A colleague really pissed me off today. He's a racist, homophobic, etc. We keep out of one another's way and don't speak to each other, an arrangement that I'm very happy with. Most other people treat him the same way, as he really is an unpleasant individual. Everyone at work gets on with each other apart from this prick, and no doubt he thinks everyone else is the problem.
There's a lady who started on reception today and she was being shown around and introduced to people. She is Latvian but speaks very good English. I've got the utmost of respect for anyone who has taken the time to learn a second language, something which I've never bothered to do.
A few minutes later I overheard her being introduced to the bell end and someone else. Matey was repeatedly taking the piss out of her accent and laughing the whole time. The conversation looked very awkward and he was the only one finding it funny. What an appalling way to behave towards someone who is starting a new job. He then said something about her coming over on a dinghy.
I'm the last person to cause a scene, but suddenly found myself shouting out "her English is better than yours, you fat cunt" or words to that effect. I think he was just as taken aback as me, and didn't have anything to say in response. It was very out of character for me as I tend to avoid confrontation. A couple of others in the vicinity who overheard also piped up, including a lad built like a brick shit house who walked over to him and said "I dare you to talk to me like that".
Later spoke to the manager who was showing her around and apologised for my outburst and bad language. She was pleased something was said and is keen to escalate things over his discrimination, something which I'm more than happy to get on board with. I've had a word with a few other colleagues who also expressed a keen interest in throwing him under the bus.
It really angered me at how unwelcome the poor lady at the centre of all this must have been made to feel. There's a fair few of us who are determined to use this opportunity to fuck him off once and for all.

It's such a disgrace too as every single Postie I've ever met have been thoroughly decent and hard-working people. Our current Postie is called Mel and always puts a smiley face on the delivery notes if we're out.  And gives me a wave if she sees me out walking the dog.  I'm so sad about what has happened to Royal Mail.  It deserves so much better and all of you working there deserve so much better.

The problem is that if the 'some people' made their outrageous profits by being 'friends' with government ministers what you have is corruption. Corruption of a very similar kind (albeit not on the same scale) as 1990s Russia or many other tinpot nations. We should be better than that.
Michelle Mone is just the tip of this vile, sordid iceberg

I must just be lucky with post. I usually get second class stuff two or three days after it was posted, even from S. England and today I got a letter posted yesterday first class, admittedly from only 5 miles away.
I'll always use RM for sending stuff I sell on eBay, I don't care if Evri/Herpes etc are a quid cheaper I like my stuff arriving.  Likewise I'll always try and buy from someone using the postal system if for no other reason than I tend to be in when the postie gets hare and if I'm not the local sorting office is literally three streets away.

Yesterday marked three years of working from home for me.  My old employer announced blanket home working starting on the 23rd of March, 2020.  My department (IT) were some of the first allowed back on-site (alongside maintenance staff) around the end of June.  From that point on I did one or two days a week on site, with the rest at home.  Since April last year I've been at a new employer and worked from home full-time.
I've been 'on-site' three times in the year, once to Crewe, once to Bath, once to Cheltenham to visit customers.  Each time, my expenses were paid (and one one occasion the customer put me up in a four-star hotel in the centre of Bath - that was nice).  The company I work for ditched their offices long before COVID and have been remote ever since.  I was interviewed over Teams, my laptop shipped out to me and I didn't physically meet anybody from my company until late October last year.
It's how I like it and not having to make small talk all the time with colleagues is a bit of a dream.

Is every racist thinking its okay to publicly be racist these days?
I was down the pub tonight having a couple of pints and chatting to a couple of blokes at the bar and within 5 minutes they're complaining about Muslims and Pakis.
I called them out on it and they genuinely looked surprised.
I'm sure it never used to be like that.
Like my mate said, they probably thought I was a fucking massive racist being white, bald, overweight and dressed like a chav.
    However I'm a gammon in disguise. Ch-ch-ch-cha-cha-cha-cha
But 10 yrs ago I could talk to people in the pub without them banging on about how much of a cunt they are.
Even if they were racist they knew it was unacceptable to be a racist so kept quiet. But now its full on all 'muslims are scroungers' right to your face.
Its fucking Facebook echo chambers etc making people think they have a legitimate point of view isn't it.
Its probably because 90% of normal people don't post their shit on Facebook 'news' articles so the balance ofvl the cunts that do makes it look like every cunt is racist and they think its okay.

One of the friends I made in hospital has just got home after being in for over a year(!)
She has £9 to her name until she gets her bank account unfrozen.
She wanted a pizza, 10" with onion, but with the delivery fee it came to £10.
She didn't want to phone them because autism and embarrassment about being seen to be "begging".
I overcame my own phone anxiety, phoned them up and explained the situation, they're sending her out a 12" pizza for the £9!
Feels good to help out someone who has helped me out so much, even if it's only in a small way.

In other grin worthy news, I'll be home for the weekend tomorrow morning, and if that goes well I'll be home most of next week and possibly home for good by christmas!

Just taking a wild guess here, but I'd imagine if you're the sort of absolute knobhead who's 'not going to donate to the RNLI anymore' because they rescued some immigrants, then you probably never actually donated to them anyway.

GeorgeB reacted to JimH in It is just so Super (Sentinel).
There has been a lot of work being done but most of it is of the mind numbingly dull variety. I'll sort a better update out later but for now here are a couple of photos. Both Sentinels were due their hot test this week so we took the opportunity to at least see if the Super could run under its own steam.
The inspector was supposed to be here on Tuesday but he forgot about it which meant we had to get them both going again on Wednesday which gave us a chance to sort out a few teething troubles for the next day. Tuesday was all foggy but at least it moved under its own power even if the steam brake valve was messing about and wouldn't stop it. It looks a bit crap without the rear wings and the cock eyed headlamps hardly help the look but at least it has seen daylight now. What it did remind me of is what a delight Supers are to drive.

Yesterday the sun came out and the brakes worked properly so I felt more confident taking it up a small hill. The bits sticking up from the cab roof are the start of the brackets for the headboard - it was supposed to rain and I didn't want it to get the bare steel wet. I'm pretty pleased with the look of the body. The curve of the roof is right and it looks suitably butch.

    More later.
