  1. Mrs W shared a Fiesta popular plus, C416PAN, with her sister when we started going out 33 years ago. I say shared but neither of them ever drove it. Myself and her sister’s then BF were the only ones to use it, as they were too scared to drive and the road users of the time should be grateful! No idea how they passed. I fixed this by taking them out in an automatic. Cured Mrs W and she’s now pretty competent, in an auto but her sister still only drives within 5 mile radius, also in an automatic. Got their mum on the road too, in an auto, as their dad never drove. Not so sure that was a good thing😬

Radio in the 205 had been acting up,so decided to replace it with this Top quality* two knob Harrier that I'd bought at a boot sale the last time I was in Norfolk for not very much.

    It only works 😁

    Looks period correct too.

    Chuffed!

Aye I'd agree with that statement. The Mondeo was more appealing inside, but the Vectra had those mirrors, and does the "a car" thing quite well for me.

And it will for a long time to come. I had a brand new Mondeo Mk3 at the time and was given a new Vectra as a loan car when the Mondeo went in for accident repair (not my doing!), so could compare them directly. I have to admit, the Vectra felt more “solid” and better built but the Mondeo was a far better drive. I was disappointed, as I had the Senator even then and had hoped for better from the Vectra. Still, great to see yours still going strong!

It's a shame the same can't be said of the current range , we didn't bring any onto the fleet last year , still got Grandlands and Crossland off the road for engines and gearboxes , the amount of times I've seen " Low oil pressure " on a Vauxhall dashs in the last few years

Indeed, I think the Mk 3 Cavalier, Carlton and Senator were Vauxhalls at their peak. All down hill since unfortunately, although @AnnoyingPentium’s Vectra should probably be allowed into this club too but only just🙂 as the Mondeo was better.

My Dads dad died when I was 5 months old , old school farmer , apparently talked with a cigarette in the corner of his mouth , I have a pair of his gold cufflinks which must be over 60 years old

Really sorry I missed your post before, please forgive me.
I found some cufflinks of my Dad’s, engraved for his 21st birthday with his initials and the date. I’ve polished them up and given them to my sister.

    Deffo the Senator.

Give a really good run out and the weather seems ok at the moment too so take advantage of that! It’ll probably do the car a world of good.

Id offer help but I’m in the opposite direction😄

Thanks Dan, I know you’re the wrong end of my destination. Let’s hope the weather is even better  next month.

I’m really keen to do this, Mrs W will no doubt disagree but I’ll service it and get a new MOT and take it from there.  No promises but could be fun.

I'd take the Senator. Gives a good chance to blow out some cobwebs and that. I say this, as a man who has done 10,000 miles in a 25 year old Vectra in 6 months.

If it goes a bit pear shaped anywhere between the Scottish border and Glasgow give me a shout and I'll try and be of help.

Cheers Ryan, I’m starting to form a plan. 10k in the Vectra is impressive! They’re not that far apart.

  8. Missing my Mum and Dad massively at the moment but have to go back up to their house next month to sort more stuff to get it up for sale.

Am I mad in thinking of taking the Senator? It has done the journey many times in the past but has only done 500 miles since it’s recommissioning. It’s the only car I have that both my parents have been in, so I’m probably being over sentimental. It won’t be my last visit to the house, as I’ll need to go with a van to take furniture.

So, is it too risky to take the Senny, or how many of you are willing to help if it goes tits up on route?

I would, of course, post photos of the journeys progress🙂

found an icelandair on the way back 200 quid

but its a 767 (least its not a 757 like last time)

usually use aer fungus cos far cheaper to start in dublin - evern with ryanscare flight first - or even the bike - have been in ireland when the flight happened left bike there and out from dub - cos got two days first might nip over fart about then fly out - and they dont mind you parking in the multistorey - the only airport in uk that wont let you park in their car parks for free

Sorry, trying to interpret this but, are you saying Dublin is in the UK?

These cheap shitty cables have given me nothing but trouble, and the site I'm working at is full of the fucking things.

The connectors are so shitty that it was causing my tester to fail them, cue:

    Earth cont: Fail.

    *jiggle connector*

    Earth cont: Pass

Oh good, I'll just double check it...

    Earth cont: Fail

Gets a bit boring after the fiftieth time!

Yep, PAT testing is such fun*

Love those low spec Carltons, they give off the air of being just being an oversized Cavalier rather than 'exec transport'.

Dad had a D reg,  black 1.8L automatic, his last company car. In 1988 he asked me to drop him at the airport, Glasgow, as he had a meeting in London. I also had a job interview that morning and felt proper guilty after dropping him off, then pulling up outside the job centre in Johnstone, suited and booted, to run in, sign on and drive off, with many people looking at me thinking, cunt!

All of my tools are at my unit and I can't get there until probably saturday (maybe even not until next saturday) and I need/want to get these sorted by the weekend.

I think I maybe have a normal hammer somewhere, which would be both better and worse at the same time.

I can only assume the Halfords and other "proper" brands that sell what look to be identical shelving must actually be a bit better made

I would use a piece of wood between metal and hammer if no mallet available.
