  1. You could be right, I may have got them the wrong way round. But it is a thing that stops it starting regardless if it thinks it's not in the correct gear.
  2. It does go on the gear lever position, but I don’t know if the switch is there or if it’s buried underneath the car. But it will stop the car from starting at all if it believes the gear is in neutral (so I believe) like all Hondas.
  3. Does anyone know where, or how, I can get access to the neutral switch for the gearbox on this thing? I'll be looking at it on Saturday and if the main relay tests OK (haven't done that yet) then it'll be the neutral switch that I need to look at next.
  4. I’m not sure if I’m honest, but 100% there is no air in the system when I unplugged the drivers side. Both sides go in to like a drum/brake booster kind of thing, and the compressor feeds in to that. So I get what you mean. I wouldn’t think it’d keep air if one side went down because then the whole thing would be on the wonk though. Ceri bless him is taking the Land Cruiser to Ledbury for me on Wednesday, where they will fix the suspension and (hopefully) air con - as well as a “health check”.
  5. I know where you're coming from. It's a lesson in when choosing a car to do better research in how much these things cost to fix when they break. Fuck spending £2,500 a corner! So my Land Cruiser is an LC5, which is top spec. It's the only one of them that has air suspension, the rest are on coils. But in the later 150 and 200 models, they have some weird KMSS (something like that) which apparently is an utter pig of a system to deal with - and expensive. Mine doesn't have that, so there are small blessings. Currently though I'm trying to sort out a trip to Overland Cruisers in Ledbury who are specialists in Land Cruisers. They're going to do a health check on it, and sort the suspension, and air con. Well I've asked them to do it, whether they can or not I don't know. It's a fucking horrible position to be in as, realistically, I've spent too much on this thing in under 2 years of ownership. I should move it on. But then I've spent a lot of money on it that I won't get back, so I should really use it. The health check, I suppose, will either consign me to further depression with it or at least give a bit of piece of mind that the worst of it's problems are sorted. We'll see. No idea if the arms are bent, I'd be surprised if they were. With the air bags, if you disconnect one line of the whole thing loses pressure. The ride height sensors balance it out, and in fairness when I had it at N both sides measured 92cm (from the bottom of the tyre to the top of the arch). So maybe something is broken on the drivers side allowing it to expand further.
  6. The thing is it’s meant to have air suspension. You can do a conversion but that’s not for this spec of car and it’s a modification etc. I know insurers can be funny about Range Rovers with the conversion and I’d rather not have that administrative ball ache. Plus as well saying that the suspension has been sorted is a plus point for selling it. they’re not torn or damaged when going on the vehicle. I think when it collapses it gets pinched by the axle and body which then puts a hole in the bag. The new ones I put on you can see it takes a chunk of the rubber and reinforcement. The tear is only 1cm long as well.
  7. I have the workshop manual on an old hard drive which I'm struggling to access because of encryption. So at the moment no I've no diagram. But it's really quite simple. At the top of the air bag there are two posts (for want of a better term). One post is where the air line attaches to it, and the other is more like a nipple that a U spring clip fits on to it. So the bag at this point hangs down from the car. At the bottom of the bag is a stud. That is supposed to sit on to a plate on top of the axle. When you first put it on the bag doesn't reach it, so you lift the axle so it's practically on the bump stops and that attaches to the bottom of the bag. That's really all it does. Looking at the photo of the fucked one though I wonder if the plate is buckled a bit towards the back. I've a number to a specialist in Ledbury who I'm going to call when they open and throw it to them. More money, more heartache. I think that should be the tag line of the Land Cruiser - if Toyota are reading!
  8. It managed 2 miles before I heard the unmistakable hiss of air escaping. The drivers side bag is fucked again. So I don’t know what to do now really.
  9. You join me live in the air suspension championships. Everything is connected. New ride height sensor fitted, the third air bag on the drivers side fitted. I have set the height to Low, and this is the result: Passenger side above, drivers side below: The drivers side has inflated a fair bit more than the passenger side. However, I think it may be on a slope. I haven’t set it to N (Normal) yet as I want to check the height being reported back by the sensor. F**king windows updates! I restarted it because originally Techstream couldn’t talk to the Air Suspension module. It did this before, so thought the laptop might be wrong. If after the restart it doesn’t work, I’m going to drive it to the end of the driveway where it’s flatter and set it to N. Its 1-1 and there’s 4 minutes of stoppage time to go…
  10. I've seen one of these in the flesh. Not sure how you're meant to do the last mile with your loved one, unless they let you drive it?
  11. Think I know what’s happened. I thought I would see if the air bags were inflating before changing the old ride height sensor. It’s just dawned on me that I didn’t consider the fact that last time it was reading -12cm, compared to the new one that said -5 or -6. It could well be that the car is over inflating the driver side, and when the passenger side stops it kept going and then went pop. Heres a photo of the passenger side: And here’s the drivers side: it’s all academic now. It’s a new bag, and a call to a mobile mechanic - only because I saw what happened with the other height sensor and I just can’t bring myself to go under that thing again and drill out holes and go through the bag bollocks again.
