  1. Aye I'd agree with that statement. The Mondeo was more appealing inside, but the Vectra had those mirrors, and does the "an car" thing quite well for me.
  2. I'd take the Senator. Gives a good chance to blow out some cobwebs and that. I say this, as a man who has done 10,000 miles in a 25 year old Vectra in 6 months. If it goes a bit pear shaped anywhere between the Scottish border and Glasgow give me a shout and I'll try and be of help.
  3. Always thought these looked really modern. They continued the design language of this one with the current model, despite it being on a very different platform.
  4. I'd put good money on failed drop links on these. I don't want to talk about how many I've changed on the Skoda.
  5. Quite possibly! Been thinking shock absorbers too, since they're the 1998 originals. I'm currently waiting on an alternator for it before I can crack on with repairing the rest of it.

    More tax

£210 for the Skoda. £345 now for the Vectra. £160 when I bought the former, £325 the latter. £555 total now. What with the price of insurance now, chances are one will be outgoing come renewal time.
  7. Now following, because I'm dying to see what utter shit you've got yourself into.
  8. Looks positively stunning. A true credit to you, Peter.
  9. They use those stupid metal clips on a lot of trim panels on VAG stuff. Most of the boot panels in my Skoda are hanging by a thread.
  10. Yay! Looks good with those hubcaps on. Loving the bumper repair as well, mine had a chunk of paint out it so there's a Scotland sticker over it.
  11. Now home. Fresh battery courtesy of the AA and limped home. Fuck it, I'll fix it later.
  12. AVAS. Alternator isn't charging. Once again, AVAS.
  13. When I did the list of remaining S-reg Focuses, CarBaba was able to help me narrow down body style. This proved really handy in determining the remaining number of 1998 estates, for example.
  14. I'm happy to look at stuff Ayrshire and Galloway wise for you.
  15. Not sure if the fronts are like my Fabia since this uses the newer platform IIRC. But they're not too bad to do in the grand scheme of things. If I can do them in the missing rain at the top of my street whilst the woman on the other street tells I'm a waste of space then you can too!
  16. Mine did the exact same thing due to age. IIRC they're not too hard to replace. Given the work you've done on the Maestrooooo this will be piss easy.
  17. You'll be grand then. The one we've got is a 14 plate, used all year round. No underseal, by the sea, etc. It's still there, but I haven't taken the sill covers off (it's a Stepway), but the rest looks okay-ish. Hasn't given any bother in our time with it.
  18. Very good "an cars"... my Granda loves his. Think its four years since he bought his now. Just keep an eye on the sills, in my experience they can get a bit scabby.
  19. Such a wonderful looking car.
  20. Thanks Matty. I've been trying to keep it well tidy.
  21. Okay so, this had been due a service for quite some time. So, once the weather was a bit less shit, I had another go with this. Trust me, it was needed. Furthermore, it's a lot easier to replace the oil filter by removing the O/S/F wheel instead of fucking about with under trays and suchlike. Oil removed, filters changed. Oil refilled. Ah you bastard. Then I realised it was just down to me spilling a bit on the rocker cover. All is good. It's not leaking now. Sorted. In other news, mileage milestone (almost) achieved through the week. And now it's on a wee bit more. It's had a good effect, the service and the brake caliper replacement now. That's with the air conditioning on as well. That's not bad at all for a big motor. Finally, I've had a wee go of editing photos, because I can. I'm putting a lot of mileage on it at the moment. So it's going to get some rest for a bit, as I've got *an suspension noise*, and I'll go back to running the Fabia.
  22. Could be a brilliant campervan. Maximum effect if you keep a coffin in the back too.
  23. Tentative yes. If I'm allowed back/can clear it with work... Or if @PicantoJon is brave enough to get in a car with me again.
