  1. Lord Sterling i presume :)  Fellow 827 owner here could you help solve a sunroof issue? By the way their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes but when Sports came out in 83 I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.

The drivers side lifter and passenger side plastic slider in the sunroof have snapped and therefore the sunroof no longer seals or operates correctly. I have the parts needed to repair the sunroof i am just struggling to find anyone willing to fix it. I have approached several local garages and mechanics all of which have turned me away. Although this is a relatively simple job i dont want to attempt it in fear of doing more damage to the car... Parts are getting rare now as you will know.

      Hi man,

Basically, its been a long time since I touched a sunroof. From what I remember, its fairly easy, you'll need a covered area to do this in but it is literally 4 bolts holding the sunroof in.

Inside the vehicle, take the sunroof headlining liner off. It just pulls off. You should be able to access the sunroof bolts with an adjustable wrench. Undo those bolts and whole sunroof mechanism should be removable.

If you are not confident with doing the work then I would suggest a reputable old-car fettler or Rover specialist. I wouldn't know any up north but I might be able to have a look about. I think also might have some Haynes Rover 800 manuals spare somewhere.

Have you registered on the Rover 800 forum rover800.info? They should be able to help as I've had help of these guys before. I also used to know the original Rover 800 collector VeryTallBrad.

Good luck and ley me know how it goes.

      Cheers,

      Mo

Oh yea its a fairly simple job but MK1 parts for the sunroof are mostly NLA i dont want to attempt it break something and cause irreversible damage. My 827 is/was my dream car i wanted one for aslong as i can remember now i actually own one there is more chance of me getting rid of the wife than the car haha

I am a member of the Rover 800 owners club and even they have come up trumps i have approached three different independent Rover specialists up here and none of them were willing to take the job on. I am thinking of taking it to the Austin Garages in Burton on Trent i hear they have saved many a Rover. If you think of anyone please let me know in the meantime hopefully someone will respond to my post on the forum!
