  1. Some Checker Marathons were fitted with the 5.7 Chevrolet diesel, but didn't catch on.
  2. Snap! It was once owned by someone who collects old TVs who occasionally has an open day at his house which is like an old technology museum.
  3. One was used by Michael Edwardes when he was in charge of BL.
  4. Some forces personnel took advantage of being stationed in Cyprus to buy a car there (tax free?) & bring it home at the end of the posting.
  5. Leyland liked to use animals for their lorries.
  6. Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
  7. Yes I was thinking it was an odd thing to buy a car in Germany & get it shipped to the USA.
  8. Going by the German customs plate this was bought there for export.
  9. I guess dealers were using 1100s to plug the gap at the bottom of the range left by the Imp being dropped in 1976.
  10. Fiat Argenta, which must have made made UK sales even more minimal after the Falklands. Some models get market specific names, like the Seat Malaga being named Gredos in Greece due to it sounding a bit iffy.
  11. It's interesting the Simca 1100 is on there but not the Sunbeam.
  12. I remember my Brother's Supercars book mentioned Cugnot's steam carriage. From what I remember he crashed it into a wall & was fined for the damage caused!
  13. Was that a real hairstyle or because she's in the Windy City!
  14. I follow someone based in Chile on Flickr who spots interesting cars there & in other Latin American countries. https://www.flickr.com/photos/riveranotario
  15. Did the designer of the lines also supervise the building of their new paint shop in the 1990s, where the bacteria levels in the pipes caused a lot of cars to rust like a 1970s Fiat!?
  16. I remember seeing some 1990s cars being tested to the modern NCAP standards & ending up as crumpled wrecks.
  17. I remember Watchdog doing a test on folding pushchairs using carrots as fingers! They proved to be a potential deathtrap!
  18. I once had one of the collapse on my little finger while I was trying to fold it down! Very painful & lost a finger nail.
  19. You are probably right. There have been some exceptions to the rule, I've heard the Rover P6s after 1970 got gradually worse in terms of build & paint quality. Some new models can be troublesome in their early years, with it taking some time for assembly workers getting used to putting them together, as well as mechanics learning how to fix problems.
  20. My Aunt & Uncle had a late Allegro for years, my Aunt reckoned it was more reliable than the C reg Maestro that replaced it.
  21. A friend of the family bought a terracotta Allegro in the early 1990s when he was between company cars. He mentioned it drove better than he expected, though it had no headrests on the front seats. I get the impression they are decent cars if you didn't get a Friday afternoon special! Probably true of the other BL cars.
  22. The driver looked like a Kid who shopped at the same clothing stores as The Beach Boys!
