Made it home. AA guy was a good dude. Looks like I've got away with minor damage. He has left it on an axle stand so I can take the wheel straight to a tyre place. The tyre itself is properly shredded

Can't even blame BMW for this one. A Michelin tyre that I last checked yesterday

Since buying an MOT-less 1997 car located halfway across the country sight unseen from an eBay auction had gone so well for me the first time (genuinely), I decided to do it again. Lightning did not strike twice. I'll try and write up the whole experience in its own thread sometime but for now I'll leave you with this delightfully shite pairing of my 1997 Daewoo Espero and what is thankfully no longer my 1997 Ford Aerostar.

Picked this up today to give my Sierra a rest. 2.0 diesel auto-Connoisseur SE.
155,000 miles-done very little over the last few years.
Bloke I bought it off had it for 18 years.
    6 weeks MOT left.
Drives well- a few niggles to sort out-exhaust vibrating, headlining drooping , needs a good clean and takes a while to start when hot.
    Still it only cost £400

Received this in the post yesterday, a taxed, MOT'd and insured vehicle parked legally on the street on which I live but the council have decided it is abandoned and they are threatening to remove it.
Interestingly no option presented in the letter to dispute this, just to 'discuss removal' or confirm 'no longer require the vehicle'

A bit more of the bitsa interior. Upside- it’s semi trashed so very usable. (OSR door card- partially eaten by a dog?)

Dog guard secured by a ww2 soviet machine gun sling
The headlining is just the backing only, as it the internal a b c d pillar trim-

The NSR 1/4 window still has the breakers yard markings on it for extra couldnt give a fuck points. Actually this glass is more tinted, and is optikool rather than the other side windows being triplex- so off a later model i think.

    Farthest off road so far

    Verdict- must try harder

The BeCM (body module) is much cheaper to fix than it used to be. It used to be a part you had to get brand new from a dealership - now there are mail order services that will repair them for under £200 on a 48 hour return service
Suspension more or less fine these days. The original airbags developed leaks which caused the compressor to burn out as it was trying to keep the pressure. No cars will still have the original Dunlop bags now and there are much cheaper, tougher aftermarket ones. I'd definitely want one on air, not coil springs
Engines are not bad these days. The V8s are a lot better than back then but I'd still say the diesel is the toughest engine in the range.
I think they will all have had the heater o-rings replaced now. If not, that's a dashboard-out job to replace about £2 of o-rings. I very much doubt there are any left that haven't been fixed, however

    Smoll update.
911s engine has been built so it was time to ship the car down to them for installation and fettling.
I paid a man to do it, it was actually cheaper than it would have cost me by the time I'd rented a trailer, paid for fuel for the Jeep and Tebay pies

I'm kind of a big deal, only personalised trailers for my shite.

The Manta is coming on too. @GingerNuttzis busy getting the body ready for the 400 kit.

And I decided to sack off the Corsa VXR seats I'd bought for it-they were heavy and were going to be awkward to fit. It's getting more like a rally car so might as well have some proper buckets.

I ordered up weld in seat rails which were of course the wrong size. I've got that sorted now so next up is seat fitting.

Today has been the best day I've had in a long time, I got money back on the taxes, and I've had the highest temperature since October with close to plus 10.
And best of all, dad and I have now got something we've been dreaming about and wanting for years a small wheel loader.
It is Chinese and electric but this brand has been sold in Norway for a long time and has a good reputation and we have a dealer close by who seems good so it is worth taking the chance on and it has exceeded expectations so far .And it may look like a toy but is bigger than it looks and can lift 500kg.
Have tested it on snow removal today and am very happy with it so far.

Don't know whether @Tommyboy12 knows but he unintentionally features in an Aronline article about base model Montegos (sort of). "The A Plus was never offered in the Montego estate, although there is one on the road with a perplexing engine downgrade". 😆
