  1. Ha, that's great. Let's just hope it's comfortable to start with. These might help.
  2. First order arrived in 4 days which is quicker than stuff I've ordered on ebay for my daily! I then started on the fuel tank & straps. Removed the control arms on the rear axle & any brackets for the brake lines, exhaust & fuel line clips. I intend on getting as many parts media blasted, so I can paint clean metal. Bushes should arrive today so I can burn out the old ones before painting the arms.
  3. I've ordered a pile of things from rock auto which should be here Friday. Parts are ridiculous cheap even with shipping & taxes.
  4. Took off the external fuel pump & the inline filter. I'd say these are oem parts by the look of them. Inline pump works but the gauze inside could be split so I'm going to order a new one. Also put some bilt hammer deox in the tank for a clean out. I'll leave it in there until tomorrow then swill it out.
  5. I had a chance to do a few jobs this morning. Jacked up the rear, removed the drums for a look as I have new shoes & wheel cylinders which were supplied, removed the rear shocks which were absolutely shot then pulled the fuel tank. The filler neck rubber is perished as is the one way Valve rubber seal on top the tank but the valve works fine. I removed the fuel pump housing for an inspection & found the filter sock dirty & torn. I took some pics inside the tank & discovered loads of grit. The fuel was so bad I couldn't even light the spilt fuel on the floor. Took a few pics of the underside of the car & I'm really pleased there's only mild surface rust. I just need to work out the best way of treating it. Should I remove the axle, knot wheel, deox thrn underseal or just hand paint underseal onto the substrate that's already there? So the fuel tank needs cleaning out & then I'll paint it black. I need to work out how to use rock auto parts & order a few fuel related parts.
  6. Nothing to report on the car yet as I'm on holiday. I did join an fb page for specific ford ltd's based in America. I had a message from a guy claiming to have owned the car in the UK. I messaged him & he sent me some details & se pics of it when he first collected it in 2018. This is his message. It has quite interesting history Original owner was in the military from Oklahoma. It came in to UK via raf greenham common in 1989. Was used till 95 then put into storage in 97 where it has been until 2018. I did quite a bit of work to your car to get it running, it had been sitting in a warehouse since about 1991 when I bought it. I had it running after I went through the whole fuel system. I removed the tank had it refurbished fitted a new intank pump and sender unit and a new injector. It ran OK but not perfect. There is an external pump aswell which might have given up so try that first.
  7. I haven't touched the car yet other than sitting in it & bouncing the rear suspension like uncle Buck. I need to sort a clutch on my daily then I'll crack on with the Ltd.
  8. I've tried Google to see how or what to remove smog wise but literally no information. The carb is actually single point injection so I was looking to possibly remove & fit a carb but again I don't know enough to know what carb to go for. Rock auto seems massively cheap. £13 for a brake caliper, plus post & tax but still really cheap. That's interesting info on the 'on base' use. I think this was imported & did very few miles over here.
  9. I just googled a talbot solara & the side profile is very similar!
  10. I found the original ford dealership badge in the car. Fred Jones ford dealership are based in Oklahoma so confirms the smog sticker for Oklahoma in the windscreen making the car built & owned in one state before export to the UK. It turns out Fred Jones was the biggest ford dealership in America at one point & is still in business today.
  11. The same holes are on the other turret too, just hidden behind the mass of wiring. Luckily I don't think this was a farm target practice kind of car.
  12. Sorted through all the spares today & other than brake pads & rubber brake lines everything is here to sort the chassis. I played around inside the car & noticed 2 scary things. Thr Heater control heat/cold lever is stuck in the middle & under the bonnet it looks like the heater matrix pipes have been removed! Also grabbed a pic of the oem wheels & the P slot hubcaps. The wheels are a massive 14x5 et28. I really like the hubcaps so I think eventually I'll get the wheels banded & refit the hubcaps & a fat sidewall tyre.
  13. I don't know if it relates but on the v5 it states ' customs concession, visiting forces.
  14. Yep nearly all parts are interchangeable.
  15. This had been on marketplace for ages & I was slowly watching the price lower to a more affordable price. It turned out to be a 6 minute drive from my house so it was rude not to go take a look. I'd promised myself before I was 50 I'd either build a kit car or buy a yank tank. I turned 50 last October!! It was imported, Registered & lived on an American Air force base for over 20 years. Previous owner bought it as a father son project but unfortunately, his son became ill so his health became the priority. The car needs all new brakes, wheel cylinders, shock absorbers etc but luckily that's all supplied. Biggest stumbling block is the 3.8 V6 engine has single point injection & this seems to be playing up. Apparently it ran perfectly well when parked up but now splutters & dies. So I'll definitely be looking for advise on the 308 Windsor engine issue. It can't be too much as the car has a genuine 37000 miles in the clock! The car is so clean it still has most of its factory decals. No rusty holes just mild surface rust. The lower trim has been removed & all holes welded up. I'm going to colour match the lower section then use steel wool & soap to nib off any surface rust on the body, then boiled linseed oil & white spirits as a varnish My plans are to sort the brakes, suspension & get it running however I've been advised to rip out all the smog stuff & then look into getting the 14" factory steel wheels banded so I can use the oem P slit hubcaps. Enjoy & any feedback & help with the engine issue would be great & how to remove the smog stuff.
  16. Love an old Lexus. Here's mine. 2003 Gs300. 3litre 2jz, few mods & still ongoing. Bizarrely is clean air zone compliant too.
