  1. Is there any Retroshite type Sunday morning meet in the south east ?  Let’s say within 1 hours drive  of Slough/Windsor, with a good selection of old tat present …..where a beat up old Frontera might not look too out of place…..I find most of the “classic meets” local to me are a bit too posh…..

On the river carpark. Didn’t know there was one there. I’ve occasionally gone to Walton bridge club meetings, but parking is very limited.

There is another one that happens the second Sunday of every month at The Black Swan in Ockham, no issue with parking as they have a massive overflow field out the back.....but you wouldnt see much in the way of old chod there unfortunately......unless you count my e34!

A good venue, as others have mentioned. Another meeting there would be ok. Closer to me blackbushe airport, nr camberley,  has a good cafe and parking, and even closer Fairoaks airport has a very good cafe and parking near chertsey.

If you are looking car meet near Chertsey I can recommend the one that take place in Runnymede the last Sunday of each month.

I go to it fairly regularly in the summer months.

A decent mix of American, high end exotic, traditional MG, Morris stuff, 80/90 Fords and I'd say about 5-10% of the turn out is this kind of stuff.

Link to Frontera folder below. There are six brochures but they scanned much better as jpegs rather than pdfs. Best to download them to view full size.

Clio 1990 French brochure only, sorry, but still tres bon!

Am working on the E34 from 1995. It's a big 40 page brochure as well constructed as those 5 Series.

    Thanks for your thanks!

    Brilliant, thanks again :-)

I've been scanning the photos and was going to ask if there was a 405 there at all? Maybe I'll take one of mine next year to help with that situation?

Yes please......I understand while the crowd isnt fussy a phase 1 GRD Estate would be especially popular with at least 1 attendee next year

  6. Really good day out..... saw so many of the cars I grew up with, that an uncle owned, or dad owner....or dad test drove at some point....that I owned at one point....or a mate owned and we used to go on trips in.....and the best part for me was the condition of a lot of the stuff was what you'd expect from a 25-35 year old honest original motor.

Having not been before I thought my old Frontera was gonna be a bit tatty but  Soundwave was spot on, there was a great mix of restored minters but honest original ( rust plebs, laquar peal etc) motors too, with zero snobbery regarding condition, people just happy that these unexceptional cars still exist. Some fella actually put a pic of the frontera up on Twitter while we were queuing to go in.

Great to hear the clatter of an XUD diesel again....like a friend of mine said....it was the sound of our youth. The only car missing to complete the day for me was a Peugeot 405....they have completely disappeared it seems.

Regards the 1990 camry, I had a brief chat with the owner, the car is completely original with only minor touch ups. It looked like brand new.

It's alright, lots of tatty stuff about as well as the shiny ones. I'll be taking a Rover 200 with no lacquer on its roof, if that's any comfort!

Thanks...I do feel better for knowing this.....she'll fit right in!

@TheXUDfiles  I would have agreed with you until I went to my 1st in 2018.  I didn't like the sound of it so didn't go to the first couple.  Once I'd been you couldn't keep me away.

Yes there are polished cars but there's plenty of more honest looking chod in the classic parking which is well worth going to see on its own.  The atmosphere is wonderful despite the terrible music and occasional silly costumes.

There's a lot to see, some of it really rare.  The people are far nicer than the usual classic and sports car crowd and best of all there's Autoshitters all over the place to wander round with.

I'm glad to read there is some more honest chod in the parking area.....I'm going for the first time this year  in my 26 year old honest survivor, lived the life of a unexceptional car,  Frontera......I was thinking before this post perhaps it was a little too tatty for the parking area....good to know

  9. Interested to see how you get on with this, I still think these are one of the best looking estate cars made.

Regarding your boost leak I am sure you know you can buy kits for this (maybe you have one) .......or you could do it the tight arse way I did.....1 sradder valve, some 50p plumbing fitting from wickes and pump of your choice.....some pics below of how I bodged my setup together...

  10. I'd never purchased second hand tyres before  I bought my frontera but even a budget tyre is £90-100 for the 255/65/16 size fitted to my jeep and I think I do maybe 1500 miles in it a year.

I got 2 GoodYear Wranger, 255/55/16 for 50 quid total. Date code 2016 but really good condition. If I went for the same new tyres they would be 210 quid fitted.

I have 2 x Nexen roadian out the back at the moment, 2017 date code, very similar condition to the Goodyear tires,  must 6 or 7 mm on them, 10 pounds for both tyres on facebook marketplace. Okay I need to fit them but I think they retail at £80-90 each fitted new.

At that kind of saving I think part worn is worth considering, depending on  age and visual inspection of the tyre before fitting.

I've seen the same happen for specific E39 and particularly E38 parts. Usually its limited to the more desirable parts that once were more plentiful though, certain OEM wheels in particular. E34 could be so rare now that everything is creeping up by now.

You can still pick up a nice 518 or 520 for what I think is a fair price, like less than 2K.

Anything with a bigger 6 cylinder or V8 engine that isnt a basket case is between 5 and 10 K now.

They are a nice car though, I had a chance to compare my e34 535i sport against a e39 530d Sport a few years back....over all the e39 was  better at being a car but I thought my car was actually a better steer, it was less numb than the e39.

  12. Its a hard one.

I have my e34 10+ year now and while second hand parts at one time were cheap and plentiful  Ive noticed in the last 2 year the price of bits creeping up quiet significantly. I saw someone asking 1K for a sport interior the other day.......

Before you commit have a good poke at the sills and floor.......even the one that look good can be rotten. I know this from my own experience.

I am also sentimental about cars, spending much more than they are worth fixing them because I like them ( or like the way they make me feel) , not focusing on what what they are worth at the end of the process. Ive never regretted spending money on a car I like, especially one with sentimental value.

The e34 you describe.....it sound like one to drive around and gradually improve bit by bit over an extended  period.

  13. We've had ours since 2016. They are like a limo in the back.

1.6 Auto, with the cruise set at about 60 it will return 47/48 MPG on a run.....thats calculated manually too.

Zero complications with these,  SOHC engine, proper auto box , everything is well designed & easy to work on.

Just a great everyday motor that you can jump in and know you will get where you need to go.
