    The next project beckons.

Its an early 80`s Panda 4x4. These things have genuinely surprising off-road ability. Its front wheel drive on road, and shoving down a lever by the handbrake engages a dog box bolted to the back of the gearbox which has an extra pinion from the front diff to send power to the rear axle. Mac struts up front and a live axle on coils at the back.

Some assembly required. Engine, box and front suspension are all out and most of the engine bay wiring is out.
I was led to believe by my brother in law that this shell was completely rot free - we were aiming for zero welding for once, just aesthetics and mechanics to sort out.
Well, it is completely rot free apart from the holes in the bottoms of each door skin, the holes in the front valance and the holes around the windscreen.
Its not properly serious grot, but it will need taken care of properly as this is supposed to be a "minter" when finished as they are only going up in value and tidy ones selling for surprisingly high amounts.

No collection thread, I am afraid, just some pics of it at the farm.

You can see my disgraced C2 lurking in the background too.

Some may remember this pic taken earlier this year, when I was younger, at the NEC resto show:

Shortly afterwards, I was very very sad, because I didn't have sufficient funds to purchase it.
I'm overjoyed to be able to announce that this has been rectified today.

Brief update on the Honda that started this thread. .
It was repaired within a few days and immediately pressed into my wife's daily commute  (round trip 110 miles now)

Its been brilliant. Its an easy commuter, runs comfortably at or around the legal limit & returns around 30mpg.
The hardtop is light and dead easy to fit,the softtop effortless , even for her.

Its comfortable at speed & an absolute hoon to drive- when the situation presents itself.

    Recommended.

I've added the 'breakdown truck' currently out front, before you ask.

Its my early 50's Renault Prairie Colorale, bought several years ago. its an absolutely useless piece of chod- but highly endearing.

I'm a newbie so my views are probably not new to you 'seasoned' veterans, but I love reading this forum!

A lot of the cars featured are cars I had 'back in the day' as I was a car dealer and then a part timer for years. I used to love wrenching/faffing about with them and had great fun buing cheap, repairing, then flogging on after my divorce and subsequent skintness.

Nowaday, I'm pretty limited as to what I can do as I broke my back a couple of years ago so working on cars is a definite no-no! I struggle to even wash my own car now and while I want loads of old chod, I'm stuck with new(ish) and get them worked on by .... garages!

    Dire!

Anyway chaps, please carry on buying old crap (which I love) and writing about them so I can live the life through you all.

    Well, now theres the thing.

We have two cars, one good original (albeit yellow and black in colour) one will be made out of two fairly knackered ones retaining the original chassis and engine, but with a body tub off a 1934 car.

That will leave a chassis, running gear and cab - the rear of Ellie Mae's body tub is really really knackered.
Talk of a "pick up" using modern mechanicals took place last night and may not be entirely out of the question for chassis number 2. My lad is going to be involved in the resto process and fancies the idea of the "pick up", it may even keep a sidevalve engine as there is one kicking about the workshop that needs a rebuild (read rusty pile of metal).

A lot depends on how much work chassis number 2 requires. From what I saw last night its in better condition than we first thought, though admittedly its covered in mud so once all the crud is stripped away it may be quite shonky. It didnt flex though whilst being hauled onto a drop side so there is hope.

I'm in the process of de-twatting my volvo 340, This is what it looked like when I bought it,

Stripped out interior which included removal of absolutely everything apart from the front seats and door cards, they removed the centre console, carpets, head lining and even the fucking sunvisors for weight saving...

It was lowered with lowering blocks on the rear and lowering springs on the front, the diff had been welded badly so could've broken at any time.
and just look at those horrid alloys!
Both rear doors were badly dented probably from some failed drifting attempts...

When I went to get the car which was in Sunderland I brought some spare wheels just so I wouldn't have to look at those disgusting wheels ever again.

When I got it home it got destickered and matching wheels.

It still had the welded diff and lowered suspension so I decided to book it in at my local track to see if it was worth trying to drift it...

Even though it was wet the car was still too slow to get the back end out properly and was pretty shit at drifting...

After that I decided I wanted to run it as a daily driver and replace the Renault 18 with it...

The 18 went back to it's previous owner "Nisfan" who is doing a grand job of De-twatting my handiwork and it now looks like this!

    Phwoar!!!

    Back to the 340..
In order to turn the car into a daily driver I needed some parts, luckily "Derskine" had this rusty shitter that I got quite a few bits from.

I got an open diff, standard front springs, rear shocks, doors, full interior including centre console, sun visors and parcel shelf.
