  1. Thats from an auction where it sold for £45k. If I had a time machine..... Oh and £45k
  2. Renault 9. I get a funny feeling in my belly every time I see one.
  3. Think thats maybe the wrong one. Inglewood in Caldy is a mock tudor jobbie and was Malcolm Lowery's home. https://lithub.com/wandering-the-wirral-on-the-literary-influence-of-malcolm-lowrys-childhood-landscape/ https://www.zoopla.co.uk/property-history/114-caldy-road/caldy/wirral/ch48-1lw/31847749/
  4. Yeah, will look at that. Ta. Hopefully the weather doesn't get too bad here to allow me to work on it outside. Had a good break this weekend.
  5. My optimism was premature. Just been out for lunch and I seem to be pissing oil out, I assume from one of the seals I replaced. They were all seated okay, no rolling but the crankshaft one went a lot further back than the one I took out, which seemed odd at the time. I assumed I needed to push it as far as it goes but do I need to put it just at the outer edge? Will have to see where its coming from. Oh well, will just order some new seals and give it another crack next weekend. 😣
  6. Righto. Cambelt changed and the car seems to be working. Had to change all the oil seals too as they were fucked and had a bit of a mare removing some of the pulleys on my own which gave me the fear and I was absolutely convinced I'd fucked it up royally, cue a phone call to Volksy to come over, check everything looked okay before it got started. I think the oil seals were just old, but I'd better clean out the flame trap etc in case its gonna cause some grief. Access looks good. 😂
  7. Including me. I don't even watch it. I just thought, what an odd headline.
  8. It would be weird if she returned as anyone else wouldn't it. If she came back as Grant Mitchell or Arthur Fowler it would probably be confusing for the viewers.
  9. Yeah, they built them in a few places too didn't they. Looking at my chassis number it seems mine was made in Belgium. Normally at this point I'd make some sort of joke about the car related to something Belgium is famous for but I genuinely can't think of anything or anyone interesting to rip into that comes from there. Not a thing.
  10. I want to go for a run but am waiting for the delivery of my parts which are meant to be arriving between 11.59 and 12.59. Was this OMG RANDOM PARTS KAOS common in the 1980s? I've had similar things on more modern VWs being fitted with weird and wonderful alternatives to what was expected but for most of my older cars, it was all pretty standard and simple to figure out what car had what parts. I remember the old Audi 100 'Auschwitz' (big, white, German, runs on gas) having a totally random carb on it but after a bit of investigation we figured out it was after @Lankytim had found it on a scrap Audi 80 which we assume must've been imported from South Africa, hence it having a carb that wasn't available over here. Most of the time, parts were pretty uniform. It just strikes me as being very expensive for Volvo. It's 13.06 now. Might need to hang fire on the run.
  11. Will clean these out then, ta for the heads up. Not going to look for the brakes sticker yet as don't want to depress myself when I find out I've got some random overly complicated system that was only used for 2 weeks and parts can only be collected in person from a specialist supplier in Sweden or something. 😱
  12. Ordered lots of bits and bobs along with the crank shaft holding tool today. Will arrive in the next couple of days. Already have the cambelt and tensioner. Just need some good weather to allow me to get on with it. Sensationalist nonsense. Sure it'll be fine
  13. Undoubtedly mine won't have been and will start playing up as I begin to use the car. Assume its these pipes. Might look at blanking them off in the summer if it doesn't cause me any grief before then.
  14. ZIONKS!!!! There isn't a sticker there and it's not come off on the back of the one I pulled either. I'd read somewhere on one of the Volvo forums before I collected it that all 8 valve non interference but it was just some guy replying to some other guy and was probably talking bollocks.😄 Looking at the code on the head it's 1000631 which google suggests is indeed a B230K and according to some guy talking to some other guy on a Volvo forum suggests is interference as Tim suggested. Well, that put things in a different perspective. At least it didn't go on the way down, what you don't know doesn't hurt you, ignorance is bliss etc.
