  1. I've only just recently thrown away the used head gasket and cambelt from my old Rover 45 which I got rid of, erm, 5 years ago.. what the obsession is with keeping old parts - I don't know! What I thought I was going to do with a used, failed (obviously, K Series innit 😅) head gasket - I don't know either! I did also keep some fucked power steering pipes for a couple of years, but they did actually come in useful recently for something else! I'm just a bit of a hoarder, but I like to call it "being resourceful"
  2. I've definitely* not** done that before... Whereby it all ended up in the bin when I realized I was never going to use it, and nobody wanted to buy any of it 😅 ECP were clearing out Citroen Saxo handbrake cables a good few years ago, they were something silly like £1 or £2. It was a time when they were just about starting to vanish off the roads but we were still seeing plenty come through the workshop so thought it would be a good idea to keep stock of a few... Obviously we began to look after fewer and fewer Citroen saxos to the point I can only think of 1 that remains in our customer base to this day. Said handbrake cables were eventually binned recently to make way for more useful items to keep in stock 😅
  3. Trade only m7 I think the prices are account specific. Looking on the retail site they don't actually show stock of anything
  4. Weirdly the other side is £27 🤔 (plus vat...) Still very cheap but not enough for me to buy it just for that reason There's apparently 1 more left hand one in stock for £3.. I'm tempted to get it as a spare.. and keep the original as a spare 😅 Also there's a complete lower arm listed for £2.50!
  5. The Xsara Picasso needed a new door mirror. Well, it didn't need one but I wanted one because the cover was in primer from the previous owner (as if I was ever going to get around to painting it 🤣) and the electronic adjustment is knackered. Since it's the passenger one, it's not easy to adjust it to the desired position from the driver's seat just by pushing on the glass. You get my gist... Thought I'd have a look around for a replacement, I couldn't find any second hand ones in the same colour, only powerfold ones which have a different connector Thought I'd check ECP, about £60-70 + VAT in black.. Hmmm.. GSF? Well, this is the grin... £3 Yes, THREE Great British Pounds! Plus the dreaded VAT... Which made it a whopping £3.60 grumble grumble grumble There was no photo on the (trade) site so I was half expecting just a mirror glass to turn up, but no, they've sent me an electric, heated complete door mirror assembly for three quid! What a bargain for a skinflint like me 😅 It's black, which I think will look better than primer and since the car is navy blue it's a pretty inoffensive colour contrast anyway, better than a red second hand one which I'd have to paint or try to swap the covers over TLDR; clearance parts for the win 😅
  6. Just a heads up for you incase you don't know on these, it's worth pulling up the passenger carpet and checking the CCM (comfort/convenience control module) is dry and that there is no water ingress in there. If there is, then dry it out at the very least before it's too late! The CCM is not unique to the cabriolet in itself, but they are not interchangeable with the much cheaper units available from hatch models. Water entry into the passenger footwell is very common and it predictably nukes that module and causes all the roof, window and locking electrics to malfunction and leaves the doors deadlocked, the glovebox lock motor to run constantly and drain the battery, etc etc. Stuff you don't want to happen Second hand units are rare, and very expensive when they do come up. (£2/300) Brand new they are eye wateringly expensive. I can't remember exactly but I want to say £500 or £800!? So it's well worth firstly checking your module for any signs of damp, and grabbing the part number off it while you're at it to maybe keep an eye out for an underpriced second hand one from a breaker to keep as a spare if the car is a keeper Hope that helps!
  7. Not bad just to have that one advisory! Definitely worth checking the front brake hose ferrules a bit more closely when you've next got the wheel off. They're a bit hidden from view from the MOT tester but I've quite often found them to be in terrible condition and rotten to nothing if looking closer, with the wheel off and protective cover peeled back. Especially in that there Scotland!
  8. Ah, I got that wrong then! What did I say 😅 I would have seen the badge if I scrolled up a bit 🤣 308s of that era also have the same setup as the 207 anyway Only when the new shape came along with electronic handbrake did they finally ditch it. Does the passenger window work from the passenger switch? I assume so?
  9. This is a 207 isn't it? I always get them confused even by looking at them 😅 They have a wheel bearing, ABS reluctor (sperate from wheel bearing), wheel hub and disc combined unit on the back. It's a bit of a pain because it means a disc and pad change is expensive! However I've never seen a reluctor ring fail on these, probably because it's not part of the wheel bearing and it's not subjected to corrosion like an old fashioned toothed ring Usually they will flag up a code for "no signal from x wheel" when it reads zero, rather than a sensor circuit code. Not sure exactly why but it's just one of their many eccentricities The sensor air gap mainly has an effect at higher speeds. Obviously it could be a wiring fault but if you scan it for codes and check live data I imagine you'll find it's a sensor that's died Hopefully you can make out the magnetic pickup behind the hub, around the stub axle/bearing hole (technical term need not apply)
  10. I don't think so unfortunately, thats the same as modern Berlingos and C4GPs as well, anything with the design of sensor that hovers over the pickup rather than inserted into the bore tends to flag up above 25mph or so in my experience? If it's coming on immediately after moving then that would suggest to me that one of the sensors has gone completely dead
  11. Yes that's cambelt, but a very old one I must add! INA stickers haven't looked like that for quite a while Probably just helps you decide its a case of roulette 😬
  12. He just hasn't got as far as "cleaning" the tape off them 😉😂
  13. You could always use an Amstrad emailer or fax machine to contact the DVLA and ask? Don't forget to include a cheque for £23. No, I'll never stop taking the piss out of the DVLA and their outdated processes and reliance on cheques and postal orders 🤣
  14. I have an app called "know your car" and it pings a notification to your phone pretty much the second the test gets logged off
  15. You might be surprised, I'm not sure if I'm in a minority here but, for some reason, I definitely still have all the paperwork for cars which I know were scrapped 10-15 years ago. It's all stuff that the previous owners have gone to the trouble of keeping, it's part of my "motoring history" (as sad as that may sound when I'm talking about wheel cylinders being replaced for the previous owner of my Daewoo Tacuma in 2007...) - it just feels wrong to throw it all away!? Just in case I ever want to look back on it... 😅
  16. I'm wondering if they base their pricing off whenever the tabloids flip-flop between USED CAR PRICES PLUMMETING and OMGEXPENSIVEUSEDCARS..
  17. That's one of the beauties of these, if the tensioner or water pump lets go near enough idle speed then they'll usually conk out due to losing timing before any catastrophic damage occurs.
  18. According to the gov tax checker, a v5 was issued in December 2023, which would suggest maybe it's changed keeper again since October? I just can't fathom why someone would go to the trouble of buying a car like that, and just drive it straight to the scrap yard when they're done with it. The guy in the video claims it drove there. It starts on video, the suspension seemed to be all working?
  19. I saw this video and thought the reg rang a bell...
  20. Another MK2 sill welded up on the cheap 😇 Those rear anti roll bar links never seem to get bad enough to fail an MOT, they make quite a noise though when they go
  21. Cor, must be a bargain, price slashed to £1000 from £1700.... "Here we have an unrecorded accident on a Hyundai i30, vehicle run starts and drives" You don't say... Shall we just ignore the completely fucked, bent offside rear suspension based on the position of that wheel? Twat 🤣
