I waved goodbye to the daimler today, met an old forum friend ( @Sigmund Fraud ) and  recieved an old friend in a swap (VDP 1300)
Dr Fraud took the bold step of driving away in the Daimler, i thought id cracked its reliability issues but it likes to play up when your are least expecting it- so its far from certain he will make it back under its own power- he is definitely braver than i am!
It was great to meet up with Sigmund again, and good to have the VDP 1300 back.  The Daim also now has a far more skilled and knowledgeable owner to care for it.
After the ministrations of the Dr, The VDP1300 now sits at the correct height, has working locks, has nicer carpets, a gearbox service and a bit of a tune up, amongst other things.

No it's cool, he bought it to sell on again, it's a bit of a experiment to see if cleaning it up properly and doing a few little jobs will make more money though a auction like the ACA.
It's already all booked in and being collected next week now

I've been helping a mate prep this hunk-a-love for auction.

What a magnificent beast, 1974 Opel Commodore 2.8 GS that was registered new in Bury St Edmunds and spent all its life in the area, straight six with two twin choke carbs and a stainless exhaust it sounds amazing and goes like the clappers!

We've been through it fixing a few small faults and mostly cleaning and polishing it and it now looks stunning. I've got the option of buying it but it's a bit big and juicy for me realistically.

His Horizon is probably of interest also, that's going to auction too so I gave it a quick wash and hoover, it's a 1500 automatic with power steering and only 33000 miles, it's not my bag if I'm honest but it's a nice enough old thing.

ETA - owner should definitely be on here. I was behind him in the supermarket queue. He:
    1. Wore a lot of brown;
    2. Bought almost exclusively tinned food; and
    3. Paid in cash, down to the correct pennies.

I've dredged my memory banks but I have no strong recollections of any back when they were new or a few years old, other than seeing loads of them get banger raced in the '90s (I'm sure one was only 4-5 years old). I picked up the odd brochure at country shows, but I think unless you happened to live close to one of those small, independent, family-run dealerships that gave good service to local folk then they were a fairly rare sight.
I believe there was a place that sold them in the next village from me, but it was redeveloped before I moved here. Does make me wonder if there's still one or two sat forgotten locally.
I don't remember seeing it, but I believe an elderly uncle traded-in his late Farina Wolseley for one in the early-mid '80s. That's what intrigues me, wondering what delights the garages took in against them.
By the time I started taking photos in the digital age the  pre-Caro models had pretty much disappeared, so these are all I have on Flickr:

A couple in Medler's in 1996. I bet there were far more, I was just concentrating on finding Japanese obscurities.

This one on a local E-reg had apparently come off the road in 2001, I saw it at a place that had a few interesting things back in 2012. It's still on SORN and I did see some more recent photos but I don't know if it's still there now.

Exeter postcard from the early '90s.

Is this still down at the Atwell-Wilson museum? Was only on the road for four years....

I've joined 👍. Interesting to hear it sold complete a few days after being brought to the yard - apparently the new owner lives in West Cornwall and hopes to restore it! 😳
I did find these photos of it in Newquay a few years back when still clean and in use. Still think it's a real shame it was left to rot for so long.

So, here it is in September 2022:

And here it is, a few days back at a local, smallish breakers yard. I half toyed with the idea of buying the speedo and turning it into a clock for the garage. I can't really justify the £25 the fella is asking though.
    RIP.

    Onwards....

Back in Switzerland. Don't remember seeing many 850s during the whole trip.

Pontiac LeMans Sport hiding up the side of a garage.

Exhaust looked a little perilous, dog appeared to be rather bored with it all. Wrong jazzy colour for Miss SL, her ideal RAV4 is apparently more of a blue.

These all at the same place.

'90s Japanese cars seemed to be popular in Switzerland, saw a few others. Master SL got this shot as we did a bonus lap of a roundabout - wonder what my mileage and journey times would be if it weren't for doing that sort of thing?

The black Traction Avant theme continued in Switzerland.
Best garage haul of the fortnight?.........

Another 300ZX here, plus the Chevy and Sunny(s).

Justy, cool. But hang on, what's that in the background?....

Blimey! Certainly hadn't expected to see a Datsun Violet (not sure if it was a 140 or 160J). Brings back fond memories of the SSS version I had in the '90s, I always found the grille/headlamp arrangement particularly pleasing. Seemed to be an older 100A lurking behind it as well.

    Daimler FTP!
For the second time this crusty old dame has  failed to proceed. Ive been getting used to its little quirks, including that you need to manually prime the mechanical fuel pump if you leave it a few days.
This i did this evening, and i noticed no sounds or change in resistance to the pumping that told me the fuel was not the right place. I wondered, had e10 ruined the diaphragm in the pump? had it dissolved something critical elsewhere? it was far simpler than that.
I wondered if it was because the car was parked on a slight angle where the fuel pick up pipes (on the near side) were sucking from the lowest fuel level. I decided to risk beaching it in a worse place by rolling it downhill and doing a quick about turn to leave the car angled with the pick up pipes in the deepest bit of the tank level (the downhill side, if you follow me)
Anyway, i got back under the bonnet and after a few pumps, i could hear the fuel getting into the float chambers again. Phew!
I went straight to a petrol station! This is wast happened last time. Must fix the fuel gauge! The trouble is its so much fun to drive so i use the fuel up.
“Failing to proceed” would for sure be how daimler would have phrased it in their period clipped Queen’s english

Hi guys, its me. I pressed the nuclear button a few days ago, Its got nothing to to with any posts on this thread, but for me its a place to share our love of chod, and its a hobby. I aim to have fun, and share in your enjoyment of your cars too. Lifes short, eh?
Whats been going on chez HMC?
The limo collection has been arranged by the buyer. I wont say any more but its going to be an epic road trip!
    The mexican beetle.

Its got actual patina (aka knackered paint, damage , etc) but i felt immediately that the sprayed up duotone steels were trying too hard; so i painted them silver.

After filling up it was smelling very fuelly. I found out the petrol rank sender wasnt sealed properly so i got out the blue hylomar and that sorted it.
And the front plate had to go….

    To celebrate i went for a drive….

Ok, when I decided to start this thread, I told myself I`d update it at least weekly, have I? Nope.. I havent been driving much recently, and I didnt think I`d taken that many, so I left it, & now, I`ve got a fair amount, so I`ll do another photo drop..

Again, a lot of these arent ULEZ compliant & are in the extension.
