  1. Aye it's not a bad price. I've seen the work he's done, and he used to weld up my Mum's Jap Scrap back in the day too. It was always done to a good standard. Only jobs I've had done by him is a mirror cover being filled and then resprayed after it was hit by a bus, and the standard of work was excellent. 👍
  2. I believe I've written this wrong, or the wrong way about... The indicated 70 on the car is actually 61 or thereabouts, it reads over considerably. Or did, I've since sorted it.
  3. Considering when the speedo says 70 on mine and the actual speed is 61... 😂
  4. Aye makes a change from the SRIs and GSIs being saved. Frankly, I'm loving having this one, I'm never one for a sporting model of a car so this slots in nicely... Although that white pre-facelift 2.0 SRI that was floating about on Facebook some time ago I'd do bad, bad, bad things for. I digress. That Maestro of yours, it's a strange yin, but oddly a very attractive prospect (although I'd like to state for the record that I don't want it! ).
  5. As per @JMotor's thread of associated Vauxhallery and BL pain, I stopped by today to have him swear at my car for a bit while changing a cam sensor for me. The car runs a lot sweeter now, didn't quite realise how much the limp mode was impacting it, besides having to change up far too early, as it'd headbutt a limiter at ~4500rpm. Can go up hills without having to change gear now too. It's a nice touch, to be able to actually move this lump of metal out of the way a bit quicker. Oh, and we got some photies of our varying degrees of 90s/00s giffer. Also, note to self, make sure @JMotor isn't in charge of valet parking. Stopped at a bit on the way home, just like I did with the Skoda, and took this as well. Once driven, forever smitten, and aw that. Few more jobs on the cards yet for this, and the Skoda. No rust/rest (delete as appropriate) for the wicked.
  6. Cheers Al, and I don't have to ask her - that's what she brought me up on.
  7. Update - it survived the cauld. Further update - death rings aff. That 2001 Michelin wasn't far off bombing itself. Smooth as butter now with some Falken All-Seasons on it. Farthest update - spoke to one of the guys at the bodywork place who have done jobs for me in the past. Quoted £250 for replacing the whole rear arch plus paint to get rid of the crusty section. Won't argue with that. As a result, the car will be going for the work in a few weeks. In the meantime (Spacehog intensifies), I've paid a man to valet it. Ex-Arnie Shark colleague did the job for me. It's perhaps the cleanest Vectra B I've ever seen now. Overall, not bad. Needs a few wee things to tidy it up, like a replacement centre cap for that rear wheel, the rust tended to, and I'm going to look into some replica dealer plates as those ones are just starting to delaminate. Beyond that, I'll be laying it up sometime in November and the Skoda can take over until March or so, hopefully. If anyone is interested in the goings on with the Skoda, then I'll put another post up on the 'adventures' thread at some point, but for now it's just plodding on as usual.
  8. I've had this with one of the cars, where a dodgy pre-cat sensor would cut fuelling to engine forcing it to switch off. It also used to send the idle into a mad frenzy hovering between 500 and 1500rpm. It wasn't a Renault or anything like that, but it's something to consider.
  9. Will tidy up the visible rust then pull it apart in behind liners and suchlike to make sure it's all still metal. Your experience with that last one very nearly put me off buying one, but not enough to stop me completely 😂
  10. @RoverFolkUs you can calm yer jets now, Aero shite wipers are OFF. They disintegrated as I removed them, they've been there a while. Wasn't happy with the wash yesterday as there was still a fine layer of dirt on it, so a sponge was applied, and later cleaned the windows. A lot better than it was. I have identified the small patches of rust that'll need tended to before they progress further. They're not terrible, but it'll need done before it goes seriously downhill.
  11. I most absolutely need that in my life. About 480 miles though... 😬
  12. Thanks, I'm well chuffed with it. It's something different from what everyone else I know is driving (which is mostly modern stuff), so it's something a bit unconventional - but conventional for anyone that really knows me... 😂
  13. Gave it a rinse aff to shift any plant life etc. It's going for a valet courtesy of an ex-colleague, but that's a wee bit away yet and it was absolutely manky. Enjoying it so far, and averaging between 30 and 35mpg so far.
  14. If anyone here has the know-how then that'd be pretty cool, but it's beyond my technical capabilities sadly.
  15. Yes. Yes it does. And yes I spend time pressing the button just to hear the weird voice tell me to phone a number to renew my subscription 😂 AFAIK, the system isn't supported anymore, which is a shame as it seemed pretty neat.
  16. Aye the Vauxhall one was flattened in 2020. Seems the Ford one was Evans Halshaw, now Gates, I believe. That's two cars I've owned where the supplying dealers closed. 😂
  17. Got the tax disc holder out and it's now back on... And fitted some other stickers, just since I've settled in with it now and want it to be a bit more "mine"... Got some West Sound ones on order, if anyone else is interested then there's a small run coming up. Edit - tyres and floor mats ordered. Couldn't get genuine Vauxhall ones after all, they're NLA/unicorn shit. - Going to see a man about the rust patch on it next week after tyre fitting. Will report back.
  18. That's a bummer. Happy to help with replacing the wing if you need a hand. It's not too bad to do, but there's a few bits where they're glued on too.
  19. I don't like them either! Got a set of standard ones in the boot that'll go on the car after it has been tidied up.
  20. Much better with the new steering wheel on it, that original one looks like it come off a Mk4 Polo or something.
  21. New rear bushes on it, just in case... Child seat, just in case... 😬
