    hmmmmmmm

it's driving really nicely and doing very well with no issues

    suspiciously well in fact!

    i'm sure it'll break soon

honestly, this has technically been more reliable than my red C5

Once stuff was sorted properly, I also found mine to be incredibly reliable.

Hope it keeps on bringing the smiles.

  2. Not quite sure how this bus got in to this trouble in our little sleepy village on a 30mph road?! Possibly on wet grass and slid with a bit of power application?

    RH side all bent sadly

    G533 VBB I think

    That's just the staff!

I was in Screwfix a few weeks ago to collect and asked to add some C-cell batteries to the order. The bloke looked at me like it was a time-wasting-mentalist! He explained to me, like I was a simpleton, not that they didn’t have them but that they didn’t exist— but that AA’s do, and maybe that’s what I meant.

After suggesting that he search his computer for stock of what are basically big-boy AA batteries he found that they did exist and went to get them. I told him that D-cell batteries would blow his mind if he saw them but he didn’t have a sense of humour either.

plus many other green blooded relatively!

460 miles in total, did it on 3/4 tank of E5!

no issues with the car, it was great

Fantastic! This is always a great meet. Gutted I didn’t make it this year.

Good thing you bought this and not my sister’s 2.2 as that’s just decided to clogs it DPF… again… when I’m a million miles away.

They either have holes drilled through the blocks or have had their oil systems filled with epoxy resin,

I saw an earlier post about the holes in the blocks. What is the reasoning for the disabling of the engines with this or epoxy in them?

I’m not in the market for a fuzzmobile, just curious as to the wastefulness. Or maybe it isn’t: are the engines pretty knackered, they know it and actually trying to prevent someone buying and then re-selling on as fully working with minimum repair*?

  6. Yes, they should not have let it leave without trying some sort of defect rectification. Did they use blue low adhesion tape like they should, especially on elderly lacquer? I suspect not.

Anyway, hope you can indeed sort it out. C5 looking great. Well done.

  7. If you haven’t disturbed something in your electrical adventures the it may be worth considering the ignition switch. The switches can get a bit iffy on these and there is a nice how-to on Club XM about adding a relay in to the starter circuit to relieve the current flowing through the switch.  It’s a pretty easy addition.

i'll say one thing about this

unlike every french car i've ever driven

    the headlights are bloody excellent!

super bright, really good spread of light and auto mode works great

xenon's they are, so people know i'm posh!

I put these in the C6 to make me mega cool and slightly less able to see!

  9. Saw a LHD lowered, freshly painted, yellow lighted Mk. 1 Renault Trafic in Cambridge. Couldn’t work out if it was visiting from France or not as it has weird plates: I wouldn’t normally be interested in such things but it was so bloody cool looking! Then I saw it again later in my village when we went for a walk— got to tell them it was a cool van.

I think I want as early Trafic now

  10. Wow! That’s great. Loving that it is proper colour, has the prettier front and also a lighter interior which is much nicer too.

I see it is petrol too! That’ll be less trouble than the diesel and probably give the auto box an easier life too. With the two C6 petrols I’ve had, the boxes have been fine at a decent age and mileage but apparently the diesels always eat their boxes eventually— less torque thumping them about I suspect.

and just for completeness sake, before the Full bodied Invacar Mk10 came the Canvas bodied Invacar Mk8

My mate’s got an invalid carriage of some sort that looks like that canvas Invacar above. If it is of interest I can probably get some pictures for you.

  12. To give you some hope for your future Avantime purchase, the spare wheel is UNDER the car. What you showed was the second lower boot— they can be combined by removing that second parcel shelf and then it’s really quite big and practical.

I loved mine so much but the automatic gearbox on the 3.0 V6 was just intolerable in that they all select neutral about a second after you come to a stop and then thump back in to first too slowly just as the revs rise. Volvos did exactly this mistake with the same box but finally programmed this silliness out with a software update… obviously it wasn’t worth Renault’s while to do this.

If it wasn’t for the box, I’d probably still have it— oh and the stupid oversight of zero foot space under the back seats that you also mentioned.

I think I have a video of my absolutely caning mine up a mountain pass in Scotland somewhere! The ES9 (or whatever Renault  call it—that’s the Citroen name) was screaming beautifully and it did actually handle.

Like on my old XJ-8, there is no position 1.

Ah okay, well that’s sort of good news that it’s not capable of being locked in to “1” with an out of adjustment cable.

It does sound like a weird way operate at the moment though. Good luck, I’m out of ideas too now!

    Auto box question…

If I pull the lever back to position 2 when I am moving, it will drop down to second and stay there. If I select position 2 when stationary, it appears to start in 1st and not change up until I move the selector to 3, 4 or D. Is this what it's supposed to do? Bizarre.

    TIA

Is the gearbox controlled by a mechanical cable and is there a “1” position also?

I ask because it sounds to me like normal operation should be that the numbers should just be there to select the limit of the highest gear but always start in 1st. It sounds like yours might be going to “1” accidentally when you select “2”. If true then a little cable adjustment could be in order or maybe an inspection of the gearbox mounts as maybe the gearbox is physically moving itself about relative to the fixed selector cable.
