  1. I’m pretty sure there was but that’s clearly not and therefore even better.
  2. Mrs W shared a Fiesta popular plus, C416PAN, with her sister when we started going out 33 years ago. I say shared but neither of them ever drove it. Myself and her sister’s then BF were the only ones to use it, as they were too scared to drive and the road users of the time should be grateful! No idea how they passed. I fixed this by taking them out in an automatic. Cured Mrs W and she’s now pretty competent, in an auto but her sister still only drives within 5 mile radius, also in an automatic. Got their mum on the road too, in an auto, as their dad never drove. Not so sure that was a good thing😬
  3. Shame but I hope they find good homes and best wishes to you.
  4. I bought one those about 1987!
  5. Have this evening moved the illegally parked Bini to safety, I hope. Battery on charge all weekend and 10 litres of fresh fuel. Even getting the battery in and out is a pain in the arse on these ffs! To be fair though, after what must be 18 months at least, it did start first push of the button. Didn’t want to move though, much smoke from the clutch due to stuck brakes.
  6. Brilliant, thanks! I’ve just run the plan past Mrs W and she’s ok with it. So operation Senator back to Scotland begins!
  7. And it will for a long time to come. I had a brand new Mondeo Mk3 at the time and was given a new Vectra as a loan car when the Mondeo went in for accident repair (not my doing!), so could compare them directly. I have to admit, the Vectra felt more “solid” and better built but the Mondeo was a far better drive. I was disappointed, as I had the Senator even then and had hoped for better from the Vectra. Still, great to see yours still going strong!
  8. Indeed, I think the Mk 3 Cavalier, Carlton and Senator were Vauxhalls at their peak. All down hill since unfortunately, although @AnnoyingPentium’s Vectra should probably be allowed into this club too but only just🙂 as the Mondeo was better.
  9. Thanks and, yes, was always worried by a Senator in the rear view mirror back in the day. Looking quite likely that I’ll do this but will need some prep first.
  10. Really sorry I missed your post before, please forgive me. I found some cufflinks of my Dad’s, engraved for his 21st birthday with his initials and the date. I’ve polished them up and given them to my sister.
  11. Thanks Dan, I know you’re the wrong end of my destination. Let’s hope the weather is even better next month. I’m really keen to do this, Mrs W will no doubt disagree but I’ll service it and get a new MOT and take it from there. No promises but could be fun.
  12. Cheers Ryan, I’m starting to form a plan. 10k in the Vectra is impressive! They’re not that far apart.
  13. Missing my Mum and Dad massively at the moment but have to go back up to their house next month to sort more stuff to get it up for sale. Am I mad in thinking of taking the Senator? It has done the journey many times in the past but has only done 500 miles since it’s recommissioning. It’s the only car I have that both my parents have been in, so I’m probably being over sentimental. It won’t be my last visit to the house, as I’ll need to go with a van to take furniture. So, is it too risky to take the Senny, or how many of you are willing to help if it goes tits up on route? I would, of course, post photos of the journeys progress🙂
  14. Wow! That’s a rare beast indeed.
  15. Sorry, trying to interpret this but, are you saying Dublin is in the UK?
  16. Yep, PAT testing is such fun*
  17. Dad had a D reg, black 1.8L automatic, his last company car. In 1988 he asked me to drop him at the airport, Glasgow, as he had a meeting in London. I also had a job interview that morning and felt proper guilty after dropping him off, then pulling up outside the job centre in Johnstone, suited and booted, to run in, sign on and drive off, with many people looking at me thinking, cunt!
  18. I would use a piece of wood between metal and hammer if no mallet available.
  19. I remember pounding these up the M6 when new! Brilliant work, fabulous car, love it!
  20. First classic drive, brilliant! Glad you enjoyed it, sounds like a great day out.
  21. Fantastic, how did you get on?
