I can't contain my nerdiness and need to report that they aren't. Your's is Nordlicht Blau Perleffect (Aurora Blue Pearlescent) with a light tan interior which I forgot the name of. Great color combo.

Nothing wrong with nerdiness,  thanks for confirming as I forgot the English name for the colour.

I know all the colours for Fords from 1981, that's even more nerdy 😂

When you’ve fixed everything can you arrange to put it up for sale ready for October this year please when I will need a big comfy barge for a few months whilst working again.

    Thanks.

    There's a queue I'm afraid

    Yes quite a long one!

  3. I replaced the battery in my key a few weeks ago. Today the car would not recognise the key, it no longer locks/unlocks and I have to put the key in the ignition to start it (which sometimes does not work either) I'm also getting a message saying the key battery is low. So I replaced with the correct CR2032, Energiser brand with absolutely no difference at all. The key is stone dead with no green flashes when a button is pressed.

I checked the owners manual but couldn't see a key reset procedure. I'm very patient with old cars and expect problems but this one's frustrating as I can't really chance driving anywhere at the moment. I was in a garage that my relationship did not end well with (but my mum still wants to use them) and I could not get the car to start at all as nothing was happening even when turning the key in the ignition. Very embarrassing.

Hopefully I'll find a solution soon!

Never in my life have I found it so hard to buy a 'nice' car with what I consider a reasonable amount of cash to burn. I knew this day would come sooner or later the way the market went in the 2010s, but just about  everything I want basically doesn't exist with a petrol engine and I don't do tractors for all sorts of reasons.  Mercedes E class (There are NO petrol W212s on eBay under £7.5k, in the UK, 200+ diseasels), 3 or 5 series BMWs, Jags, most SUVs are at best 80/20 diseasel. I'll end up buying a fecking Focus  or something... :(

If you don't want a diesel just because of ULEZ you could have had my late Dad's 2017 V40. Not sure what your budget is mind, I was looking for £9,500.

  5. I know Mannol is a perfectly fine oil, but because the chains are at the back of this engine and replacement is not really a viable option on a car of this value, I wanted to be super careful with my choice of oil.

VW spec 507 is low ash so only really important over a longer term if the car had a DPF, which this one does not. So I picked a (slightly cheaper) fully synthetic 5w30 quality oil from Fuchs which I know is a 'known' brand althought not 507 spec. So out came the Mannol and in went 8 litres of Fuchs plus a new filter. I guess the engine has had a flush with clean cheap oil for a few hundred miles. Anyway it's given me peace of mind.

After my holiday I am still running a lot of errands for my mum in connection with stuff to do with my dad and tonight I tried the dynamic setting on the suspension which only comes with Sport models. Not expecting much, the difference is incredible. It really stiffens the car up and transforms the driving experience, giving confidence in the corners (it feels like it's going to fall over in comfort mode on twisty roads). I then used lift mode to go over the 327 speed humps on the road up to my mum's house.

I made a short video of the car and its suspension moving up and down. In the clip it's not that noticeable but in person the car goes from an almost Allroad ride height into something quite sporty!

  6. Grump because my wife phoned and said that some cunt had bumped the A4 in Tesco car park this morning and fucked off.

Not anything like as bad as I was expecting, barely noticeable on fact and it's certainly not the first time this bumper has been bumped anyway. Just as well its an old car.

    All sorted:

    Still looks decent:

The reason she knew someone had bumped the car is because someone else left a note on the windscreen giving the make, model, colour and reg plate of the car that bumped into mine, which was very good of them. I was going to call the police and leave it at that but considering there's no damage done then I'm just going to forget about it.

The rather delayed March 2024 release from Corgi Model Club - the #236 Austin A60 Cambridge Driving School Car.

I've been looking forward to this one.

A chod-tastic choice of subject matter, and really well executed.

Also a fine reminder of the days when a prospective driver was let loose in one of these vast understeering boats with huge overhangs fore and aft, rather than a nice compact Micra with power steering.

The steerable wheels are, of course, the main feature - but it's also a lovely rendering of some prime BMC grey porridge.

Hard to know whether the design impetus was to model a driving school car, or whether it was to create a miniature Cambridge, but the steering was added at a later stage of design for fear it'd be too dull for kiddy tastes otherwise.

The L plates front and back are highly visible, anyway - and the casting was never modified or used for any other Corgi release.

The student and instructor figures inside add a further dash of realism.

While, inside the box, are replicas of some educational matter:

There y'go - a highly abridged 'Junior Highway Code', plus some handy European language vocab.

Still, pretty exciting stuff. It's kinda nice that Corgi continued this theme through the '70s with the Corgi Driving School VW Beetle (including cones), and into the 1980s with the 1/36 scale Triumph Acclaim/ Honda Ballade proclaiming the same.

    Box looks enticing, too.

And the usual facts and figures info card.

At least these cards are easy enough to store, rather than the floppy A4 sized leaflets masquerading as a magazine which accompanied similar partworks sold through newsagents.

    But stay!

I happen to have a moderately knackered original here too.

    IMG_20240415_1516512.jpg.8e5464192a579241e22d924079f94842.jpg

In terms of colour and detail, it's a good match.

Just the underside colouration is a bit different.

    Marvellous. Love it.

This was my most played with car out of all the ones that were given to me by my dad and uncles. It even fitted on my Marchbox Play Track. My example is now on a Corgi Transporter!

    That's....life though.

People should be able to delete their own threads if they see fit, period. They don't need a reason nor should we remove the function.

    Exactly .

We don't need our nappies changed over things like this.

I deleted my own fleet threads because there was little to no interest and it was just taking up bandwidth. But I'd never touch any thread that I created and I can see people care about. Even the LCBL Audi thread as my ownership is just a part of its appreciable history on the forum.

Anyone who isn't grown-up enough to act in this way or is just attention seeking quickly gets flushed out and either ignored or they move on.
