  1. There's the other kind of Tesla driver. The 40-something company car driver who does lots of motorway miles and was forced/coerced into giving up his diesel rep-mobile because of dirt-cheap company car tax. His life revolves around range anxiety and charging points. He trundles up the motorway at 50mph, aggravating HGV drivers. In recent months he's become overweight due to stopping at every service station he passes. His wife is no longer physically attracted to him and while he's stuffing his face at Cobham services, she's stuffing her face with the milkman (who ironically has switched from electric to diesel), safe in the knowledge that her husband won't be back for a few hours.
  2. "I'm Alright Jack" 70-something retired bloke in a Korean crossover with an over-sized poppy cable-tied to the grille. Usually accompanied by brow-beaten wife of many decades and a tiny but vicious dog. Hogs the outside lane at a speedo-indicated 70mph and never moves over because anyone who passes is breaking the speed limit. If there's a merge-in-turn a mile down the road, he will drive down the centre of the road occupying both lanes to prevent people from "pushing in" as he sees it. Willing to execute an emergency stop on a NSL road to let someone else out of a side road. Brakes every time there's a slight bend in the road or an oncoming vehicle. Gets flustered by the presence of emergency vehicles, and is guaranteed to impede its progress significantly, even if it's travelling in the opposite direction. This is always someone else's fault. Only uses the outer lane of a multi-lane roundabout, even if taking the third exit. Eyesight deteriorating rapidly, but proudly proclaims that he's never had an accident in 50 years of driving, oblivious to the fact that he's caused several.
  3. Fantastic looking car and very low miles indeed! I love the door mirrors on these! I won a Y-reg Mk1 Vectra in a Roffle on here a couple of years ago. A 2.6 SRI estate, no less! It was a really good car and I probably should have kept it. Several months after I sold it, the DVLA kept sending me new logbooks for it for some reason! Never got to the bottom of that, but they did eventually stop!
  4. £1k for a Rover 75 showing 21k miles on its MOT earlier this year. Covered in dents and scrapes. https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1619560
  5. Last week I ordered a width-adjustable pull-up bar from Amazon. It arrived last night, so this morning I set it up in the bedroom door frame and tightened it as much as I physically could to be sure it wouldn't budge. I rolled the office chair underneath and hung my whole bodyweight off of it and it wouldn't budge. I yanked on it as hard as I could from every direction and it was rock solid. Satisfied that it was safe, I decided to give it a go. I thought I'd put something soft underneath just in case but decided it would be fine. I'm sure you can see where this is going... I managed about six reps and by this point I had complete faith in the bar. Just as I reached the highest point, the poxy thing came off in my hands as I pulled it full force into my chest. My legs were in front of me and I came down so quickly that I had no way to break my fall. I hit the deck arse-first with quite some force. Straight away I felt an acute pain in my lower back and realised this wasn't good. I tried to move and it was agony, so I lay there on the floor for a couple of minutes like a twat. Eventually I struggled to my feet but I'm having to be very careful about how I move. Fingers crossed I'll wake up in the morning feeling fine, but that might be wishful thinking...
  6. Well worth getting that done for peace of mind alone. Timing belts often get ignored on low mileage cars. I bought a V-reg Rover 200 BRM on 29k a couple of years ago. It was on its original belt, presumably "because it isn't due until 60k". This was despite the car being over 20 years old!!! Got it done ASAP and immediately felt much more relaxed driving the car.
  7. I'm more impressed that you managed to get a 1.5D from 0-60mph in one mile.
  8. As soon as I spotted it I thought it must be the one on here! Awesome looking thing.
  9. Nice to see a Mk2 Golf that hasn't been ruined!
  10. I think I passed your TVR on the A21 near Sevenoaks around midday. If not yours it was a very similar 51-plate and looked fantastic!
  11. Not long got back from a 100-mile round trip to the coast in my newly-acquired CLK320CDI. According to the trip computer it managed 43.2mpg. That's four-up and including a lot of stop-start traffic. I'm very impressed with it for a 3.0 V6 diesel. I think it could do a lot better on a long run. At 80mph in top it's not even pulling 2000rpm!
