  2. I’ve turned into a sort of crap amnesiac diecast squirrel. I keep thinking I must get that Hotwheels RS2000 cos it’s looks awesome. Just now I’ve opened the drawer in my Welsh dresser and found one, along with an Impreza and an RS500 I’d also forgotten I’d bought. Iirc there’s still a GT40 in my glovebox
  3. I think I remember reading something similar over here, where some Eastern European HGV drivers were found to be ignoring driving hours altogether and were being flogged into the ground until VOSA caught up with them. One driver spoke about his relief upon being caught that he would finally be able to have a rest from driving.
  4. TBH I’m 17 stone and I’ve been using an old milk crate of uncertain provenance as a handy foot stool for years now. I expect I’m rather heavier than that engine. Not sure I’d want an engine landing on my face though if there was a sudden crate related failure.
  5. Just found out this exists, added it to my mental list of Things I Like. 6x6! ETA; for those really remote Tesco deliveries...
  6. Picking out the positives at least it is still there and intact. A friend of mine (now emigrated to Australia) had a narrow squeak with his Honda VFR, which needed the digi dash repairing. The owner of the garage had gone bust and the debt recovery firm had apparently seized all his* assets including all the bikes he was working on. The bike came back (in bits and dead as a doornail) but he could have had a fight on his hands to get it released.
  7. This is cheating really, because its a car I did buy and owned for seven happy years, but when my old Calibra Turbo reappeared on ebay for about a grand years after I'd sold it for 200 quid, it was like a knife through the heart. I absolutely adored that car, it looked absolutely brilliant, it was the best colour* 😒, it had that super Cosworth redtop engine, then quite unusual 6 speed box and all wheel drive. I'd sold it because it was the credit crunch, I'd just been laid off and my MoT man had suggested it wouldn't be economical to get through another MoT. Contrary to expectations it sailed on for another five years which is around the time it reappeared on Ebay with all the faults fixed but sans working 4wd. It's been sorned for the past 10 years or so, so god know where it went. Sadly I'd didn't have the money to rebuy my old car, as I'd just bought a house and we'd just found out we were going to have a second child.
  8. I can’t actually remember when they segued from crap old car to desirable classic. My Landy still had an agreed valuation of 1200 quid up until quite recently.
  9. Alan Partridge : These are all Bono's. Sonja : All these cars? Alan Partridge : Yeah. He's got the biggest collection of, hatchbacks in the country.
  10. It's interesting to see how they originally marketed The Simpsons (this came out in 1990). Everyone expected Bart to be the main character, and as such he was in all the merchandise, computer games, clothing etc. It didn't take long for them to realise that Homer was the breakout character, and the merch was altered accordingly.
  11. My white goods Nissan is temporarily* out of action with a broken wiper motor (it had actually flooded and was full of rusty water). So I broke out the old stager and set off into mid-Wales. It was one of those lovely journeys where I didn't need to rush, I could tootle along at my leisure and enjoy the scenery. Today I also got the vital (unique to Ducati and Triumph) wheel valve stem, so I could reassemble the Triumph. I'm a bit torn on this bike, its nowhere near as nice to ride as my old bike and nowhere near as usable. But... it looks amazing (always had a penchant for big round headlamps) and sort of ticks a lot of boxes. In the right colour (black) you could definitely see it as a biker gang bike, it also has classic appeal, because Triumph, and is sporty in terms of performance and intent. It is a little bit Land Roverery to drive ride as well, a bit ponderous, but surprisingly agile, and nice for low speed bimbling. Edit; It also has a hilarious* design flaw, whereby a flat rear tyre stands the bike up off the sidestand and tips it over to the right. Luckily I'd parked next to my shed when this happened so no damage occurred.
  12. My dad owned and then binned off one of these, a 1940s launch model Landrover 80 in Cockpit (Ooer!) Green, one of only 3000 produced. Of course when my dad owned it in the 60s it was just another shit old car, but cable knit sweater wearing, CAMRAphile beardy murderists would mud wrestle their own grandmother for a chance to own one these days.
  13. At least replacements are easily available. Also, better it happened at home than on the motorway...
  14. Looking forward to seeing Montgomery, Mainwaring and Harris tyres to appeal to the patriotic British market.
  15. Hot on the heels of the newly released Maestro, check out what's just appeared in Oxford Diecast's launch schedule
  16. No shite but several million quids worth of tractors/forage harvester
  17. I think Triumph later admitted to making their power figures up to suit whatever the opposition were quoting. My 955 is getting a bit of attention at the moment. It’s a poor starter, has a battery drain and really needs new fork seals and a chain/sprockets. More pressing was a persistent air leak on the rear tyre. Having investigated it turned out to be a cracked tyre valve stem. Annoyingly Triumph use those tiddly undersized stems Ducati use, not the car type ones most Jap bikes have. Still, gave me a chance to fit a sideways valve so it isn’t so fiddly to do the tyre pressures. I did get a pang of sellers regret the other day, having encountered a lad on an old 90s CBR 600f on the trumpet road out from Ledbury, much more agile and with better turn in. I am wondering if I might get another of these instead, it was much more usable.
  18. I'm amazed the parts are so cheap in Australia. The cost of living (with the exception of fuel) is much higher in Aus, especially when you factor in health insurance and other necessaries. That said the Land Cruiser is an Australian icon, especially the J70 and old 40 series versions. They don't really have the rust issue we have in colder wetter (saltier) climes so they last forever. Australians tend to identify with the rugged outback image, even if they live in the burbs and several thousand km from the bush, so Chelsea (Sydney?) tractors are fairly common. People who actually live or work in remote areas tend to use quite a narrow range of vehicles, for which spares are regularly available. Parts backup is all important for places like Australia, so there are probably loads of say, Landcruiser parts in every settlement in the country. I hadn't really appreciated that the Land Cruiser is really two model lines either. They sell an off road line (that we don't get in the UK) and a comfort line (that we do). The off road line is much more basic and old fashioned and doesn't conform to modern emissions laws, so is only sold in a few markets, usually the developing world, Saffrica, Canada (for special purposes only) and Daanunda.
  19. Have a Landrover truck with special lowering rear suspension as a reward!
  20. Anyone know what this one off prototype is based on?
  21. You don't see many old Land Cruisers, anything pre 90s (VX) is vanishingly rare these days, even the two VXs I remember seeing driving around my way have gone now. They were never that common to begin with in the UK.
  22. What that needs is a hilariously geeky 100 page thread on Pistonheads or something, which results in no one being any the wiser.
  23. Knowing TVR it's probably the door handle or the bonnet release.
