So, are some of the cockroaches simply cars that sold in large numbers (rather than being particularly durable). As there were a lot to start with they take a lot longer to thin out in numbers. With lots getting broken it’s easier to get spare parts and the cheaper aftermarket suppliers cater for them as there is a large market. There’s also alot of knowledge built up to deal with common problems and hence fixes.

I’m really pleased that you are getting on with sorting your garage and restarting the pickup project. My own garage has become a proper dumping ground for ‘stuff’. It frustrates me enormously and makes any job 10 times harder, yet I seem totally unable to motivate myself to sort it out. I’ve spent the past few months clearing my late mate’s garage and selling off his gear for his widow. It’s been really tough, especially dealing with the ‘special’ types that reply to adverts. I can’t bring myself to sort my own stuff even though in the long term it will improve my life enormously.

Good progress and great to see it out on an event. What class would it be in if used on a long distance/reliability trial? Hope all machine preparation is now sorted for the Lands End. I decided to enter for the first time in ages ,so a lot of jobs have needed doing. Just about ready now, but I’m sure there will be a last minute panic over something.

If the rear window is flat, a plant repair company or glazing company should be able to cut one to a pattern.

Not sure on the validity of the statement but I’ve read that sometimes it’s best to fill with neat water first and run the engine up to temperature before draining and refilling. This is supposed to give the sealant on the head gasket a chance to flow/work so it’s not contaminated by the antifreeze.

If it is 36mm then that’s the same as old Land Rover defenders. Spanners for viscous couplings are readily available for these.

Yes it’s similar to that but listed specifically for coolant systems. ( although I suspect it could be the same)

I’ve found one on the Amazon app. A small bottle of dye and torch in the Ring Automotive shop but I’m a bit of a Luddite and don’t know how to post a link.

I’ve put some uv die in the coolant before and used the special torch that can come with it. Very helpful when tracking down a weeping hose in the MINI
