Does speeding abroad affect your licence and so you tell your insurance company ? I assume you do if it’s your own car but if it’s a hire car? I got caught speeding in road works in Canada years ago almost as soon as I left the airport (Calgary) in a hire car. I was really surprised because I thought I was going slowly due to 1. getting off a 9 hour flight 2. trying to find my way and 3 the road works, but Hertz paid it on my behalf with my credit card number, so I had no choice. I never told my insurance or the DVLA though.
  3. I’ve heard people describe their old car as a “shed” , but never says it’s literally a shed.
  4. Texaco is pretty rare these days. Used to be loads.
  5. I’d rather risk the horsey lasagne than Linda McCartney’s vegetarian range. The sausages just taste like cardboard tubes.
  6. Can you imagine Marcus Rashford’s reaction if he was given a Ford Puma? (Geoff Hurst not quite Woolarding)
  7. Everyone seems to be forgetting you only get max power ( which everyone says their car has), at ~6000rpm and no one drives around at 6000rpm ( well I know a couple of pensioners that do but that’s a different matter). So cruising down the motorway at 2500rpm you’re getting about half that. Also In sure I’m not the only one who remembers when 100bhp was considered pretty impressive. My Dad had a couple of 2litre Cortinas , I think they were 98bhp and felt fast, and then got a 2.3 which had a massive 116bhp. 3 litre Capris only had about 140, as did the 3.5l Rover. The original mk1 Golf GTi had 110.
  8. At least you won’t lose half a day of your life being talked to as if you’re a moron.
  9. At first glance , I thought that was an anagram of swastika.
  10. It’s sunny here in Scotland too. It won’t be in 10 minutes time but probably will be again within the hour.
  11. It’s “special needs” these days , not “retard”.
  12. My Dad had a mk4 (T reg) same model and colour . 45 years ago ffs!
  13. Do buses actually have any springs? The ones round here seem to have a rigid link between the body any the wheels. The whole bus shakes at every bump or pot hole , so every 50 m. Also are bus drivers told not to ease off the brake under any circumstances. ( you know the jolting stop when you leave your foot planted on the brake pedal.) They ALL do that ffs!
  14. I thought that. The current prices probably reflect the vast increase in labour rates since then. I don’t suppose the skilled craftsmen are relatively much better off , but it’s probably more due to overheads especially energy.
  15. Buses. At least trains have their own track buses get stuck in traffic like cars. Bicycles or even motorbikes when it’s raining. Cycling on a road - you might as well get in touch with Dignitas . Ditto mountain biking. Ships if the sea is rough , planes in bad weather. Planes in general,( unless you can travel business class or 1st), more cramped than trains and you’re generally on them longer. Dog sled. Shit flying into your face. Any form of horse transport. Hot air balloons . No control over where you’re going. Badly constructed mini subs (too soon?) Any form of sliding on snow or ice. Accident waiting to happen.
  16. Just done my shopping in Sainsburys . Leg of lamb, beef joint, loads of veg, big jar of gold blend and a few other bits and pieces. First they sent me a £4 off coupon if you spent £30. Then some silly nectar points prices (15p for some veg), followed by 20% staff discount for the bank holiday. Then found out my nectar card ( rescued from filler spreading duty) had £25 on it. Total spend just over £2. What cost of living crisis?
  17. No she’s annoyed because it’s an SUV. I bet she would ignore a large estate car that is actually as big (apart from the height but I’m pretty sure we’re ok for space in that direction.
  18. That looks like a young dog to me. I’d like to see that again when it’s grown up.
  19. WTF was that all about back then? You didn’t watch ITV because it was too common or corrupting or something.
  20. Can anyone tell me the address of any of these garages with these young lady mechanics?
  21. That survived the crash well*. Probably didn’t matter because the occupants were jettisoned on impact.
