  1. When was the photo taken though? Specials and one-offs built in the early 50s were old hat by 1960-62. They were all outclassed by the Mini, Sprite, Herald and 105e Anglia, and then the MOT test killed off most of them. The buildings in the photo look institutional to me - a school, college or hospital rather than a factory.
  2. I think we can all see where you are coming from, but all you are legally required to do as an owner is to notify if your own V5 is incorrect. How they fix it is up to them. If they have enough individual complaints about a particular issue they will do something about it properly, but otherwise it really isn't your fight. As said, remember that you are dealing with people who are just doing their day job, and for many of them it isn't a great job.
  3. Yeah but the trouble is he would never get any work done, too busy checking out the 1970s light fittings, and all the old logbooks in the basement, and then there are all those Welsh girls...
  4. Dez, surely if you had not been checking up on your car on DVLA every day, like most of us, you would not have been aware of this "problem" as you see it? And I think if I received a new but correct V5 unexpectedly, I would just shrug, and put it in the file with all my other odd V5s. And get on with something else. Just saying.
  5. Fifth hole for brake adjustment was a bit of a BMC thing but they don't look like any small BMC wheels that come to mind.
  6. I think it's metal, probably aluminium, and the front panel has been dented and pushed in, which is why the bonnet doesn't fit.
  7. Absence of windscreen wipers - and window frames - is it a sports car with a separate hardtop?
  8. Thanks for that, I will make a few enquiries. I reckon I sold it in March 88. Curiously I remember the address of the previous keeper in Gloucestershire (though not his name) but I think he hadn't owned it for very long. It would be great if it has survived but I wouldn't want it back - I think cars are linked to phases in your life and sometimes it is best to move on.
  9. Looking at the condition of the car, I wonder if it was awaiting the scrap man and the thing under the bonnet is a totally unrelated piece of scrap which has just been shoved in there.
  10. The circular thing inside the air intake is making us think air cooling. It appears to have a central shaft but surely that is too high to be the nose of the crankshaft, so it would have to be on a camshaft, dynamo, or idler shaft - it's not VW, Panhard used that layout but it didn't look like that, can't think of another. Alternatively - it is water cooled with a large radiator projecting up into the bonnet bulge, and the circular device is a cooling fan motor, ex aero or industrial as cars didn't generally have electric fans then. Windscreen does look 100E ish. or early Hillman Minx. But they are not early Minx wheels, which would have been 16" 3 stud. None of which helps very much!
  11. Are you sure those are Ford wheels? 100E has a larger PCD, Consul are 5 stud, and it's too early for 105E which are also a different style.
  12. Dez, if people are taking the piss, it is because you seem to be taking your favourite subject far too seriously. Most of the digs are intended to be good natured, maybe not all, but that's life. It's all about old cars at the end of the day, and having fun and (occasionally) transport from them. They are just old cars, nothing more. To use your analogy, does it really matter if there is a bit of wob in the panels?
  13. I do hope that Dez can get this thing on the road sooner rather than later. Then he can just worry about whether it is going to start in the morning, like the rest of us.
  14. You are taking all this stuff far too seriously M8. I know zilch about computer search systems, but is it possible that your industrial scale DVLA bashing has alerted them in some way, and they are wondering why somebody is so interested in such an obscure group of vehicles? Not suggesting you are being in any way dishonest, but sometimes it's best to keep your head down. Just saying.
  15. I may actually have sold it in 88. The buyer was a youngster who was into 1950s style, and I would guess not too capable mechanically, so it's probably long gone.
  16. 1962 model imported in 66, but I know little about its history. Bought it in about 1978 - heard that the local MOT station had it for sale, and by the time I remembered to go and see it the price had got down to £75 because nobody wanted it. It had an MOT and was quite sound underneath with new sills, but the body was poor, so I did a running restoration, brush painted it with Woolworths Gloss, and ran it as a daily for several years. It was very reliable, though I did a couple of engine rebuilds in the time I had it. Sold it the mid 1980s for more than £75 due to a house move, and it was still on DVLA last time I looked, but I never saw it again. Beautifully designed and built, quite roomy and comfortable, and a proper Italian car to drive, although a little underpowered. No spare parts availability , so nearly everything had to be made from scratch, mended or adapted, and even the Lancia club was not very clued up about it, or interested, frankly. Lovely thing. I'd have another one, maybe a series 2 which has a bit more character. Any questions, please ask....!
  17. I had exactly that model. Would recommend, but good luck getting parts for it.
  18. I have French air imported specially for the tyres of my 2CV, and I can tell you the difference in ride and handling and the quintessential Citroen experience makes it well worthwhile. Though since Brexit it is looking increasingly cost-effective to drive to Paris and blow up the tyres actually on the site of the old factory, so I am looking into that.
  19. Ah the more powerful engine explains it. With 169hp and 70 mph the Cd seems to be about 0.52 which is still not too bad. Top speed in the shorter/lighter body would probably be much the same, as the weight affects acceleration more than top speed.
