The same question from the opposite side - ERF trucks were great, yet I don't remember seeing any abroad in the 20th century.

I think it's just that local operators were familiar with the local product. Over time that changed with tariffs disappearing and globalisation meaning we had a 'survival of the fittest' situation. The biggest makers bought the smaller ones and assimilated them and others failed
Note also that a lot of the DAF trucks you see around the UK and elsewhere are Leylands - engineered and built by Leyland but with DAF branding as the Leyland brand is long gone. You still see Leyland stickers in the door jamb on modern DAF trucks. The ones that are Leylands, that is

Here is the biography for Anne Sellors on IMDB.

    Sounds like a great woman.
    Wonder what she was in?

Cars can drive on and off, clearly it's the ideal collection/recovery vehicle:

Marketing always wins. You only have to look at any VW Golf to realise that.

Have we had the Ford Ka, yet?
Horrific things. Badly made, rattly shit heaps with a terrible interior and an engine that seemed to be from the 1930s.  It's as if someone had a bet at Ford that they could create a smaller version of the truly awful Escort of that era, yet somehow do the seemingly impossible and actually make it worse. If ever a car was built down to a price, rather than up to any standard at all , it was the Ka.
Pile (of shit) it high, sell them cheap.

Not really the point I was making. Gambling costs literally mortgage’s. You can gamble 100’s,  1000’s or millions in the blink of an eye. Don’t recall anyone smoking a grands worth of fags in a week let alone a few seconds

It’s a fuckin joke, virtually EVERY kind of sport is sponsored by gambling companies. They banned tobacco companies, coz it’s bad for health, yeh I get it, but do you know anyone who lost their house, business & maybe everything they own, coz they smoked a few fags?

Took my car for an MOT today. Passed, no advisories. I'm very happy about that.
This evening I decided to file the pass sheet and noticed the testers name. M. Thatcher. Nice to get a Prime Minister look over your Jaguar XJ

Not a great start to the day, went out to the cars this morning to see that some little scrote has taken my silver lady, only a matter of time I suppose being in a public car park, still really pissed me off, any suggestions on where to get another one cheap ?

Today the VXR8 went for proper 4w alignment.

This all went well until the nearside leading lower arm on the rear axle (which is adjustable on the HSV variants of the VE Commodore) sheared. The garage had tried penetrating oil, heat, and then sheer force to get the outer adjusting nut to free off (having already successfully managed the inner), and the arm gave way instead 🤦🏻‍♂️
Got a lift back home, then had the fun* of extracting the spare arm off the spare subframe (lucky I bought that…) which put up a fair old fight. Fortunately it came around to my way of thinking before I went full fat gorilla on it. Back to the garage, dropped the replacement arm off and let them get on with it. Collected the car a few hours later and it drives so much better, but still isn’t exactly perfect. There was an adjustment bolt on one of the rear arms that they were understandably reticent about messing with, having already had the experience with the leading arm, so it’s good enough for now. With the spare rear subframe available to refurbish and fit later this year it’s something I’ll live with, once that is all on everything will be new and easy to adjust.
Back home and it got treated to a bit of an engine bay wash and brush up:

A close up of the vital details:

I have to be honest and say I’m pretty satisfied with how this has turned out, it was a proper wreck when I bought it and now it’s a damn good car. The cosmetics still need attention and the clutch can judder a bit away from standstill, but they can wait for now.
