What you need is a plate neon as used in a Baird Televisor... I do like beehive neons.
Similarly, I have a 200-210V Baby Belling cooker and a 200-210V Belling electric fire here. Given my local supply is typically 248V I don't use them!

    Hermes lady just knocked.
    Is this what you've been waiting for?  Parcel 3"x 2" x 1/2",
Just found it wedged in a gap in the back of the van at home.
Made a special journey to bring it because I knew you were waiting.
I said she was good 11/10 for effort.
It's the packers fault for putting a switch in a small plastic bag.

Contacted my GP. They gave me a code to get them from any pharmacy. Which I have done.
Waiting for them to kick in now.

taking a breif interlude into my other hobby that is all things lightbulbs
I was recently contacted by @anonymous user who unearthed a bunch of vintage lightbulbs and very kindly sent them to me completely Free of charge
I am very thankful as the box contained a nice selection of rare incandescent lamps (and one very well used Philips Beehive neon lamp but with very rare external acid etching)

the box contained mainly Cryselco 210V (yes 210V pre grid standardisation FTW) 100W external Colour sprayed lamps
apart from being quite old from the 1940s and 210V, they are also unusual in that you dont often see coloured lamps in wattages as high as 100W due to how hot they would (and do) get
so I was very pleased to have these in the collection
and today I got round to testing them where im pleased to report they all worked lovely
(all the major GLS lamps anyhow, the Projector lamps look fine but have not been tested as they have funky bases to which I dont have sockets, and the Beehive neon will need additional equipment setup to test)
all the 210V lamps where of course properly given 210V by way of my very handy Variac (variable voltage auto transformer, a nifty transformer where 240V mains goes in, and theres big evil laboratory style knob on top that I can turn to dial in any AC voltage I want between 0V and 270V )

this smaller lamp is Siemens lamp of unknown power rating, as per the wrapper its rated at 210V but at that voltage gives me about 50W which is a non standard wattage so go figure...
(a couple of the lamp where while clearly being unused where in non matching wrappers however, so it may be that this is a 230V 60W lamp, but I did not want to risk it without being sure)

    another Cryselco 100W lamp

this large lamp was in the Osram wrapper, and is a Siemens 150W 240V GLS lamp, dating to November 1940 or September 1941  (note its unusual slightly elongated bulb shape)

    another Cryselco green

and then finally a couple Blue 100W Cryselco lamps, these really do get quite toasty quite quickly as the coating absorbs the most amount of light (as a normal filament lamp produces relatively little blue light)

once more im very thankful to @anonymous user for sending me these lamps, and completely free of charge too
it is very much appreciated! and im very pleased to be able to give them a good home in my collection

Yes absolutely I thought a can of thinners and wipe it off but the paint has been keyed in and applied quite heavily in places so it’s a no go. Plus I actually fancy something that looks good for a change.

Wonder if it's a German car thing!
I did just pull over for five minutes once it was safe to do so just to make sure there wasn't something amiss with my eyesight, coordination or something.  Nope, I was just having a crap few minutes it seems!
Even more sad I wasn't there now... especially given how different TPA looks to when that photo was taken!  Sadly I just didn't feel comfortable with it.  If it had been closer to home so I felt more able to just retreat maybe, but not that far off.  Yes I'm probably being paranoid, but having lost four friends to COVID and one still suffering life changing side effects a year on from "recovering" I'm always going to be on the extremely cautious end of the scale.
Really hoping next year won't have such questions of safety hanging over it.  Though given the queues to get in, glad I didn't go in the Merc given I'm not 100% sure if we've resolved the cutting out in traffic issue yet...though that's always going to be a bugger to reproduce artificially!
On the subject of the Merc, somewhat to my surprise when I removed the clamp the trim actually didn't just spring back to the original shape...so I've set it down again and clamped it again.

What I'll probably do tomorrow is the same again, but exaggerating the curve I want, hopefully meaning once it's released that it will just sit against the headlining.
I'm slightly puzzled as to how they intended rear speakers to be fitted as there are no obvious attachment points on the metalwork...so I think attaching them to this trim is the only real option...not the end of the world as I can route the screws through the holes already there without damaging anything (the perforated area is far bigger than the speaker would be).  Not an ideal setup though.
Sadly it doesn't look like there's any existing audio wiring loom either so I'll need to pull that through the whole length of the car.  Blarg... she's a long old car too!

I did say it'd be controversial but to me, an Audi isn't really an 'unexceptional' car but a 'premium' car.
'Unexceptional' to me means a typical family saloon that your average working man would buy if he chose to buy new - Victor, Viva, Cortina, Mondeo, Montego, Ital, Marina or less. Not wishing to go all "Four Yorkshiremen" here but I came from a working class rural background and I simply didn't know anyone who bought new cars, apart from a couple of rich Uncles.
Just because a particular Audi is base spec doesn't mean it's 'unexceptional'; my 5er is pretty much base according to its build list (only specified options were the smokers pack and a spare wheel) but there's no way I'd consider it an 'unexceptional' car.

Vehicles that were incredibly common and ubiquitous on Britain's roads in the 20th Century. They were so common that the general public didn't really care for them until so few were left and people began to feel nostalgic for them.

That Bob Marsh is wrong about the Mondeo and your Audi. Both cars would have been prime midde management company cars in their day.
Shows like this bring back memories of the cars you, your mates and your parents owned. Seeing the Opel Kadette brought back memories of the one I owned as a 19 year old. The Fiat 128 and the Avenger my parents owned when I was growing up. The green RS2000 my music teacher at school had one that colour. He was an amatuer rallist and his had the big Cibbies on the front and full rally spec. These cars bring back memories of when you grew up. If your parents owned a Porsche or Bentley or the Rolls convertible you were probably a boarder at public school so had no memories of the cars anyway.

Great to read this thread and remind myself that it’s something ive wanted to go to for a good few years. I suspect next year I may have a better selection of vehicles to take.
So given it’s a celebration of the “unexceptional” how far is that taken? (even an “unexceptional” car can become so if it’s concourse. ) I’d like the judges to find appeal in life and patina as well as a nice 2 pack windows out respray, because that would be exceptional in anyone’s book.

As soon as you mentioned cars you'd like to own again, I clocked the t-shirt you were wearing and immediately thought "He's bloody done it hasn't he, he's actually bought it over."

Excellent stuff, now you need to get a sticker for it that says "Funded by trolls".

Just done my first mend! Owner advised me not to touch the electric sunroof, as he'd never used it. Red rag to a bull, it opened easily enough but wouldn't close all the way and was very creaky. A lot of WD40 and gentle coaxing backwards and forwards and it now works. Done the door hinges and straps as well. Silicon spray would no doubt be better but it's in the caravan so needs must. Heres some better pics, pre valet.

Figured it made sense to do a levels check today so we can just go in the morning.
Initially this proved problematic as the bit of wire which serves as the secondary bonnet pull immediately came off in my hand.
I did briefly consider taking the approach of "Just going to pretend I didn't see that, it'll be fine..." Before telling myself to stop being an idiot.  Especially as I've played this game before on the W123 belonging to a friend so knew it wouldn't be a problem to get into and we've a 300+ mile drive in the morning.
30 seconds with a torch peering through the grill to remind myself how the latch worked and we were sorted.  Especially as I know full well that this car has a couple of oil leaks (fully disclosed before the sale I might add).
Yep, this was worth checking before a 300 mile drive.

    Much better.

We'll be stopping to check this again after about an hour.  Coolant was also a little on the low side, not drastically but with 28C forecast tomorrow I figure all the help it can get makes sense.
Will obviously be taking things nice and easy as far as possible on the rest of the way home.