  12. Just to echo the above, when it comes to the Laguna 3, completely disregard the dodgy reputation of the Laguna 2. The Laguna 3 is infinitely better, and actually a very good car.
  13. Definitely worth getting it done if it's a car you enjoy owning/driving. £850 wouldn't buy you a lot of car if you were to replace it, and that £850 car might need the same spent on it anyway. Better the devil you know, etc.
  14. To celebrate their partnership with Tour de France, Hyundai released the special edition Santa Fe Wiggins. Extras appear to include a Wiggins badge on the wing and Wiggins-branded mats. They should have done a "Biggins" edition as well.
  15. That reminds me, a colleague used to refer to his car as "the AMG". The vehicle in question was a Mercedes A180d AMG Line powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine also found in cars such as the Renault Kangoo and Dacia Duster. He had lots of issues with that car. The only reliable bit was the Renault engine!
  16. A rather sorry-looking (and very beige) 10-plate Proton Genital saloon on eBay. Currently at £255 with a few days to go. What a dismal heap of Malaysian misery. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285392473026
  17. When they brought out the Vauxhall Adam, the three trim levels were Jam, Slam and Glam. The sporty 150bhp turbo version was simply called the S. Various trim levels and special editions were added afterwards. The colours had daft names as well, including Saturday White Fever and Papa Don't Peach.
  18. A tired but roadworthy Megane mistakenly listed in the parts section by a Renault specialist. Currently at £102 with six hours to go. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394737348914
  19. Been for my first proper ride today. I'm getting much more confident getting the bike up/down the ramp onto the patio in the garden. Sounds like a really daft thing to be pleased about, but moving the bike under its own power without being sat on it was causing me a huge amount of stress and anxiety. As a result I was overthinking it, which made things ten times worse! But today it seemed like a doddle. What was all the fuss about!? Really enjoyed being out on the bike and it rides really well! I'm delighted with it, and it really doesn't feel 24 years old. It feels very quick to me and sounds great. I was taking it gently, probably going slower than I would have been in the car at times! Definitely need to keep getting out to build up my confidence/experience. On a few occasions I found myself revving the engine when using the front brake, rolling up to junctions/roundabouts at 4000rpm like a twat! And at one point I must have ridden half a mile with my indicator still going. Ended up pulling away in 2nd a couple of times too. Can't wait to get back out on it again. I certainly need the practice!
  20. You can't go wrong at that price. Even if it's completely fucked (hopefully that's not the case) you've got nothing to lose.
  21. The Laguna Mk2 was a bit crap but the Mk3s tend to hold up really well. Dare I say it, more so than an equivalent Passat or Insignia! Appreciate they're not particularly inspiring though. Having said that, I wouldn't kick a Laguna coupe out of bed, especially if it was a 3.5 V6!
  22. Good choice! I'm still debating whether or not to go ahead with it. I've got until Sunday to decide, and from what I can gather the £1,000 deposit is refundable up until the point of handover. As someone who rarely spends more than a few hundred quid on a car, ordering a new one just feels weird!
  23. There was a lighter blue which was offered on the first batch of cars that I would've gone for, but it doesn't appear to be available anymore. I'm tempted to go for black. The fact that it's the cheapest option might have something to do with it! I think the white makes the black wheels/trim stand out nicely, but I'd rather spend several hundred quid on another car rather than some paint!
  24. Oh no!!! If it's any consolation, I don't think you were the only one to do that this morning. Got to be worth sorting it for a few hundred quid. As you say, that won't buy you a lot these days if you were to replace it. Lots of flooded roads round my way too this morning. I've had the 306 for years so know that the intake is very high (seems to be a French thing!). Really pushed my luck today though! I had to go into the deepest part to get round a stranded Mitsubishi Outlander, at which point the water was coming up over the front of the bonnet. The fan belt started screeching, the battery light came on and the power steering went. The exhaust was spluttering where it was completely submerged. I thought I'd finally killed it! Got out the other side unscathed by some miracle, just as the police were shutting the road!