  12. Actually scratch that, the new bags torn. Fuck sake!
  13. So the new bag had a tear in it, so it wasn’t inflating. That generated the error from the compressor. Good news is, I put the two new bags on. I’ve even swapped the shocks! Lost the top rubber for one of them but I’ll use the old one. Good news is, I turned the car on and it started inflating! Both sides. Great stuff! Bad news is that the side that tore the new bag somehow moved off its bottom mount and twisted itself. Ive unplugged the air line, air wooshed out. Now though the bag is fully inflated (elongated with no air in it) so I’ve to take the fucker off now and wonder why it did that, because this is the second bag it’s happened to.
  14. I’ve been left deflated after the last time, especially as I was coiled in the corner somewhere. Crying.
  15. I fancy changing its name to Phillip Schofield, such is my disdain for the ungrateful cunt right now.
  16. Tomorrow is a big, big day. Ive bought two new air bags, I’ve bought another height control sensor for the side I didn’t get changed. There is nothing else really I can change under it in order to get the suspension working. I’m fitting the shocks too, so it’ll all be done. Went to move the car to save a bit of time tomorrow, I was gifted with another flat battery. That said I only take the one battery out to charge it, so that’s in the garage charging as we speak. If this doesn’t work then I’m shit out of ideas.
  17. I don’t think so. They have a metal drop link which you’re meant to adjust and that gives it’s “height”. Only one person has got back to me regarding the Techstream post (all busy with the Eurovision) and the right hand sensor is looking at the jeep from behind. So the old sensor must be well out, or broken. Will find time tomorrow and have a look.
  18. You’re quite right that has jumped out to me. The brackets can only go on one way though.
  19. The great thread resurrection of 2023. Nothing to report. You all know (or should know) the craic. The Lada has been sat outside while the extension was built, it’s now waiting for the Land Cruiser to earn its keep and work a bit so I can scab some slabs to put in front of the garage in order to be worked on. In the meantime I got the bits of video together about the process.
  20. Ah relax pussycat, it needs it based on months not mileage. Think I’m 5,000 under it. I’ll drop the oil next weekend. Nope. Never. Fords and Vauxhall are a no go for me personally. My Dad had a Mk1 Focus saloon and a Mk 2(?) Mondeo, and out of all the cars he’s had they are the two I have no nostalgia or desire for. But then he had three 800’s so what do I know? The last 820 my dad had would cut out when driving. No matter what speed, 20mph/70mph the engine would die. But would start back up. No idea what the cause was but he got Rid of it and replaced it with a Mk1 Focus.
  21. Thanks all. Will address @Zelandeth @RoverFolkUs and @Matty first. I checked the pump, as there is a bottom hose which I imagine does the sucking given the top hose leads straight to the air bags. It is indeed sucking, so I imagine for now the new compressor is going the right way. Techstream, bless it, has played nicely today and gave me access to the error codes. I’m back to the same one I had before - continuous current on the compressor. So it’s good to know that the old pump probably still works! I managed to clear the codes, run around after I managed to get the height adjustment to run, hence how I found out which way it’s pumping. I observed the bags. Nothing happened until towards the end where I heard a hiss. The hiss is coming from the drivers side again, from the new bag, which seems to not be seated correctly. Not at all good news, given this part is one of the ones replaced. However, I noted a few things on Techstream for the suspension system. Apologies for the glare. A bit closer… Fairly sure they should be the same, although I’ve got nothing to base this on yet. However, if RL is properly out then that’s also the new sensor that was fitted. Doubt I’d get a refund on the air bag as it was an eBay job, but if the new sensor has failed then that’s an easier process as I got It from Milners Off Road. Im going to try and ask two places and see what they say without them mentioning coils. As for @sdkrc- not sure it would be cheaper than a lease now! I have in my head one of my last cars (as in ones I want to work on, restore kind of thing) is a Land Cruiser Amazon. Even with this ungrateful pig of a thing I’m still in that mindset, because when I buy one I know it’ll need work and I’ll do everything on it. But this thing? This is meant to work.
  22. I do! My Peugeot 107, which is overdue a service actually…
  23. I haven’t enough postal energy to be postal across two cars. So the Land Cruiser is saving this one’s arse - for the moment.
  24. Got to the car today, plugged the main relay back in and the ECU. No dice. Still won’t start. Gives a click then absolutely nothing. BUT - the ECU light now goes off. That’s an improvement, so I’m inclined to think the relay is OK again. Couldn’t hear the fuel pump so I’ve taken it out to check the relay again just to make sure the fuel relay part is working Ok, or at least strip it and give it a clean with contact cleaner. The ECU doesn’t provide any lights, so I don’t think the ECU is in fault. So I will now look at the neutral switch and see if that’s now playing silly buggers. I’ve also taken the battery out to charge as I’m not sure it’s exactly flush with angry pixies.
  25. That mindset alone is enough for me to scrap the car. Ive asked in places and specifically said “I’m not interested in coils, I want the original system to work” - and more often than not I get “you should use coins m9 they’re more reliable”. These fucking Lampards wouldn’t stand for it if they went to the hospital with a bruised shin, only for the doctor to say they should amputate it because a prosthetic can’t be bruised. Does my tiny fragile mind in!!!!