  15. Does anyone have any recommendations for part suppliers for these? I've found Brookhouse Volvo but their website keeps crashing, so will just ring them up tomorrow. Managed to get a cambelt kit (well, just a belt and tensioner) from my local-ish motor factors but could probably do with a few other bits and bobs as I've no idea if the seals are leaking and need replacing yet. I'm also not 100% sure which engine I have. I followed this guide as best I cold against the VIN but it doesn't really work with mine using these pages: https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/700ModelData.html#VehicleIdentificationNumberCoding https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/700ModelData.html#VehicleIdentificationNumberCoding It would suggest that I have a B230FD which sounds wrong as I think that is injected, not carbed.
  16. I was trying to find them yesterday but to no avail. Looking on Google Maps in 2009 they were here: But were gone by 2010: Unless they moved?
  17. Maybe whatever they had lying around on that particular day eh?
  18. It's the first manual Volvo I've owned. TBH it's okay. I have to admit though, I've not owned many manuals over the last few years and the ones I have were modern and I'm not counting/listening to what gear I'm in and was looking at the dash to see if I needed to switch up or not. It's like we don't need to remember phone numbers anymore. Terrible habit to have got into on cars though. Sure I'll get back into the swing of it though and the stick has a fair bit of movement so you can kind of see whereabouts it is. From reading online before I saw it, I actually thought that these should be 4 speed plus overdrive but it's a proper 5 speed. Volksy said the same. I wondered if it had a newer gearbox fitted but the original for sale ad said it was 5 speed so it's maybe a cross over.
  19. It's ace isn't it. Probably not great if you don't like blue, as there's a LOT of it but thankfully I do, so its a win.
  20. Going through the history I found the address of the person who bought it from new so looked it up on Google maps. I know it was only a GL but I was still expecting a 1970s build like Martin and Ann's house in Ever Decreasing Circles or something when it was brand new. Maybe not a full on architect with this spec but certainly a fairly senior manager at the photocopier company. 🤣 I also noticed on that first MOT certificate that the mileage was a whopping 72,450 in the first 3 years of it's life, increasing to 78,000 by the time it was sold to the chap I got it from. Think it's on just over 165k now so has averaged around 2,700 a year since then. The journey down from South Shields to mine could well have been the longest journey it's been on for decades.
  21. Made it back absolutely fine. I was 99% sure it would, the only thing on the back of my mind was this: Look closer: Closer still: Probably needs doing as a priority but it's a non interference OMG IT IS INTERFERENCE so it's not a massive disaster if it goes but I'm going to get it done as soon as possible anyhow to avoid being stranded somewhere. The car happily cruised at 70(ish) all the way back. Slight pull to the left and the thrust bearing squealed a couple of times when changing gear driving uphill but it was a really good uneventful journey. The car is really nice. The last owner bought it when it was 4 years old. Unfortunately he died last October and I got it from his neighbour who was dealing with the both the estate and the estate. I rang up last week after seeing it on the Ebay tat thread and arranged to go and see it the following day. It's got a fair few repairs on it in a slightly different colour: but has been completely undersealed and is in pretty good condition overall, just a few bits of rust bubbling up in the usual places. Came with a fair few spares too. The exhaust on it is new but there seems to be a full one or nearly a full one with it, so may look at selling it depending on how much they go for. Also some roof bars I doubt I'll use as it's already got a tow bar and a massive boot. Interior is in good condition: The previous owner had put some blue carpet all through it: The carpets are nice underneath though. It's still got it's last paper tax disc in the window There's not a huge amount of history as he did all the work himself but there is all the old MOTs going back years and a few invoices for bits and bobs: and the original for sale advert: And the V5 from where he bought it saying that it was originally owned by 'Preston, Hawes and Walker' in Carshalton. Don't think they're there anymore from a quick google. All in all it seems a nice car and I'm looking forward to smoking around in it.
  22. Collected. Thanks to @TheIsleofShite for putting this on the ebay tat thread. Now to see if it makes it home.
  23. I'm sure you will rectify that situation shortly.
