    Yep. Stabilisers.
New kingpins will be delivered tomorrow as I only got back from the NEC today. There is no way to apply lubrication to the kingpin as original so options to fit grease nipples are being considered.

Great to see some progress. 😎
Are these jockey wheels going as training stabilisers?  😁

in REV news , she has assumed the position as they say!

front axle has been taken apart

and the old kingpin has been extracted

not sure if everything has been put back together with the new kingpin or if additional work is required, but hopefully it is plain sailing from here on out!

I drove my car home with a burst rear hard line and the audible alarm noise was painful. This car nearly made it home before the audible alert came up on ths M25, that was a fun trip for the last few miles with next to nothing on the pedal and a parking brake.
The main code seems to be the "Service Threshold Reached C235C", once that comes up all sorts of codes appear. I thought l had cracked it before but must have missed something as I'm still finding my way around the software.
All l can achieve fault wise running the extensive tests is a recommendation to bleed the system. I have my pressure bleeder modified and working now so that will get done then run the tests again. I would quite happily fit new motor brushes and a pressure accumulator but that test OK. Worst case scenario is I swap my current cars SBC over when I put this car back on the road so buying a pressure accumulator would not be a total loss.

I had a rare occasion yesterday just before leaving work, an empty two poster so I decided to have a look at what might be making the noise that has developed recently.
l found a bolt on the propshaft rear flex coupling had worked loose and of course it was a large Torx head, all I currently have at work are smaller or E Torx bought specifically for the Mercedes!  Made do with an Imperial hex key and a spanner, while it was airborne l adjusted the front wheel bearings.
l also had a look under the engine cover to see how bad The black death might be as I can smell it quite strongly in the car unless I use the carbon filter constantly.  I was quite surprised to see only a small amount of evidence around cylinder 6 so may explain the smell strength as it's close to the pollen filter.
As the cover was off I pulled a little oil out as I trusted the dash display measurement a while back and added a little too much resulting in a big red warning on the dash after a few motorway miles. Only Mercedes could stress you out at speed for a few millilitres too much oil.
The car was much quieter on the way home, better steering and brakes too. There is still a bit of bearing noise in the rear end and I found  little play on a lower arm bush but the good news is l don't have to rush the other car into service just yet.

Spent most of Sunday sat in the other S211 with the laptop and a few beers mainly trying to bring the SBC into line, finally have the screaming red dash warning and white "Service Brake Visit Workshop" warning extinguished but not holding my breath it won't come back. Down to 4 codes at the moment, only one I need to work out what's causing the fault and that may be the rear interior light, something to do with glass protection. The rest are down to tge drivers door mirror and rear light off my car I swapped out.

Awesome!  Brian looking sharp as always
they are indeed, hence why they are so rare these days, they where OE fitment from the Invacar Mk12c and AC Acedes Mk14A, to sometime in the later part of the Model 70's production run (not yet nailed down exactly when they switched away, but for Invacar they where still present during the NVW-P block however gone by the TTW-R block I think)
but they where so fragile/prone to getting broken that very few machines kept them for long, I would say based on anecdotal evidence that by the end of the 1970's, start of the 1980's most machines had replacement metal bodied equivalents fitted

Never seen ones with retainer plates before - interesting.
I hope I'm maintaining a healthy respect for the things, but the levering of the strut around in the wheel well to get the top of the strut back into the top mount, while the spring was fully squished, just so i could lean on the bottom strut bolts to get them cracked off, was all done with Hurt Locker levels of PPE, plus a safety squint, for good measure...

So had a poke around to figure what TF is going on and why some things have gone weird.
    Found a few things:
Server is currently running PHP v8.2. Old server was on PHP v8.1
This isn't the latest version of PHP (its actually quite old) but one that the OS supported natively.
The Invision Forum server check tool said it was all good, so I rolled with it. However I found this earlier that said they don't support it, even though their checker says its okay
https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/472888-php-82-thread/ The search service hammers the server when indexing. Once indexed it doesn't use that much processor time.
So the seperate server I used to run didn't get a work out once everything was indexed and wasting (monetry) resources.
Because the indexing takes so much processor time, it times out. I think this is what has screwed up the index where it stops about a year ago and then has started again from the last few days. I ran an extra search service to try getting around the no shards available. While both should be in sync, it this seems to do heavy work between the two daily (about 2 hours ago I presume was the last time). It could be the forum software kicking this off too, as that has some scheduled jobs that it runs daily (which you can't configure the exact time for it to run annoyingly). There appears to be a patch fix for the weird page change behavour. At least I assume its that by this message "Fixes issues with changing pages in some forum views"
This isn't widely published, just comes up with information on the admin console. Usually you get a big message (as an admin) saying an update is available on all pages.
This is what the admin console support section says:

You'd think if PHP8.2 wasn't properly supported, it would tell you...
Anyway here is what I'm planning to do:
Update to the latest forum version. This should fix the weird page issue. Roll back to PHP8.1.
This is actually a bit of a pain as for ease of maintenance I like the OS to deal with keeping it all updated but it means using a package source from elsewhere. Debian 12 only has PHP8.2 Modify the search server to be a single instance. It was generally pretty stable like this on the old setup. I'll give it a huge amount more RAM to gobble into which hopefully might stop the shard unavailable issue.
If this doesn't work, I'll have to run it on another instance. This will just mean extra monthly cost for the forum unfortunately. The forum software heavily relies on the search working beyond just the search box in the corner. To do all that properly, I'm going to need another maintenance session again soon, with the forum down an hour or so.

Yeah I started all the things (database, web server and php).
Elasticsearch has decided to suddenly just gobble all the space up again. This time all 40GB. Hence why the server went god awful slow about 20mins ago.
It's getting fecking ridiculous. I've hit rebuild on the search again. If it plays up after this time, I'll switch to the old system (with it's more restricted number of days it can search) and have a rethink of what to do with elasticsearch. It seems it doesn't like to play nicely with other stuff running on the same host. With only 2 CPUs and "only" 8GB of RAM (it's written in java so a massive memory hog), it struggles to coexist with everything else needed to run.
Potentially it'll have to run on its own instance again.

Just given it another restart as it was reporting it was out of disk space (which is a lie). It stops indexing if it thinks it's run out of room, so I needed to give it a kick asap otherwise the search will have missing results. So a few people might have seen the "An error has occurred" at around 8:14am to 8:15am (it take a minute to come back up).
I might have to upgrade the version at some point soon as that search server on as there seems to be quite a few bugs in the current version it's on.
