I’ve bought yet another ECU for it using the correct part number. It’s estimated to arrive next week seeing as it’s coming from Lithuania. A connector might still be needed, but I’ll see how things go first.

A new ECU has arrived for it. Here’s hoping it resolves the issue with the driver’s seat.
I’m also very much aware that it needs a good clean

Just done my first mend! Owner advised me not to touch the electric sunroof, as he'd never used it. Red rag to a bull, it opened easily enough but wouldn't close all the way and was very creaky. A lot of WD40 and gentle coaxing backwards and forwards and it now works. Done the door hinges and straps as well. Silicon spray would no doubt be better but it's in the caravan so needs must. Heres some better pics, pre valet.

We all tend to lose track of things over time, but thanks to a gentle push from Mr RobT of this parish, I’m doing this update on my current collection of French tat. I took the difficult decision to part with a few 18s, including my early TL just before lockdown. It’s seemingly been placed into the next classic auction by the new vendor, who has done a bit of work on the car.
Anyway - current state of play... Voila!

Anyone know of a decent 9 or 11 (either phase)? Looks like I’ve just missed out on the Mk1 Ph2 Laguna V6!

The idle speed problem was a really simple fix! The throttle return spring, for some reason, was pushing on the wrong part of the quadrant so minimal tension when shut.

This is just an internet photo, but it was around 90° too slack, pushing on the circled moulding rather than where it should be.
To celebrate @Puglet took it out for a drive this evening, once the tourist traffic had died down.

    Looking rather nice! (ATCNBE...)

    Another job off the list!

Thanks, that's very kind of you.
The air filter housing finished its bath, but was in rather worse condition than first thought - some of it there was no good steel to dissolve back to!

My welder is out of action, so I taped up the inside and used epoxy (3M 2216) to build up a layer.

Then a coat of paint and new filter.

Job done, and looking a lot better! New coolant level sensor also fitted.

Next was the lights - a headlight was misty, an indicator cracked, and both had been changed for the facelifted clear type fitted to the later models.

I took the lights off, and again was really pleased how good condition the metalwork was behind.

I took the opportunity to spray some cavity was around, including injecting it into the chassis legs.

It also seemed a good idea to clean up all the electrical connections and coat with silicone grease. Both headlights were dried and sealed up, before refitting with the correct amber indicators.

Maybe someone on here can bid on this equally rusty (albeit in different places) RHD coupe?

I don't know how I missed this thread with the word "504" in the tittle.
Great job we need more 504s.
At Rustival yesterday there were two, a RHD 1.8 Auto Saloon and a LHD Diesel Estate.
I have a 504 convertible which while taken on as a project has not run properly in the 15 years I have had it. The accusation is that it is the Kugelfischer injection at fault and then there was the wheel falling off incident!

    Lil update:
Got the driver's seat out of the way,

you can actually work out where the dead rat was from the shape of the rust hole in the floor

Either way with the seat removed it was much easier to get the clutch pedal return spring re-attached - t'was still a right ballache of a job though

    Ok so clutch slave next...

As mentioned previously it's totally fucked:

Not the best way to spend a Monday evening trying to get it out of the gearbox casing. Absolutely love it when two different metal parts are fitted together in such a way that as they corrode and expand over time they'll never be separated again...
Also very cute that to back it out of the casing fully I have to drop the steering rack
(Any ideas on how to get this bugger outta here would be much appreciated)

Anyway after two hours of getting nowhere, knackered from work and not being able to find my work light, fumbling with the phone torch and a very dusty 60 watt bulb in the garage to light what I was doing, I decided I'd better go inside and do something pointless instead.
So inspired by HMC's Shadow thread, I got some bits of rubbish together and started constructing a front number plate:

Does it look good? No. Is it passable? Maybe??

I'd left the clutch slave marinating in penetrant for the rest of the week and was meaning to get back to it this weekend, but then got sidetracked by a short-notice request for kitten delivery

Will try and knock it out next weekend, new cylinder is on order but probably pretty far off fitting it at the minute

This is probably the most well known 504 in Ireland. Converted from a new 1.8 petrol estate to a hearse and kept in perfect running order after it was retired from "active duty" It stayed with the undertaker until his death and is now owned by a collector in Kerry who uses it sparingly for shows, and was used recently for a funeral of a man who had owned a Peugeot dealership in the 70s

She rests at her new home. A quick wash on the outside. Inside the radio is tuned to the stations I listen to. I had a good check of what buttons do what. There is some sticky plastic, as mentioned in a previous Petrolblog video, I have tried isopropyl alcohol and it's better but still not perfect. I will look into other options. Service history is mad! Everything has been covered. 23 services in the book upto 127000 miles. I am missing the drivers handbook so will be looking for one of those. 4 almost new Falken tyres. A few foibles to be expected from a 25 year old Renault, but otherwise a bloody brilliant car. I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to own her.

Arrived home. What a supremely cosseted waft. Yes the seats are as comfortable as they look! Not packed with horsepower but for a relaxing way to get about it's going to take something  special to beat it for a car in every day use.

The automotive.ai instagram account is one of my favourites. The guy has his prompts right down, and is obviously using particularly good software, to the extent that lots of the stuff looks genuinely real. I think this early 1950s Audi TT is one of the nicest cars I've ever seen

This nifty chap turned up (old one pictured)

So we've had new plugs, new coils (x2 - Still awaiting others to be in stock) , new injector and a new Airbag plug.
Checked everything was plugged in before refitting the inlet manifold, broke open the new gaskets, torqued down to spec, and ...
It fired straight into life 🥳, so decided to treat it to a new air filter, as I wasn't too sure when the last service was (Juley ?)

A quick trip around the block, and I could still hear a air leak - Can't be manifold as all gaskets are new here, but peaking beneath the throttle body, I found this

Rang up Peugeot/ Citroen dealer, and they basically said 'LOL NO', so unfortunately had to sleeve it, with some pipe. Refitted and no more unmetered air. The idle seemed to be much smoother now too.
So the next few days I put some miles on it, as I wanted to make sure all this work (and more) was worth it.

267 miles later, I can confirm it's a good car.
So with that in mind, it got MORE NEW STUFF

New brakes all round - discs, pads and shoes.

'Ooft, must eat juice being a V6'

The autobox seems to change up early, meaning you're never stressing the engine, it just wafts, BUT press the sport button and its a different version of events, I can see why they chose a V6 in the mental Clios.
A few weeks (month ?) Of wafting around in this, and I won't lie it is THE most comfortable car I've owned, I even lent it to a friend, and even he said 'this floats along similar to my old Bentley, just needs less aggressive tyres to be silent' , genuinely not making that up !!! .
Anyway non of this work would have been worth it, if it couldn't pass a MOT

MOT WHILE YOU WAIT. 🙈 These sort of places never normally end well, but:

    Yep, advisory free PASS.
