  1. After sorting the brakes on a neighbour's Outlander, I took a look under the Getz as the brake pedal felt rather longer the last time I used it... All rather damp here. The washers on the banjo bolt were so corrded they had just disintegrated! The local motor factor Spilsby Motor Spares keeps all these in stock so I took the Outlander for a road test and matched some new copper washers to the banjo bolt. I replaced the washers on the other caliper too. The Audi I managed to get a set of low pressure fuel pipes for, only to find that rhe German dickhead who removed them has cut about 3" off of one of them. Definitely not the set pictured in the advert! They are now useless. I shall clean the pump up whilst I await a refund and see what occurs. In other news, the former @mercedade 207 has been cured of it's cutting out/ non-starting. In the end a replacement underbonnet fuse box seems to have done the trick.
  2. So it started, as it often does, with a perusal of all the cheapish, localish, broken shit that was on ebay. This one wasn't listed cheaply and I'd left my gambling pants at home, so I settled for a different approach. A conversation with the seller via messages and a promise to view promptly if it didn't sell via the auction. You forget these little asides, dont you? You have these conversations fairly secure in the knowledge that most of the people on eBay are fine, upstanding, folk who wouldn't dream of pulling a seller's pisser when it comes to something like selling a car? Well now, imagine my surprise* when less than an hour after the auction finished, the only bidder pulled out of the purchase. The car's owner, Scott, was good enough to get back in touch and offer me a viewing of the car. There are one or two marks on the paintwork, but it looks very well on it's miles. The interior is very clean and a testament to the owner's late brother who has kept the car neat and tidy, but there is of course to be done or it probably wouldn't interest me at all! To do: Replace the battery and collect the car. MOT - last years advisories for rear discs & pads and both front arm bushes. Service - unused for at least a year. Roof inoperative - the biggun - but I like a challenge. There will doubtless be more as I work through the car, but it's a rare hen in that it's a 2.0 diesel with 6 speed box, full heated leather and auto lights/ wipers. Definately the right time of year to be getting into something like this I reckon.
  3. You need to report it within 24hrs to get an incident number from the police for your insurance claim.
  4. How the fuck has that gobshite Johnny Vaughan still got a radio show?
  5. It's just one of those things, don't sweat it. I did a diagnostic test on it and found a duff glow plug and both inner PDC sensors are moody. When I get a chance I shall investigate properly, but I've been attending the 207 which has had an intermittent non start issue for some time. I removed the underbonnet fusebox and when I tipped it over to unplug it, I got a hand full of water.
  6. He was famously inactive on the Axoc forum, he'd be logged on all the time but only ever posted once, that was him all over really. Fantastic guy that very few were lucky enough to meet.
  7. It'll be 10 years in March, it belonged to my late best mate before that, I think he bought it from the first owner (through me) around 20 years ago when I still worked in Dunmow and spotted the advert on eBay, it was 1/2 a mile away from the supplying dealer!
  8. Sam @beko1987 did that when I sold him my shit Laguna, he found a nice pair of binoculars hiding in it! I'm reminded of the time I stopped on the A158 and retrieved a 1/2 drive ratchet and a 21mm socket. They belonged to the garage I worked at and the boss had left them on the crank pulley of the van he'd asked me to test drive. Didn't half make a row when that parted company!
  9. It came in as a non-runner last year and since I fixed it, it has been providing sterling service save for the light knocking from somewhere that I'm hoping the ARB bushes will solve.
  10. This is partially for the interest of you folks, but also for me as my memory is selective at best. Current state of affairs: Audi A6 3.0 Tdi Avant Weep of fuel around high pressure pump rear springs saggy towbar electrics untested rh window switch pack intermittent Hyundai Getz 1.5d Front ARB inner D bushes worn NSF strut top mount bush worn Volvo V70 D5 Sluggish during cold starts Ax Vts Where to even start? Off the road for years now currently identifies as a shelf in the garage. I will update the various dramas as they unfold, but I wanted to keep my shite seperate from the sideline motors that I have occasionally.
  11. Yep I've knocked the balance forward for now, it's bound to be some oddly shaped speaker that nothing aftermarket fits. It's booked in on Monday for a new key, and long term I might have a smart repair on the paint on the bootlid.
  12. Its not a bad place to be at all. I've ordered some service bits (Im not sure when it was last done @HillmanImp I know you mentioned an oil change?), one of the rear speakers is knackered, I can hear water within the bootlid and a faint whiff of diesel about the front end, so there's only a few little things for me to fiddle with. All in all I'm liking it a lot.
  13. I scrolled back up expecting a portaloo, wasn't disappointed. I made it back, it is a cracking drive. I look forward to tinkering and tidying as I get to know it.
  14. Views here would be breathing taking if I weren't so out of shape and out of breathe just for getting out of the car! Thanks again to @HillmanImp I'm going tonenjoy this one.
  15. Final destination achieved, and my carriage awaits. A nice ride out and it's very nice. I'm looking g forward to the ride home.
  16. On the final train now, it's a modern electric commuter class.
  17. There's a proper toilet on here too, no increase in PC, but it's nice to know the need to perch on a glorified dogs bowl isn't prevalent here.
  18. Cor! I was going to try and blag an upgrade but this thing is pretty well appointed inside.
  19. Grantham to change for some proper trains. PC still 1, although there will be some localised air biscuits in the near future.
  20. Rauceby Station, close to the village of Greylees. The village used to be Rauceby Asylum, but was renamed when it was redeveloped into homes. History of Rauceby I suppose its good that the site has been reused, but it seems strange to have a railway line so very close to such an institution, or perhaps a snide form of population control?
  21. It is sitting heavy in an overly warm class 170 - the McMuffin that is, not the woman - I politely moved away from her as we boarded. It's looking like the day is waking up to be a dry and bright one which is good given the amount of rain we have had again.
  22. Most interesting interaction so far has been the drunk woman who has "been drinking Jack Daniels all night" who is now on the train wanting to go to Birmingham but has no ticket and no money, oh and her phone isn't charged. I do feel sorry for her, but I fear she has been the master of her own downfall.
  23. Breakfast is an McIndigestion and a large coffee. Offer here in the hope that it meets with @barefoot collection breakfast approval (tm)
  24. With a short drive to maternity... PC 1
