  1. OK so what do we have? It's a very well spec'd motor, 2.0 petrol turbo, Auto box and an allegedly recent cambelt. Being the Initiale model, it has a full complete of the finest French moo, which is now almost as mucky as the day it left rhe farmyard. The previous owner has installed a rather fancy Alpine headunit, which may be replaced for something a little more subtle... Note it has climate control too, and it works! There are a few recent stamps missing from the book, but the service indicator only states 'change oil soon' so I might do some detective work on that. I did go for some bravery points on the drive home, and opened the massive sun roof, it works nicely too. The split boot mechanism all works, and there is an industrial strength boot liner present too! The Snag List:- ● One of the alloys is apparently buckled badly enough to have failed the mot 'Tyre bead likely to become dislodged' ● NSF and OSR windows inoperative. ● One of the front wheel bearings is UTTERLY UTTERLY FUCKED. No two ways about this, how the fussbudget mot tester missed that I don't know, I genuinely thought it was going to shit itself on the way home. ● NSR tyre on the legal limit ( which isn't 1.0mm whatever the fuckwit tester said.) ● Headlamps cloudy - they'd better polish up as they are Xenon units! ● Dash dimmer doesn't work, most annoying! ● It may or may not need the rear discs and pads replacing. All in all, Im quite happy with bringing this home for a McDonald's less than a monkey.
  2. On the D5 Volvo, there are 2 engine mounts that vacuum assisted, and also very prone to failure. The diaphragm on the front one has split and so is letting by hence draining the vacuum from the rest of the system.
  3. I'm happy to report that many months on, there has been no reoccurrence of the above fault now that the boost pressure sensor has been replaced. I've just to replace the front vac engine mount and the resonator pipe wants replacing too...
  4. Yes, he went all Europe in it as I recall. He used to live on a nice street just outside the park in Boston. It has featured on these hallowed pages before...
  5. Blimey, Mr Peck's Xm still lives. He'd had a lot of money extracted from him year ago for all the high quality* welding. We looked after the oily bits that his normal garage didn't want to touch. I bought his Xantia estate from him when he first got this. The Xantia was leaking coolant from the heater matrix hose, but that was soon sorted, I shouldn't have traded it off to that fat twat in Norfolk for the Exclusive Estate that followed, that was total shit.
  6. Sounds like it may have been scrapped... http://ollr.createaforum.com/general-land-rover-stuff/what-happened-to-stf352h/
  7. This is true, but they want proper money for them - unless I go scrumping for one at the scrappers. Knowing my like I'll get served by "thirtyquidmate" again which has rather soured my recent trips.
  8. Well it seems this will become a long term member of the fleet - ultimately for No.1 daughter to learn to drove in. With that in mind I have resurrected the air con although, the condenser looks terrible, so this may only be temporary. Next I plan to install remote central locking. This isn't straightforward as there is no actuator in the Driver's door, so a bit of lateral thinking required. Typically I cannot find my stash of Citroën locking motors which I had plenty of. Buggeration.
  9. Remove the other lock nuts before anything else. You can buy a Vauxhall master key set for about £30 from the tool academy.
  10. I'll have a look when I get five minutes, I certainly don't remember seeing another lock.
  11. Very kind, thank you. I'll certainly need one, but I don't know if there should be a lock anywhere else on the bike... I've not discovered one yet! @comfysofa does yours have multiple locks?
  12. I'd leave then tint on the bootlid as you risk ruining the heating element pulling it off. Great job so far. Bastard! 🥺
  13. Sorry to see about the off, glad it isn't anything too drastic. Could you use bonnet pins in place of the bolts using similar devices to your hole locator above?
  14. Well very sadly we had to say goodbye to our beloved Hollie a few days ago, what follows now is untangling the web of insursnce, vet, specialist and EOL fees. I may have to drop the S40 for a quick sale price to cover off any invoices landing this way. The admin bit is really shitty to have to deal with when all we want to do is mourn her loss. She was fucking ace.
  15. If this is the 1.6 I don't think the timing belt is a bad job. I did the belt on my fiesta 1.4 tdci on the drive, only sticking point was the paper waterproof gasket getting displaced and me having to pull it all apart again to rectify it.
  16. Also i should say I was really lucky with this one finding the above linked engine manual. Having an idea of what the sensor values should be really aids testing.
  17. The A/c does actually make noises; when the a/c gas is low, you can often here it moving around the pipes. (sort of as if you have airnin thencentralnhesting),. Though the condenser looks manky, it does still have some pressure. The biggest issue with this was the temperature blender flap was stuck, it seems to have eased now I've moved it manually at the side of the heater box.
  18. A Sunday day shift at work can be rather a quiet affair, which means I could give the car a good scrub up. By this point I'd done about 300 miles in it and achieved a lowly 45mpg.l, I'm hoping that will improve now the car is covering a longer commute - the previous owner was doing less than 10 miles each way. The next thing is to get the front wheels balanced, and try and find the rattle from the front suspension - I suspect it is the top mounts. Also there is a modification to carry out on the engine mounting - originally there was a Hyundai part for this job which is NLA in the UK, I could buy a stainless one for a tenner from Aus, but I have a selection of large washers and a pillar drill... 'We can rebuild you, we have the technology.' This plate should reduce the vibrations through the body all being well!
  19. Update time: Taking stock of the now running Getz whilst I'm on a coach journey down to Spa Francorchamps for the GP. It is pretty straight with only on or two minor scrapes on the back arches. Inside is complete, but scruffy. The modern Pioneer headunit was a bit too annoying in use, so for now has been swapped for a Chinese DAB unit. I managed to get a replacement FM aerial from the scrapyard from 'Thirty Pound Graham' amongst a fuel rail (for testi g purposes but unrequired) and a window regulator for the S40. The old aerial had been broken off and it's base was seized to the roof. Some mild violence with some pipe grips later saw the replacement installed. I may fit a DAB adapter to it later so I can remove the magnetic one which looks a little untidy now. Also of note was the utterly crap handbrake, which to my surprise on this is a drum within the rear discs... You have to strip everything off to get into these, which is probably why nobody has bothered, I cleared out all of the dust, oiled the linkages and adjusters and cleaned inside the discs. As can be seen here, they were quite scaley. I then reassembled and used the adjusters to lock up the drums, before backing off one click. The adjusters here are very course and can be got at through an access hole in the disc. I still needed to tweek up the cables a little, and this got the handbrake holding at 3 clicks.
  20. Yeah all sounds the same as mine, now I just get a tiny patch where the LH wiper changes direction on the screen.
  21. Re: the fogging - I gave my front screen a good clean with some glass cleaner last night ( the good studd that smells like vinegar mixed with catpiss) and I can report that nonsuch fogging occurred on my journey home this morning. "Why dont you try it at home at home?" As Anthea Turner once said on her 'Aerobics a d Bean Flicking' dvd.
  22. Don't worry about it at all, I'll probably find it next time I borrow dad's van! 🫣 Hollie is currently under the care of a specialist in Wakefield, I am looking at at places that might buy a kidney to fund it.
  23. Mine does the fogging thing too, the cabin filter didn't look too bad on it, having been manufactured in 2019 although I suppose that is still 4 years ago!
