  1. Whilst on poking around underneath, the exhaust hanger was missing. Some Golf GTi ones ordered, same part used on the 100. It's great having a VAG car as they just launched the parts bin at it and parts had a long life so it's rarely bother ordering them. Whilst cleaning it out, I found my Wera bit set. Thought I'd lost this moving house, not seen it in 12 months. Bonus. I promise I'm going to book the MOT tomorrow. It's been left too long. Still, a summer anniversary for an MOT is the best, no faffing about in the winter. Other jobs planned, timing belt. I'm waiting for this to come back in stock, can't do the job without it. https://www.ultraperformance.co.uk/5-cylinder-crank-locking-tool-aby-adu-3b-7a Otherwise, all systems go for the MOT.
  2. Jesus I put this on the long finger didn't I. Works been horrid busy and I've not had much chance to sort this between can't be arsed itis and work being a bitch. Anyway. Horn is loud. Suitability loud for a German barge. 20220609_173226.mp4 20220609_173226.mp4 Washers wash. Albeit not that well, it's a Halfords non return valve, wonder if the OEM VW ones are better. MOT worthy however, they get water onto the screen. Have to investigate why headlamps dont wash anymore though. 20220609_173217.mp4 Underside has a coating of Lanoguard. Easy to put on. It nearly took the entire 2.5 litre tub though but it's probably twice the area of a small car underneath, overhangs for days...
  3. Probably but I'm betting they've not been told. If it's historically registered no one knows nor is there anyone looking. Unless it's involved in an accident and the cops look over it forensically.
  4. 4wd too! Maybe it lived in that barn behind it.
  5. Exactly and most decent independent garages know about them too
  6. They're not terrible cars. They eat power steering racks and they're not cheap. Dad later had one and my mother has one still. Dad's was a 138bhp one and was very tired when he got rid of it. It had 3 front window regulators on it. Mam's is a 163 one too, high spec with the spheres. It's also got 378,000km on the clock, lots of rattles, paints tired, rear suspension bushings are gone and needed new injectors last year but it's still soldering on. Drove it last week and it's not as rapid as I remember but it still rides well and pulls well enough apart from a wheel that needs balancing badly. A handsome car, if you're getting one get a diesel. The DW engines are great, better than any of the muck BMW was churning out at that time. And leave a few hundred aside for a reconditioned steering rack as they all eventually leak.
  7. They're not a bad car. We had a facelift one many years ago, dad sold it with 200,000 miles on it and it was still going strong. They got a bad rep early on as they had a bit of a long service interval and had a tendency get a little sludgy due to neglect (sometimes shitting turbos due to starvation). However they're pretty solid, the 110bhp ones suit the car and I think the facelift mk1 still looks nice. It was only a 5sp but it had all the toys being the VTS+, it was geared for the motorway too so didn't miss the extra cog. Buy one with a service history that's been looked after, any of the ones that have made it this long will probably keep on going. The same engine was used in practically everything at one point; Fords, Volvos, anything PSA, Suzukis, Minis I think too. Only time we had trouble it was self inflicted where I ran it dry (dad still winds me up about that) Change the filter and a few squeezes of the built in primer and away we went again. I miss my C5s, I'd two 2.0 ones like @maxxo here has and shared the 1.6 facelift with Dad. Solid solid cars, it's only a shame that the later ones, the MK2 weren't nearly as good.
  8. That's amazing and not even that expensive for what a thoroughly looked after car with plenty of loving work gone into it. There's probably idiots trying to sell Pandas that have been rusting in a barn for more than this.
  9. I should also explain that I've got two other old cars and they bring their own benefits and I can put them aside and enjoy working on them when the weather's nice. Plus all the benefits as others have mentioned. But anyway, both have advantages. And disadvantages. But I enjoy them both.
  10. So I've had my 1.5Dci nearly new Mégane for 3 and a bit months. Done 3,500 miles in that time. So far it costs me £200 per month in a bank loan. I fill the tank once every 3 weeks. It does 60mpg. Also half the cost to insure vs my old P11 Primera. So effectively, it's about £100 p/m to have a 2 year old car that I just get in and turn the key with another 3 years of manufacture Warranty left. It's amazing not to have to get underneath it to change a fucked drop link or a seized caliper, what people forget is that shit gets old, especially when it's wet and cold in January freezing your arse off fighting with rusty bolts. Honestly, fuck that when you need to get to work otherwise you loose money.
  11. Bentley R Type. 4.6l straight 6, apparently good for the ton and a bit more. What a spot though.
  12. Cleaned the Audi. Not sat in it for a while. Christ it's comfortable, swathes of blue velour. Can't wait to eventually get it going again.
  13. Also maybe tyre pressures as it's been sitting idle waiting for all that hard work. Might be slightly low you know. Fucking brilliant work however.
  14. That the tyres are ancient. Pre-2000. Like if it's 219, it's 21st week of 99 (or 89..)
  15. For what it's worth, Windows 10 is fine for day to day use and that was coming from a big fan of 7. It's pretty mature now, you could customise it so it looks like 7 if you like. Only real gripe with many of the OSs since XP, is that a lot of the really usefu settings and tweaks are buried in menus/pages that are hard to find and haven't changed since Windows NT/2000. That gripe applies to 7 also. Otherwise, it's a stable, useful OS.
  16. 60.1 real MPGs on the last tank with the little donkey 1.5d Mégane Very happy with it.
  17. Liking the new Blingo @dollywobbler Hope it serves you well, proves you can't go far wrong with a practical French diesel, don't get rid of this one 😅 Had a feeling you were about to buy one when you did the review that N/a diesel berlingo and you got the better engine for it, helps keep the milage off Betty and save money at the same time with the price of fuel.
  18. Occasionally work with another Paramedic who's also a car enthusiast, and we've both long agreed that these would be a smart buy to make a bit of money on cos impending FOWAARD blue oval tax.
  19. Fucking mint colour. Would.
  20. That's typical VW, Billy basic one's are really povvo spec. It felt like you're being punished for purchasing a cheap VW. Want the badge? Prepare for the misery.
  21. My 2020 Mégane is the exact same, but it means the cupholders is closer to me which is a bonus
  22. Probably not, don't think I'd be travelling that far in a series.
  23. I swear that lives somewhere near me, anywhere near Huddersfield?
