ETCHY reacted to Dobloseven in Made in Dagenham?
Just watching this for the first time. On the face of it an interesting social commentary on a lost age. But it's set in 1968 and they're still making Mk 1 Cortinas. However I've spotted a Mk2 1600E which would be in period, a Triumph Toledo which wouldn't, a face lifted Rover P6 ditto. I'm normally a very tolerant, easy going person, but for some reason this sort of thing annoys me intensely. Don't worry, I get some stick from Mrs D and the grown up kids about it.

I similarly hate war films that use the wrong tanks. I think it was “battle of the bulge” with Telly Sevalis and they used Walker bulldogs which I think came in the 60s. At least in Kelly’s heroes they made Russian T34s LOOK like tigers….

Nice old motors those.
Solid, dependable, incredibly British somehow. From a time when it was "something" to own a car especially a big-ish one, screams restrained middle class quality.
Criminally overlooked cars IMO.
Great buy, I look forward to updates.

Cool motors. DeLoreans rock but for me it's the LTD uber cool & sooooo '70's.

The LTD is lush. I always think of David Soul injuring himself when he jumped onto the roof of one in the starsky and hutch pilot.

Look at the size of the Micra compared to those monsters either side.
God cars have become horribly bloated.

A Mk3 Cortina particularly an early GXL or GT will always be distilled 1970's for me.

Don't feel bad. Even I know it was inevitable, I just didn't expect it to happen so soon. I see the brake discs have been sold off; they weren't very old, so if someone is going to get some use out of them, great. The tyres are/were all good too, and he says the engine can be heard running. Someone will get good life out of that.
I was shocked when @HMC told me about the rot in the chassis, which I knew nothing about, but then, I hadn't walked around under a lift for something like five years, and when I did, it all looked lovely.
Sad as it is to see Huggy like this, we can't complain. We've all had six years' entertainment out of him. He certainly did his job. RIP brave soldier!

I don't wanna be the bearer of bad news but that will probably be the final end of it. Naturally completely incorrectly advertised.

Got two massive record vices on the benches in the workshop (at work obvs). One as old as the hills, one a new version of the same. Got to say, you're right pal.

Crikey I had the Anglia, Reliant Regal, Rover P4 and the 100E.
I remember being excited about the Anglia as I bought it in April 1996 right when Vanguards were a new brand. I also struggled to find a model of one at the Swapmeets despite Dinky and Lesney producing it.

I’ll tell the tale of an outfit in the city I live in, Record Tools, they’re still going but only in name. Back in the sixties if you bought a vice from them chances are are you’d still be using it. Nobody ever needed to replace them! Needless to say they couldn’t have won a raffle profit wise so they ended up under Irwin who used the name to put on some vices you couldn’t clamp a shoe together on.

It’s an interesting point re durability. I’m preaching to the converted here but if they built simpler vehicles using higher quality components with a longer service life. That’s surely better from an environmental point of view. Obv ain’t happening as that doesn’t shift new unit sales and finance. Plus it would drive the costs and purchase price up.
