I think this ‘not premium’ thing seems to be a thing these days. Especially if you are a one of these Tim nice but Dim, PistonHeads types that reads What Car and talks in public about BiK figures and what tax rate they’re on.

Sad really. Once the country's most popular car for years running, suddenly becomes a thing of history. I think everyone's got some form of memory involving a Fiesta!

    Hi all,

It's been quite a while since I ventured on here to post anything. Not at all a reflection of this wonderful place, more on the general busy-ness of all things life.
For anybody who follows the mundane mutterings of CrapCarCollective you'll be well accustomed to the array of old shitters I've purchased over the last couple of years. My latest purchase however is considerably shitter than most. It is the 'infamous' Bray Clio.
This little munter is well known to any Irish old car fanatics, especially those of a Dublin/Wicklow regionality. I first spotted it back in 2017 and immediately wanted it. The lack of wheel trims, the differing shades of blue, the dents, the scratches. Perfection.
I wandered past it again in 2021 and earlier this year which is when I decided to leave a note. I heard nothing back and with its NCT (Irish MOT) having expired in May I naturally feared the worst. That was until my phone rings in early October. It was a pleasant lady offering me the shiters chance of a lifetime. A shonky Renault Clio with more battle scars than Simon Weston? Yes bloody please!
A price was agreed, and I collected it last Sunday. The weather was rather fitting for such a momentously mediocre event, lashing rain and gusty winds. The drive home was exceptionally uneventful. The 1.2 petrol powerplant under the frontally hinged bonnet ushers it along adequately and it seems well able to keep up with modern motorway traffic albeit stunted by the hideous weather conditions.
The interior is relatively clean and almost everything seems to work. The radio head unit has been nicked as has the interior light lens in an apparent attempt to disable the immobiliser. Any old Clio owner will know to run for the hills if theirs is equipped with a sunroof. The ridiculous placement of the immobiliser until directly in front of it means that when they inevitably leak it does so directly into the electronic gizmos. Thankfully this particular example is without a sunroof which should prevent any moist electricals and all the fun* that brings.
The interior door handles are cracked and so replacements will be needed. It has front electric windows. The time in which it takes to wind them back up can only be measured accurately with a calendar. The oil level dial on the dash works fine with the ignition on but dies once on the move (videos online suggest this is actually normal). The clutch is a little high, but the gear change is smooth. The seats are wonderfully comfortable and hold you securely whilst cornerning.
It failed its NCT on an exhaust leak and the airbag warning light which is constantly on. I also suspect another lighting issue, but the previous owner has misplaced the failure sheet.. It's booked in for a retest, but I may cancel and concentrate on getting it right during the winter. I'd hate to subject it salty roads. It deserves more.
Also, whilst driving home the indicators and hazards failed. There's no ticking noise or lights on the dash so I suspect a possible relay failure? Anybody got any ideas?
I'm a little busy with work at the moment so I'll try and post updates whenever possible. Let me know what you think!!

Mail call today. One I've been eagerly awaiting for a while.

    Hmm...

At long last! As a kid of the '70s, this is the  model, of a car I have idolised since childhood, that I've been waiting for. In recent times, Team Slot have done a slot car version, and Model Car Group have done a version of their lovely 1/18 scale RS in the right colours with Doyle's reg number. But I've always wanted it in 1/43 and this one is an absolute belter!

It is the brainchild of Tony from the Professionalmania site. He's had a few commissions done before, mainly based on the old 1/36 Corgi Capri, with various sets done, including nicely done code 3 gold versions, with specially designed packaging and a few dioramas, all in extremely limited runs. This year being the 45th anniversary of the series, Tony wanted to have another silver and gold Capri set made, but based on the Vanguards casting. Sadly Corgi got there first, so with the new RS2000 casting having been announced, he decided to have a replica of PNO made instead.

Along with the X-Pack RS I got earlier in the year, the standard bodied RS is a great casting. Tony went to great lengths with Corgi to get this one bob-on, for example getting the pin stripe painted on at the right height, stopping short at the tail lights. Corgi's own Signal yellow release has the stripe too high...

Even has the correct GB sticker on the bootlid. Fellow nerds will know that the real car was originally on Ford's press fleet, it's real registration number being  PNO 672R and given later plates for the show, along with the vinyl & sunroof. So the model has the correct-for-1977 F O R D lettering on the bootlid with the RS2000 decal on the right.
(The attention to detail even went to tampo printing a tiny radio aerial base on the driver's side wing, to replicate the one on  the real car, which Corgi's own RS didn't get.)

The RS casting doesn't have a sunroof cast in, and one of the most noticeable features about the real car was the specially fitted  Hollandia sunroof, to let more light in when filming, so it just had to have one. Corgi have done a pretty good job by simply printing a shiny section onto the simulated vinyl roof.

Being an earlier Custom-spec car, it has the correct Scheel roll-top seats, rather than fishnets.

So, I have model versions of UOO 303T and PNO 641T together at last.
Apologies for all the pics, but I think the packaging deserves a few too, as it is superb. (Designed by Tony as well). It also came with a miniature version of the original design cell and a specially designed version of the Vanguards collectors' card.

Currently in Ibiza. That's enough of a grin in itself but the particularly tragic grin was on the way over here on a TUI flight when I got excited to see an old 90s Britannia logo on the duty free cart.

We've had a young Robin visit us in the garden for a few weeks now. He comes morning afternoon & evening.
It was very young when it first came with barely any orange on its breast. Now has matured.
Will eat out of our hands.  It likes dried mealworms, bits of suet, cheese & also fruit  cake. If you sit out he just comes and hops about. Also likes to sing along to Jazz Fm !
    Makes me smile😁
