    Thank you very much.
I guess I had to plan and then plan my plans in order to get the pieces to fit.
I also have a complete, (disposed of, due to vandalism/theft) truck curtainside that hooks into hooks on the front bearer of the roof, thus closing the front in if needed.

I am a big “recycler” as in, I am tight and always happy to collect “free cash” so the build was a lot less than if I just called in a builder to do the job.

A pallet and half of breeze blocks became building materials for a friend and I used a few to carve ornaments from.

    Free cash……..

I do love cheap, nasty bottom feeders.

I spent £1700.00 just in parts on getting this one fully safe, MOT’d and being a good fun drive.

i sold it as white with orange stripes,,new guy went Stranger Things on it and made money from hiring it out.

last time it sold iirc for£8800.00 and has been used on BBC telly in the programme Sandman. Minus the lights etc.

Just looked it up, there was such a thing as an XRV, every day is a school day. The XR2/3 was a bit limp anyway, imagine the indignity of a Cosworth badge of fucking everything like they’ve admittedly done on the ST. The M badge would have been about ‘equivalent’ to Cosworth in the range. Anyway I’ll shut up about it now, I can see it’s wounded enough pride by saying the M sport is anything but an absolute pedigree motorcar.

For all you boys arguing about the M badge, there is only way to have an exclusive top of the range BMW and that is to get one with a name that starts with an A.

The Mistubishi Carisma had an "Elegance" trim level. A double fail, as it was neither charismatic nor elegant.

I think the phrase is called brand accessibility. Someone at work announced they’d just got a BMW M3, turns out it’s actually the 320d with some M Sport badges on. I’m just glad Ford never went down the road of sticking a Cosworth badge on a Fiesta 1.1 so that nobody would feel left out. 😂

Despite that we've had that, Diesel is a clothing brand, what seems to sell aftershave too, but clearly they missed the fucking point with that particular spurious tie in.  They really should have gone the whole hog and sponsored Tesla

Carl1981 reacted to danthecapriman in How many here daily their classic motor?
There’s no reason many classic cars can’t be used as a daily driver, they were used for that when they were new or just old bangers etc. what causes the worst reliability issues is trying to daily a car that’s spent the last few years/decades as a weekend toy! Pushing it back into being used more intensively, in traffic, crap weather etc is what makes parts fail! That part might have been fine and lasted years with light use but daily driving will undoubtedly cause some things to fail. Once you get those niggles sorted though, why not.
I used to daily drive my classics (including the Capri) all year round, and while they can do the job, you absolutely must keep them looked after - washed regularly in winter, undersealed well, grease points etc regularly topped up, serviced often etc etc. If you don’t you’re inviting reliability issues.

    Would I do it now?
No fucking way! I’ve got no doubt about a classic’s mechanical reliability, even if that does mean spending more time looking after things, but it’s the winter weather and road salt that’s the killer! I’m simply not willing to have a nice solid car subjected to that shit again! The British winter is a truly grim time of year (humans would honestly be better hibernating through it imho!) and the constant rain, wind and cold fucks everything up, the wet, damp and salty roads will destroy the undersides in no time, even with undersealing it’s only a matt of time. Then you get the leaks most old cars inevitably have, shitty heaters, poor lights, steaming up windows… the novelty really does wear off quickly in winter.
If it was me, I’d use a classic for spring & summer use. For bad weather and through winter I’d get something newer. If you want an interesting car there’s still plenty of 80’s and 90’s classics that are well up to the job of daily winter use. I’d happily jump in my 740 and daily it through winter - great seats, reliable, comfy, doesn’t steam up constantly, heater & lights are good and it’s pretty well resistant to rusting.

Well… is the M something hallowed and sacred? It’s hardly an evocative name tag, just a moniker BMW slaps on any sport oriented top of the line model. An M3 is just a 3-series coming off the same production line with a larger engine and suspension upgrades, it’s hardly built by hand by old men with white coats and lead hammers somewhere in Italy.

The «M sport» or «S line» or «AMG line» is simply an options package giving you a mildly sportier car with a standard engine. Few are ever going to confuse them with the OMG PROPPA MOTAHSPOAWWT M cars. Or, you know, two and a half tonne M suvs.
As for AMGs not being AMGs without a 6,2 litre V8… you better tell AMG then, they are busy desecrating themselves with 2-litre i4 turbos.
Sorry, but the «cheap knockoff copies» line is just weird inverted snobbery.
You could buy pretty much the entire RS catalogue part by part for your billy basic Escort in 1975, does that make an original Escort RS1600 BDA worthless, then?

Václav Laurin and Václav Klement were the founders of what became Škoda. Started under their own name in 1895 and we're bought by Škoda who at the time were a big industrial engineering company who didn't make cars, and renamed Škoda Auto.
Not interesting or funny but true.

This is actually Klement and Laurin.

You'd think they'd always make sure they were stood the right way round, like Ant and Dec.

I recently joined here after lurking for a long while. I’ve enjoyed reading and admired some of the skill and perseverance in the restoration threads, but what I’ve really enjoyed about this community is the acceptance of any and every make and model in any and every condition. I am a serial buyer of shite cars that no-one else wants, I regularly spend too much saving something that no-one else would have saved. I love the rubbish motors that littered the streets when I was growing up in 1980’s brum (rotten old Austin’s and Rover’s, equally rotten old fords and the occasional Jag! Oh and my Dad’s canary yellow Skoda 120 GLS) so I thought I should fit right in here!
My history of car ownership started when I was 15, back in about 1996, with a 3 door Ford Escrot estate. Then an orange Metrot MK1 that I saved, sold and bought back to save again. There were lots of Metro’s and Escort’s and Fiesta’s in the early days (Fiesta's always ended up being referred to as Fiestangs!). A couple of Rover’s and then a brief fling with the french when I had a bit more money to spend! I’ve had several Xantias over the years as well as a 406 coupe and a few french hatch backs. In all, I think I’ve had about 30 cars now and have loved them all in one way or another!
Having only recently joined, I’ve decided to start a thread about my own fleet of classics shite. I’m always tinkering with one car or another and that will either be interesting to you guys or it won’t! I’m only really going to talk about the old and shitey cars that are still with me, and I'm going to stick them all in this one thread or you’d probably be bored to death!
The main thing is, like many I’ve read about here, old cars make me happy. I enjoy learning new skills, having those skills tested, meeting new people and experiencing new and different things. Old cars are something that I do because I want to and it makes me happy (most of the time), not because I have to or need to.
