We need to remember that the Mondeo was introduced halfway through the K plate year.

Oh wow, I've done hundreds of deliveries down to the Airbus/GKN site at Filton over the years and seen this many times outside one of the stores.

I'd believe the advert story to be true, it very rarely seemed to move and often looked a bit unloved, but it always looked straight and tidy underneath the dirt. I mentioned to the lads in the stores to give me a shout if they ever found out it was being let go, that went well for me! To be fair I've not worked since November last year so it would be a bit unfair to moan at them.

With full credit to Paul Harbord on Facebook - here are the 2022 numbers for MK2's left by the way...
At least 2144 cars taxed and on the road (there were only 526 mk1's!) LX is most common with 458 variants left taxed Verona TD is the rarest with 1 taxed, Aspen and Aspen TD have 2 each taxed There were 204 Zetec/S's, 192 ST24's, 181 ST200's, 193 Ghia's, 312 Ghia X's taxed There were only 97 Diesel engined cars taxed.

I'd forgotten how colour-coordinated the Mk1 was compared to the Mk2. That pic really does illustrate the superior quality of seat fabric the Mk1 had compared to its successor.
The coin holder was useful in these. Whenever I was fobbed off with some foreign coins I'd ram them into the coin holder and see how low it took before an opportunistic light fingered punter stole them.
Another Warren peculiarity was that I always made sure that I kept a half decent pen in the dedicated pen holder. No half chewed biro for me.
Looking at that hardcore, held open, continental strength interior pic reminds me that if you drop anything like money between the front seat and centre console you should consider it lost forever. You will never see it again regardless of how determined you are. Using that space to slide your A to Z in helped stuff from dropping in there though.

Average wage was a little over £3,600, so probably the real wages equivalent of paying a smidge under £30k. Basically then the equivalent of some flashy nearly-new BMW or Audi coupe thing.

Not quite photographic evidence but here's a classified listing of one from 1991. If you're wondering it was only £2,995, for a then-recent sportscar!

So essentially the Mondeos are all dead because
The reps ragged them up the M1 The cabbies ran them until they died The banger boys finished as many as they could... So the only ones left are the giffer cars that were bought by px-ing a 3 year old Sierra...

The entire reputation for anyone who rents out cars as taxis is based on the ability of keeping the driver on the road. Taxi insurance was, and indeed still is, pretty much stuck in the 1980s. This means that there's no fucking way I could keep one car on my fleet purely to use as an emergency breakdown courtesy car. Even if I could have kept a car insured for any driver local council rules would mean me sending the details to whatever firm the driver worked for and car details can only be changed during office hours. That's not to say that some strokes weren't pulled. I had a driver with a Panther Black Mk2 1.8LX that snapped its key in the ignition barrel one Friday night meaning that both the reg and taxi plates "may" have found their way onto a Panther Black 1.8LX diesel that had just been handed back to me as a way of keeping him on the road that weekend.

When I first started we had a driver with a 2.0 twin cam Sierra Ghia that worked faultlessly with one exception. It would cut out for 15 minutes after a continuous 80 mile drive. Ford Master Technicians tried and failed to get to the bottom of the problem. This meant that the driver could only take on a Manchester Airport run from certain parts of our catchment area.
Another Sierra twin cam owner was a retired Merseyside Police traffic officer with an immaculate Ghia estate in metallic burgundy. One night a few of us were sat in the office grilling him about high speed chases. After a couple of tales about chasing Mk2 RS2000s he started talking about chasing bikers. He said that the 24v Senator would keep up with most bikes on the M53 to the great surprise of the rider. He told the tale of one lad on a GSXR750 who when discovering that he didn't have the straight line speed to outrun the 24v Vauxhall pulled over onto the hard shoulder and then fucked off using full bore acceleration. He said that even today "I'd strangle that cheeky bugger if I ever got my hands on him". I didn't have the heart to tell him "that cheeky bugger" was me.

Eight years ago today this turd landed at mine. Tomorrow I will apply for historic tax and, judging by the complete lack of progress on the Mini, proceed to use it over the next few months.

Both the other cars in this photo since sold and scrapped, the house SSTC and and my lovely friend Emma has moved onto a better place. Then again she lived in Hemel, so a move to Strangeways would have been a positive move.
    Happy bASe day, fellow motorist.

After a selection of modified Minis and Mk1 Fiestas, my first proper car, acquired in the mid 90s, was a Mk2 Astra estate. I had a year out between college and university and spent a bit of spare time working for a local minicab company. Their most professional* driver dissed my 1.3 spec Astra and presented his 250k mile Sierra 2.0i Ghia, which he claimed was the best minicab car on the grounds of cost, comfort and reliability. I packed in my short minicab driver career within a few months and soon after I acquired my first Sierra, a 1.6L hatchback. I loved it and now I dream of using that Sierra to further my minicab driver career.

Picked this up locally from the partner of my wife's friend.
It's a Mitsubishi ASX, and I must confess, I had no idea what one of those was when I agreed to go and take a look at it.
Clearly it was aimed at the sector of the market occupied by the Qashqai

This one comes with free bollard action:

    Looks reasonably smart from here.

The interior is grubby, and the carpet is worn, I will give it a good once over and treat it to some decent floor mats.

I've given the scratches a bit of a polish and they are still there unsurprisingly.

Boot lid is grufty,  apparently a common issue with these.

So far I've put 3 tyres on it, stripped all the brakes and fitted new pads all round - typical japanese stuff with sticky sliders and those shitty little shims that are an arsehole to get back in.
