suggestion was correct as I took a look inside the airbox and low behold, the bottom flaps are broken from the shaft. So my worst fears are true, the job will require the air flow box to cut through. Great 😡 finding someone to do the job is going to be challenging, I don't have the tools, space or patience to do it myself. In other boring news, I bought a replacement boot mat for it. Car breakers are utterly useless, they never get back so f*ck it, I'll buy some cheapy boot tray. Still waiting for my passenger side sun visor, the door has never been on presumably broken by previous owner. The bloody thing will get 2 rear tyres tomorrow as the although Ok, are starting to crack and wear.
  14. I'll take the boxed Golf and boxed Tetley Transit if thats Ok?
  15. There was one of those Dinky Mini Countrymans in a toy box at a charity shoppe a few weeks ago, it was a bit battered, frame bent and some tyres were missing. I'm sure it would have cleaned up Ok and I have some spare tyres or know where to get them. But I felt that possibly on bending it back I may snap somewhere so I passed on it.
  16. This is fantastic. Like yourself, but in a much slower way, I am trying to get as many West Mids/Shropshire/Worcs model busses as I can. Many though a VERY expensive and I just cannot justify the expense to myself. So far I have accumulated: The MCW bus was a tat-shop acquisition out in Tenbury Wells. (I need to visit again) The Leyland Lynx is a recent acquisition. This Merc bus is a Midland Red First bus and I think I spotted a similar bus at the Bewdley Steam Railway parked up under going some renovation (it had no livery, just plain grey primer iirc) I bought this from a charity shoppe in Stourport. Although it doesn't have a West Midlands destination, I forgive it seeing as National Express are based on Digbeth, Birmingham. Ok, so not Midlands at all, but I bought this as a place holder for any future acquisition of an actual Midland Red Leyland National. All the ones I looked at were heavily over-priced. I stuck a bid on this one and won as I just wanted a Leyland National model bus. Its up for swaps if anyone has a Midland Red Leyland National? As is this: Lancashire United bus. Bought with the National express coach above. However, there is scope to make into a Birmingham bus, but it'd be a shame to do away with the logos already present so its here if anyone has a Midland bus to swap.
  17. Nice! Any pics? For sale? Yep, I've got your old Revell Manta. I have re-glued the base quite neatly and it seems to be holding out well enough. I'm a bit inbetween about the scale of cars. I'm more drawn to 1/18s but their sheer size and my lack of anywhere to display them is testament to my scarcity on buying them. The 1.43s are nice and I do buy them but again, you end up with too many. 1.24s are at a point of interest for me. Not exactly premium feeling but some real nice models out there, I've more than a few on my watch list at the moment. I had a yellow Bburago Sapphire Cosworth like yours, sadly I lent it to some idiot who went and wrecked/lost it. I also had a BMW e34 5-series but I never felt it was a great casting. I've also got the 2x Renault 5s and the Nissan Prairie.
  18. Speaking of Dodge Vipers, this is mine: Bought for me by Fatha_Sterling in 1994/1995 as my his brother, my uncle, used to work for a Jeep/Chrysler dealership in Belgium somewhere and they had a real one in their showroom, never saw it (or at least I don't remember seeing one) I used to also have the Blue and white striped 1/18 hard-top version but I don't know what happened to that. As a Peugeot 407 owner, I wanted to buy a 407 in model form. I have all of the ones in 1/64 scale and then found this: It had been listed and didn't attract any bids so I bashed in a bid upon second listing and won. Its Ok and the closest I'm gonna get to a 1/18 scale of my own car. I'm aware that there is a 407 Coupe 1/18. Might get myself one of those if I can find one on the same colour as mine. Not overly fussed as they aren't exactly works of art. The 1/43 scale 407s are selling/being listed for stupid money which I really don't understand. The real ones aren't expensive and not overly desirable.
