Loving the stories on this thread. Some of you have partner shiters and some not.

The late Mrs_Boom had a 1989 Corolla in white when we met. Although she had given it to her previous husband when she split with him. It was more use to him than her as she worked in That London and was terrified of driving. She had a (very minor) bump in said Corolla a few years before while putting a cassette into the tape player. She never drove again.
To coax her back into a car, I bought her a 2004 New Beetle which she never drove either (my neighbour has it now).
Odd how fear can overtake and rule someone.
The Corolla was a nice steer (I borrowed it  when the ex husband went into hospital for a bit) although it had been owned by a Chinese takeaway before, and the interior stank of fish! (Well, that was the reason I was for told for the smell anyway).
Eventually it became too frilly, and had some sort of air blockage making it run silly rich. It got carted round to the local garage who practically folded it up and had it ready for cubing in about 30 minutes. The Mrs was furious, glad I wasn’t to blame for that one!

When we met back in 2008, MrsDC was driving a three-year-old Yaris that she'd owned from new.

Sixteen years on... still driving the same Yaris.

Looking a bit frilly underneath these days, and with plenty of battle scars, but still plodding on.
She's announced her intention to drive it until it's only fit for scrap, so we'll see if it makes it to its twentieth birthday next year.
I would scoff, but this thing has outlived fourteen of my cars over the same timeframe - so I'll just appreciate its cockroach-like tenacity...

    Back to the story.
Before it was explained to me that my talents are probably best used elsewhere I had a flick through the application forms of our new breed of taxi drivers and noticed a couple of common denominators with our aspiring Asians. Firstly, most had only passed their test a year ago, and secondly, they all seemed to have passed in an automatic. This sprayed WD40 on the seized cogs that lurk within my brain.
Wirral isn't Wimbledon, Wandsworth or Walthamstow. The vast majority of PH cars out there to rent are manuals unlike London minicabs as there's no fucking way any sane fleet owner who runs Mondeos would ever entertain having to deal with between 20 and 350 Ford Powershit autoboxes whilst still maintaining a profit. Even the few that had Passats and Octavias running DSG transmissions were having to bodge them with different oil to keep them on the road.
I therefore hatched a plan so cunning even Baldrick would spaff in his strides...

The Escort would have been a late 70’s one, the Riva for which he still has the foot pump for was a H plater so at the time maybe 6 years old. I don’t know the complexities of the deal but it had a paint finish on the boot like the singing detectives back, the radio fell out of the dash. I remember him taking me and my mum to the shops in it and the overwhelming smell of hot melting Russian plastic/rubber and us cowering in the back in case anyone saw us in it. We still laugh about it now actually. 😂

No, Korean. Not the one that has "democratic" in the name, the one that rather is.
Yes, one pond is almost 6 RON.
Now I'm hungry again! But behold what I've got for myself. It's my third:

I'm in, we're on time apparently. The train is completely booked. 4 Romanian cars, made at Astra Arad. Have no idea of the year. The locomotive is one made at Electroputere Craiova, I think sometimes in the '60s or '70s.

There was enough time for a slice of cheese pizza (7 RON) and a one litre bottle of water (8.5 RON), and even a cigarette. Now I'll be cramped for close to 100 minutes.

    And we're on the way:

Yes. Yes it is. So it's collecshun day. Still some hours to kill before leaving, so I'm still working. But let's go trough the checklist:

    Breakfast: coffee and cigarettes
Poo count: let's not go there.
Lunch: in an hour or so.
Weather: nice British weather we're having, a storm was here last night and more rain and heavy winds are expected.
Distance to car: google maps says 127 kilometers by car.
    Mode of transport: multiple.
    Destination: Buzău.

in better REV news, I have been informed the kingpin and bushes have been refitted and everything buttoned back up! I am very pleased to hear this, as this has been one of REV's longer-standing issues that was first noticed all the way back in 2021! so I am glad to see the end of it so to speak

and with that Duncan discovered the fun that is the Model 70 fasteners!
have to admit that gave me a good chuckle
however in the course of putting things back together, this was noticed!

which I find most interesting from a “I am a sad bastard who studies every nut and bolt of these machines” perspective
because one of the things written in the parts manual is

"STY403 Steering top plate (C/W 2x 5/16" BSF bolt x 3/4" long packed in sets) NOTE: For use with Left hand Steering lock when LP 1161 wheels (Store STY 474) are fitted"

(Dunlop LP 1161 wheels are the standard 10 inch Mini 21A2744 wheels that later Model 70's like REV have)

The thing, I have never been able to figure out what "Left hand steering lock" actually is! It’s not listed anywhere else in the parts manual apart from that note, but I have to wonder if the steering lock, is what Duncan has just made himself?

I think this might be something @Zelandeth you might want to check on TPA, especially as TPA is on 10 inch wheels when she started out life on 12 inch wheels

and then some other items where sorted out also

Wrong question, that is exactly why I asked here 😂
I have nearly finished the Laguna GT that has stood in the rain for 12 years due to a faulty gearbox. Drives nicely. After a lot of Work, it now has a MOT and there seems nothing wrong with the gearbox. Strange... GT means it has the Megane Sport engine
I will start driving and see what happens. I have presented the Car on here before. It is a shared project with a good friend who has just recovered from cancer.

Bought this last week as something to do.  It came with half a tank of pez so have a viaduct shot instead.

1.2 HLX with working City mode.  Paint is thoroughly knackered but it drives fine, and will do as a stop gap whilst I sort the Xedos out come MoT time next month.  I initially thought the tow bar was for trailer tip runs, but the seller used it to occasionally shift his MG Midget about.
