I hope all went to plan today. That is a great photo and using your car I think was a lovely touch. It will have been a tough day, I know but I think you’re right, keeping busy is probably best. I’m still struggling to acknowledge that mine have both gone now and just keep myself very busy with work. Haven’t really got my car mojo back yet. Best wishes to you and yours.

Brilliant, thank you. My Dad had 3 Cortinas from new, company cars. His boss borrowed his Mk5 for a couple of weeks, as he needed an estate., so Dad got he boss’s car. We thought the boss’s crystal green (?) 2.0 Ghia auto saloon was the dogs watsits with sunroof! Dad thought his 1.6 Auto estate was livelier. Maybe better sound insulation gave false pretension? Anyway, love Cortinas and hope to sort mine or will move it on.

I’m not so sure the Chinese sorted the problem. I have a colleague who is from Cuba. Cuba did a deal with China for a load of MG6s to be used as taxis and undoubtedly the most modern cars in the country. He went home to visit his mother just prior to Covid and brought a suitcase full of head gaskets with him, as so many were off the road. The people there are on their knees with empty shops and 6 hour now up to 12 hours a day power cuts but the older ones are all brainwashed and believe Castro’s promises that things are looking up. Government claim there is no inflation as petrol is still only $1 but the pumps are dry and you can only get fuel on the black market. The tourism collapse thanks to Trump has decimated their income.

Would love to see some pics of your Crayford . Problems with mine are paintwork and it being generally heavy and not nice to drive. I’ve driven another, so I know it’s not just me forgetting how they drive after 30 years since my last. The real problem is me I reckon. Physically not able to do much these days, which has come rather earlier than I expected. Still, I hope to make some progress with it this year.

Not a Mk3 Cortina! Keep seeing this advertised as one.

My sister in law had one back in the nineties, a three speed auto. We borrowed it once, when I was between cars briefly, to go from Reading to Glasgow and back. It covered that no problem at all and didn’t miss a beat. Rot got it in the end but was sold to the owner of the Mitsubishi dealer, who said he was going to restore it. No idea whether that happened or not and can’t remember the reg. It was a dark blue metallic 5 door, C reg. Well bought!

My sister had one of these new when she lived in Florida back in the late nineties/early noughties. 3 speed auto iirc. No excuse for that, even in those days most autos were 4 speed. Shit not shite I think.

Door cards are GL, no centre armrest or rev counter and Y reg Ghia would have electric mirrors.

Nice but looks like a GL to me, with Ghia seats, wheels and badges stuck on.