  19. There are many types of car buyers out there, some groups larger than others. In a sense, buying an old car is a bit of an art, it must be done right and does involve a tad bit of luck too. For us on Autoshite and other such types of old-car nut forums, its made easier by the knowledge accumulated and the cars made available to us. Because of the knowledge and back up we have, we have the confidence to chuck a couple of hundred on an old banger and work on it ourselves or at least understand the issue to bring it back from the brink. The desire of chasing an old unloved thing and bringing it back to rude health is a hobby and a nice challenge in itself, just as much buying something so cheap and running it for as long as you can. Image isn't a consideration, but using knowledge, skills, understanding and having some enthusiasm for it is enough to keep most of us going. Most of the general unwashed though don't have this back up or support structure. Neither do they have the confidence, enthusiasm or desire to buy and older vehicle. For most of the unwashed, whether they admit or it or not, a new/newer car is; • An extension of their perceived success. Image is everything. • An accessory, like jewellery or a handbag to be paraded in front of others. • Less hassle, no worrying about break downs (even though new can often cars do) any issues, chuck it back at the dealer. • Conforming to the image of what others believe you should be. A subconscious decision that is also a main driver behind the desire. Basically, for the great unwashed, understanding the world of cars is a daunting, tedious and odious task. The less they care, the more they can concentrate on preening themselves to create this false image of "look at me, isn't my life great" cars, like handbags, clothes and phones just form a part of that image i.e. the newer, the better. The idea of image transcends the ages, were not talking just about young fashionistas, but also the older "keeping up with the Joneses" types that sadly still exist. The above is example of the types that drive the market the car manufacturers try to tap into hence the popularity of soft-roader "SUV" type vehicles oft-seen on the road today. Another type is what is perceived the "normals" the greige type of people that again, are not car people but buy what they feel is the right car for them and their circumstance. Like above though, the newer the car, the more "reliable" it is perceived to be. Image isn't a high consideration for them although many would only consider a newer car rather than an older one, remember, these are not 'car people' so their knowledgeon cars doesn't exist. Generally as long as the car does what its supposed to do, isn't broken or too old, its fine. Cars to these types are seen as simply white goods, a means to an end. That isn't forgetting the other groups of newer car buyers, some have families and want reliable transport, even some old car nuts still need an everyday don't-care-much-about-it type car to do all the donkey work. However, for a large percentage of the car buying public including most or these groups, the image of an older vehicle is still the same one that they grew up with, the type of car depicted on James Ruppert's book, a multi-coloured rusty old banger pouring out smoke and breaking down every 5 minutes. Older vehicles are not seen in their modern image, which is; just an older version of newer vehicles, reliable old transport built to last a good few hundred thousand miles with minimal outlay. People still see the used car in the image of a 1979 rusty old Vauxhall Viva with cardboard and wob for panels and an engine held together with duct tape. We also live in a throwaway society that sees older stuff as rubbish to be thrown away, its the reason we have charity shops. We probably need charity shops for older cars now. Car too old? Can't be arsed to sell it? Drop keys and paperwork through the letter box, park outside and we'll do the rest.
  20. Is this some sort of strange holiday for old people who watch other old people resting on their holidays? Kind of like a 'people watching' holiday.
  21. Lol. Saferich sounds like a chav greeting on an estate for people called 'Richard' i.e. Safe Rich, *fist bump* wha' ya sayin?
  22. My condolences. Frankly is errr....yeah.... Nice Carlton Sutty! Lucky man. 2200? Also, whats the interior look like, large soft velour armchairs?
  23. So I left my old job last week as speaking to customers was becoming irritating and the pay was quite simply what I called a "child's wage" I've moved into a back office role that is mlstly WFH with a varied attendance into office, my new role it is quite intense with enquiries coming in and these need to completed using a new system I've not used before. Pay is better but 'inside IR35' umbrella. Even with that, its still better than what I got before. However, until today, training has been very ad-hoc, they are training a trainer at the moment, I'm not sure what happened to the last one, the team is fairly new though. My laptop that I was told would be sent last week has still not arrived and today I just learned that IT were still configuring it, my new manager who has been most helpful has asked for it to be done and sent today to be with me tomorrow. There is no structure to the training so I'm not sure what the heck is going on, even another girl who just joined today has her laptop and passwords already. Also, twats on quad bikes, its warm so my windows are open but every now again there always some young arsewipe on a twat bike with the loudest exhaust. Fuck off.
  24. Ja ja! Das sind sehr zuverlässige Autos. Viel Glück. By the way, I don't speak Deutsch, just trying the very little (and cheating) I know. I actually have a 1.43 model Carisma like this: And 3 x wheel trims like this I think:
