I've been helping a mate prep this hunk-a-love for auction.

What a magnificent beast, 1974 Opel Commodore 2.8 GS that was registered new in Bury St Edmunds and spent all its life in the area, straight six with two twin choke carbs and a stainless exhaust it sounds amazing and goes like the clappers!

We've been through it fixing a few small faults and mostly cleaning and polishing it and it now looks stunning. I've got the option of buying it but it's a bit big and juicy for me realistically.

His Horizon is probably of interest also, that's going to auction too so I gave it a quick wash and hoover, it's a 1500 automatic with power steering and only 33000 miles, it's not my bag if I'm honest but it's a nice enough old thing.

I saw the Commodore at EAMA a couple of weeks ago (and last year when they had it in as well), love it. Hope you don't mind me asking but did your mate buy it and not like it? Would he consider selling it or is it definitely going through auction again?

Opel Senator A 3.0 CD

    Picture 6 of 12

Bidding up to £2650. No mention of an MOT so I'm assuming there is still work to do on it.

My Dad's old senator, he owned it during 2013. Would love to buy it back but that's considerably more than the £500 my Dad paid, plus we discovered it had been used for some burnout action before he got hold of it! I really loved the green velour interior :-)

I had a day of mixed emotions on Friday, I sold my Dolomite to a farmer for close to the asking price

I dropped it back to my dad's barn for the new buyer to collect it and to bring my Astra home

I was cruising down the A12 where I lost all its drive just as I passing Colchester and broke down on the side of the busy road.

Where I ended up having to call Essex police for a road closure and a tow behind a BMW 550 to a BP garage.

Thankfully dad turned up with some tools and a tow pole where we found the spring for the points had snapped and he had to tow me home, I've now ordered a few ignition set up for about £15 so should be back on the road again.

I'm now not sure if I should spend some money and get the car professionally painted on both sides to really smarten it up or just buy something else, trouble is everything is so bloody expensive at the moment, cars I was paying £2000 for a couple of years ago are now £7000+.

I was bidding on this 8000 mile Ital which was the car that made me want to sell the Dolly in the first place and that sold for £7000 in auction :(

Love the Astra, sorry to hear that it broke down but good it's nothing major. I was watching that Ital and thought it finished on Thursday at £4500, did the bidding get extended or something? I tried to place a bid within the last couple of minutes but their site went down.

  4. I better put this up for sale before I change my mind.

More on this car here: http://autoshite.com/topic/33660-1980-talbot-solara-16-gls/

    and here: http://autoshite.com/topic/25384-talbot-solara-gls/

    Good points:

*Very rare - only roadworthy 1.6 GLS left in the UK according to howmanyleft and 1 of about a dozen Solara's remaining.

*Lots of new parts: plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, fuel pump, fuel filter, etc.

*Oil & filter change done last week.

*MOT'd until August 2019 so can be driven.

*Nice reg with original raised rivet number plates.

*Complete and original apart from exhaust.

*Comes with some paperwork, old booklets, and many keys.

*Starts every time and goes really well if you want it to.

    Bad points:

*Running issue: intermittent spluttering at low revs/light throttle and sometimes stalls when coming to a stop as the revs can drop below idle, still not sure what is causing this.

*Tatty appearance all over with rust, mismatched paint and filler in places but completely solid underneath, a real survivor car.

*Passenger controls for electric front window does not work, but ones on the driver's side do. Also, passenger rear door doesn't open, handle seems to be stuck.

*Lets in water somewhere at the front, luckily this collects on the shelf below the glovebox after a heavy downpour so doesn't get to soak the carpets or anything.

*Has an aftermarket backbox so might be loud to some although I quite like the sound.

Didn't really want to sell this but at least one of my cars has to go due to a lack of space/money and this isn't being used much now because of the running issue.

I would like £1000 but if you want to make me an offer, feel free and I'll consider it.

I'll most likely be listing it elsewhere so might sell at any time.

    PM me for any questions/offers.

    I'm in Norwich, Norfolk.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  5. Okay so I looked at the slow running/idle jets again today and also the 2 emulsion tubes in the carb to make sure they were properly clear using carb cleaner and then blowing them through. I put it back together and went for a run in it afterwards but it's still spluttering unfortunately. I've spoken to a knowledgeable Talbot enthusiast who owns a Solara which is ironically suffering from the exact same issue at the moment and he is also unsure as to what to try next. My parents don't share the same love for it as I do and are sick of seeing it stuck on the driveway so I'm probably going to put it up for sale to see if anyone wants to take this on, I'll put up a separate for sale post.

  6. Did an oil change on her the other day, bloody freezing outside but I booked the day off work and it needed one... hoping to look at the carb again soon and fingers crossed it's just the case of the jets/tubes being blocked up causing the splutteriness. One thing I thought was odd is the drain bolt which is unlike other cars I've had, hex shape cutout (inside a cicle) instead of it being the head, so it involved buying some specific hex bit sockets.

  7. Disappointed to see this for sale over on FB.  Are you throwing the towel in because of the idle issue?  Perhaps just chucking it at an experienced grease monkey would be better than walking away??

Just a thought.  Good luck whatever you do.

Thanks, there's someone I know who would be happy to look at it so I may well do that. It's a combination of a couple of things really, somehow I've ended up with 3 cars so now haven't got the space, also funds are a bit short so one of them needs to go. Out of the 3, this is the one I would like to keep most so hopefully I'll be able to hang on to it. I'm having second thoughts already so will probably withdraw the post shortly!

  8. Also, I may have to put this up for sale soon as I've got 3 cars and nowhere to put them! It's not nice seeing this sat outside either as the rust is only going to get worse until I get around to tidying it up which won't be until the Summer. If anyone's interested, please send me a PM.

  9. Also changed the leads for a new set before doing this but that didn't help. I still doubt it's the coil as it starts every time providing the battery has juice in it. Not sure if I trust myself taking the carb to bits yet  :?

  10. Remove the air cleaner and see if there is a small triangular plate at the front of the carb which is held in place by three countersunk setscrews. If there is, remove this plate which holds a diaphram in place. With the diaphram removed there are two small brass passages at each side. These will be blocked and require blowing through with compressed air or carb cleaner. Carb cleaner with a straw held firmly against the brass opening should do the trick.

These block up regularly and really spoil what is otherwise a great car. I am cleaning mine out at least once a month and some times more frequently. This is a common fault with the 1.6 twin choke carbs.

Bit of a late reply apologies, but I gave this a try and no luck sadly, is this how it's supposed to look?:
